GoPro Fusion Will Soon Let Anyone Publish Google Street View

Panoskin, a Chicago based technology company specializing in virtual tour creation, launched a GoPro Fusion into the stratosphere, via weather balloon, from the Adler Planetarium on Wednesday, November 14. This is the first Google Street View tour created in the stratosphere for anyone to explore on Google Maps.

The Adler Planetarium Far Horizons program along with Hawken Orbital were glad to offer their years of experience for this mission.

"We have launched more than 125 stratospheric balloon missions over the past 12 years, engaging hundreds of students and volunteers in hands on space exploration," said Ken Walczak, Senior Manager for Far Horizons at the Adler Planetarium.

The GoPro Fusion, which captures video and photos in 360, reached 86,000 feet and traveled more than 70 miles across Lake Michigan before landing in a cornfield in Berrien Center, Michigan.

The content was retrieved and loaded into Panoskin to create the first Street View tour in space, and added to the Adler Planetarium Google Business Listing and Panoskin Platform.

Later this year, Panoskin in collaboration with GoPro and Google Maps will be releasing a new platform which will allow anyone with a GoPro Fusion to publish to Google Street View with an easy work flow.

"Capturing Google Street View goes well beyond the streets," said Tom Chomiak, CTO and Co-Founder of Panoskin. "Our users have published over 1.4 million scenes to maps that break that mold. Creating the first Street View tour into the stratosphere exemplifies just that. Not long from now, anyone with a GoPro Fusion will be able to easily publish Street View. Every business in the world can benefit from updated Street View imagery, and Panoskin will make it possible for every photographer to add this service to their offerings."
