GSW Certifies Telnet Server and GSW ConnectBot Android Client on Archer 3 Rugged Handheld Barcode Scanner

Georgia SoftWorks (GSW) successfully tested their GSW ConnectBot for Android and GSW Universal Terminal System (UTS for Windows) using a Juniper Systems Archer 3; a ruggedized handheld barcode scanner that offers reliable performance in harsh environments.

The Georgia SoftWorks certification testing consisted of installing the GSW ConnectBot Android Client and setting up a telnet connection to the UTS server. The GSW Lab ran test applications over a period of time to establish confidence that the connections remained stable. They set up an SSH2 connection to the UTS and performed stress testing. They disconnected and reconnected multiple times to ensure consistency. Finally, the GSW Lab tested the GSW ConnectBot for Android features, including their new Licensing and Deployment Server.

"The GSW LADS (Licensing and Deployment Server) allows you to manage your licensing, upload and download configurations from devices, upload screenshots to the server for technical assistance, as well as manage updates to the software" explained Steve Lindsey of Georgia SoftWorks. Trident University Health Sciences Professor Publishes Articles on Reproductive Injustice

Dr. Leandra Hernández, instructor in Trident University International's (Trident) College of Health and Human Services, has published articles in the journals Women's Studies in Communication and Health Communication.

"Feminist Approaches to Border Studies and Gender Violence: Family Separation as Reproductive Injustice" appears in the latest issue of Women's Studies in Communication. In this article, Dr. Hernández examines the physical, mental, and social impacts of family separation at the United States-Mexico border through an interdisciplinary blending of feminist and border theories.

Dr. Hernández, along with Dr. Sarah De Los Santos Upton, also published the article, "Insider/Outsiders, Reproductive (In)justice, and the U.S.-Mexico Border," in the journal Health Communication. This articles seeks to build a stronger coalition between health communication scholars and Latina/o communication scholars in addressing reproductive injustice and gendered violence. Dr. Hernández is an instructor for the courses Health Communication & Advocacy, Cross-Cultural Health Perspectives, and Cultural Diversity in Health Sciences. Early this year, she served as co-editor and an author on the book volume, Military Spouses With Advanced Degrees: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Thriving Amidst Uncertainty, through Lexington Press.

Local Toy Stores Pick the Best Toys Via ASTRA’s 2019 Best Toys for Kids Awards

The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) unveiled it's 2019 Best Toys for Kids Awards at the ASTRA Marketplace & Academy earlier this month in Pittsburgh, PA.

As the only program of its kind, the "Best Toys for Kids" award program is intended to heighten consumer awareness of the value of creative, open-ended play and the role that independent, locally owned toy stores play in providing children quality playthings that promote happy, healthy, and productive childhoods.

"This is an opportunity for ASTRA manufacturers in the community to submit their products - unpaid - and then have those products reviewed by retailers who have their feet on the floor, know moms and dads, watch kids and how kids interact with products, and who have a substantial understanding of how play is crucial to child development," said Kim Mosley, President of ASTRA. "They rely on their expertise to review the submitted toys, and then proceed to pick the best products for the year!"

New Immersion Active Survey Examines how 55+ Homebuyers Find their Dream Home

Often times baby boomers are associated with a lack of technology prowess. However, as individuals increasingly rely on the internet and social media to collect information and make buying decisions, so have baby boomers. To help community developers and builders better understand how baby boomers' research their next home, Immersion Active, a leading marketing solutions agency specializing in connecting consumers with brands that bring value to their lives, conducted an online survey of 55+ homebuyers and released the findings in a white paper titled "The Online Preferences of 55+ Homebuyers: The Vital Role of Your Digital Footprint."

The survey, conducted on Facebook from August through October 2018, targeted men and women who have already retired or plan on retiring within the next 20 years. "Feminist Approaches to Border Studies and Gender Violence: Family Separation as Reproductive Injustice" appears in the latest issue of Women's Studies in Communication. In this article, Dr. Hernández examines the physical, mental, and social impacts of family separation at the United States-Mexico border through an interdisciplinary blending of feminist and border theories. Some great videos are the result of meticulous planning and coordination between the artist and the director. Others owe their existence to serendipity and are none the worse for it. The soulful, Los Angeles based group Terry Light didn't hire independent filmmaker Kailee McGee to shoot a clip for "Lately," their debut single – and that's because they didn't have to. She fell in love with the music (you will, too), and gave it a home in her film The Person I Am When No One Is Looking. In so doing, she's deepened the meaning of Light's song, highlighted its intensity, and foregrounded its indisputable cinematic qualities. No director could have done any more – or any better.

As an acknowledgment of this accidental masterstroke, Light is releasing the last four minutes of The Person I Am When No One Is Looking – the part of the film that's scored by the song – and calling that a finished video. While it's apparent that it's part of a bigger story, you won't see a clip in 2019 that looks sharper, or feels any more emotionally forthright or relevant to the moment, or suits the music any better than this one. McGee's passion for the song is unmistakable, and the dance she performs on the streets of Los Angeles demonstrates a deep understanding of the music that goes well beyond words.

We don't want to oversell the unlikeliness of this partnership. Light and McGee are friends, as is Mark Hadley, who scored The Person I Am When No One Is Looking and produced "Lately." These artists are all part of the same circle of creative thinkers in Los Angeles, and they're motivated by similar aesthetic impulses: they're kicking back at modern alienation, examining the world we've created with modern technology, and attempting to forge human connections in a difficult environment for collective action.

That desire is at the heart of The Person I Am When No One Is Looking, which is part of the award-winning Omeleto series of short films. The film – and by extension, the video portion for "Lately" – presents Highland Park in Los Angeles as a gorgeous but slightly surreal landscape, populated by beautiful people driven by an unquenchable desire for attention and obsession with follower count. McGee's character is both a victim and a perpetrator, and aggression and vulnerability are both visible in her astonishing street choreography. The result is a dance video that doubles as a powerful narrative, and a teaser for two dynamic works of art: both McGee's film and Terry Light's eclectic, heartfelt series of songs.
