Ten-step Guide Aims to Empower Youth to Become Centered, Responsible and Self-Aware

As a crime and violence prevention specialist, Stephanie L. Mann is not new to seeing violence in neighborhoods, road rage, domestic abuse and child abuse. She relates that families in crisis are a huge problem because many children are not learning how to live by their instincts, intuition and developing their own conscience which can protect them.

Realizing a critical need to help strengthen families when children are young and vulnerable, Mann developed "Empowerment Parenting" (published by Xlibris), a 10-step guidebook for parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches and educators, to empower youth to become centered, responsible and self-aware. "The key is self-awareness, which leads to self-discipline, self-control, and self-esteem," says Mann, "No matter what chaos has occurred in their lives, youth can succeed if they develop the three C's: courage, character and conscience. When youth have the emotional tools to avoid anger and temptations, they grow strong from within and less likely to go down a self-destructive path."

Ultimately, Mann encourages readers to be part of a community where children can feel safe, respected and protected.

About the Author
Stephanie Mann volunteered in her unincorporated community with 17,500 residents because the community had a crime wave. The majority of crime problems were neighborhood kids. A committee of 10 volunteers got local publicity, educated neighbors to take responsibility for neighborhood safety and reduced crime by 48 percent within two and half years without a local police department. (Documented) With the help of Governor Reagan's wife, Nancy Reagan, Mann, co-authored "Alternative to Fear: Guidelines for Safer Neighborhoods," which helped launch the national Neighborhood Watch Program or the Neighborhood Responsibility Program.
