Cleveland's own light heavyweight champion Ron "The American Dream" Johnson has been a boxing fan all of his life. His uncle Ronald, whom he was named after, was a professional fighter and died in the ring before Ron was born. In his first match he scored a fourth round TKO. He went on to win nine more consecutive fights. In 2006 Ron Johnson became a free agent and signed a five year, seven figure deal with a Houston based management firm called Kennyboy. Boxing Legend Oscar De La Hoya and legendary promoter Don King, offered to sign him, and both offered substantial amounts of money, but Ron was happy with Kennyboy Management Company. Shortly thereafter, Ron had an opportunity to sign a multi-year deal with promoter Murad Muhammad, who promoted Roy Jones Jr. and Evander Holyfield. This deal was worth millions to Ron Johnson, but he wasn't sure if it was the right career move for him as he wanted to take control of his own career. Once he made his decision, he quickly enlisted help from a friend and set out to gain control by finding investors for his next fight. After investors saw him fight and witnessed a third round knockout against Aaron Norwood, they promptly provid capital to promote his next fight. “Relationship ADHD”: Have We Lost the Instinct for Commitment?

Relationships have always been complicated. It takes time and effort to develop trust and intimacy and the deep love that sustains a couple over many years and through the rough patches. It takes sacrifice and compromise and putting another person's wants and needs ahead of your own. These are timeless truths. Yet it seems that the ways in which relationships develop – or fail to develop – have changed. Psychiatrist Dr. Alex Dimitriu observes that his dating clients find that prospective partners come and go before either person has even had a chance to evaluate the potential for a lasting relationship. "What's going on?" he asks. "Do we have 'relationship attention deficit disorder'? Have our lives become so fragmented and our attention so distracted that we can no longer focus long enough to form a strong bond with a potential life partner?"

It would appear that that is indeed often the case. Life moves fast. We expect everything to be easy, every need to be instantly gratified, often without human interaction. Dinner is delivered to our door. Directions are spoken into our ears. Alexa answers every question. The thrill is in the new – in the chase – and when the excitement wears off or when one party opens up and shows some vulnerability, it's easier to tell yourself that you're bored or that "things are getting too intense" and run away than to open up and really get to know someone on a deeper level. Dr. Dimitriu notes that one of the most important ways in which the dating game has changed is that the age-old assumption that dating is a prelude to a committed relationship no longer holds, or at least not for everybody. "There is often a mismatch of intentions," he says, "when only one party views dating as the means to finding a life partner and the other just wants to hang out, hook up, and move on – to live just for the moment, not for the future." A 2016 study* found that as many as one-third of unmarried serious relationships are "asymmetrically committed," that is, one partner is completely devoted and oriented toward a long-term future and the other is enjoying the convenience of the relationship but is not invested in or committed to it. "Many of these relationships break up," says Dr. Dimitriu, "with all the attendant conflict and heartbreak. While the relationship may have been serious, it was hardly happy."

"The elephant in the room is technology," says Dr. Dimitriu. "It is in every aspect of our lives, especially our social lives. Our social media selves – what we choose to show and tell the world – become more real than our true selves." What we truly want and need is sublimated to the superficial projection of a life that doesn't really exist. The same is true of projecting an image of a perfect relationship while losing sight of the reality of two flesh-and-blood people who can't possibly live up to that image. "And when our primary means of communication is the text message – with anxiety and resentment surfacing when responses aren't instantaneous – there's little opportunity for real understanding and empathy."

Given this environment, how are we to manage our dating lives? How do we develop relationships that strengthen and deepen over time, that don't fall apart at the first sign of trouble? Dr. Dimitriu offers some suggestions:

"I don't mean to imply that technology is at the root of all relationship problems," says Dr. Dimitriu, "but there is some irony in the fact that a communication device may be the very thing that is getting in the way of meaningful communication. And the only route to a lasting relationship is through meaningful communication. When you meet someone new, do you let them know that you hope to build a lasting relationship? Or, for fear of frightening them off, do you play along with the casual sex and good times in the hope that something deeper will develop? There is no right answer but as in everything, honesty is the best policy. In this or any other time, the only way to avoid 'relationship ADHD' is through open and honest communication."

"We are overwhelmed by such a large number of participants and are very pleased with the outstanding quality and unique visual language of the entries," said Philipp Mühlbauer, Managing Director of Picanova.

The first, second and third place winners received prizes worth 10,000, 6,000 and 4,000 Euros respectively, half of which can be redeemed at Foto Koch photo shop in Düsseldorf and half at picanova.de. In addition, the winners will receive their own picture sized at 120x80cm as an Alu-Dibond photo print as well as strategic support in setting up their Photo.Club web shop for selling their own motifs. The winners were not the only ones who benefited though. Prizes worth 500,000 Euros were awarded to participants.

The three main winners live for photography

Laura Zalenga from Munich studied architecture and has been an independent portrait artist since 2014. She impressed the jury with her winning picture "Lean on me" (taken with a Sony α7R II). The photo is part of a project where the artist reinterprets existing pictures from her portfolio. "I am very happy about the first place and the attention my photo gets from the exhibition at photokina. This is a great opportunity to make my photography even better known," says Zalenga.

Second-placed Michael Jaster from Düsseldorf has been closely associated with photography since 1975. His photo "Rosa Flamingo" was taken during a holiday stay on Fuerteventura with a Nikon D800/70-200. "We were in a beautiful park and were surprised by passing flamingos. Sometimes you need a little luck with the motives!"

Carsten Schröder, who finished third with his photo, has been taking pictures since his early childhood and has already received numerous awards for his work. This specific piece "Firefighter" taken with a Fuji X-T2, was produced during a workshop at Saarbrücken Airport. "The photo was taken during the blue hour. It shows a panther of the airport fire brigade "throwing the water cannon at the right moment."

American IRA Addresses Can Investors “Supercharge” Their Savings with a Self-Directed IRA?

Opening a Self-Directed IRA account can be a great way to save for retirement, notes a recent article at American IRA. The Self-Directed IRA administration firm recently explained on its blog that while it is not difficult to open a Self-Directed IRA account, that does not necessarily mean retirement investors will realize its full potential. To do that, the article notes, putting in the maximum funding possible could supercharge savings, allowing investors to watch tax-free or tax-deferred growth as their savings grow. "No one has a crystal ball," notes the post. But according to popular thought, retirements often require putting away some 15 to 20% of savings, in addition to any income that may be expected from Social Security or even pensions. Many retirement investors set target nest eggs of $750,000 to $1 million due to this need for funding during retirement.

The Self-Directed IRA might be able to "supercharge" savings thanks to the tax protections. The key, writes American IRA, is that those who start off young can realize substantial returns due to compound interest. Read latest news here.

Limits on contributions might be another issue for investors. "You are not limited to that $5,500 per year ceiling on Self-Directed IRA contributions," notes the article. For example, a married couple can put away another $5,500 toward retirement, even if the spouse does not earn an income. That puts the contribution limit of a Self-Directed Roth IRA up to $11,000 in such cases, helping investors supercharge their savings any more.

The article went on to explore a number of ways investors can realize the full benefits of a Self-Directed IRA, noting the need to act aggressively to save for retirement. The post also pointed out how combining Self-Directed IRAs and small business retirement plans can allow self-employed people to boost savings with high contribution limits.

Lion Brand Yarn Company Inundated With Donated Hats for its Hat Not Hate Anti-Bullying Campaign

It started with a trickle. Seven lovingly hand-made hats were delivered to Lion Brand Yarn Company's warehouse in Carlstadt, New Jersey a few days after the company launched a campaign to demonstrate its support of anti-bullying called Hat Not Hate. A few weeks later, boxes of donated hand-made hats started arriving from all over the world, from as far away as Benghazi, Libya. As the days passed, the trickle became an avalanche.

Lion Brand Yarn Company asked its community, through social media and email, to use their knit and crochet skills to help bring awareness to the devastating problem of bullying by making blue hats to wear in October, the official anti-bullying awareness month. The campaign's hashtag on social media is #HatNotHate. Read this for more information.

Lion Brand also asked for donations of hand-made hats to outfit one school of 1,500 students in New Rochelle, New York so the entire school could demonstrate their support of the cause on October 1, which is World Day of Bullying Prevention™, an initiative of STOMP Out Bullying.

Within a few weeks, the boxes started being delivered in larger and larger quantities. A few days after the first seven hats came 22, then 50, and soon the boxes of hats had to be delivered in large mail carts at a rate of hundreds in a day. Some boxes contained one handmade hat wrapped in tissue paper with a personal note, and some contained as many as 60 hats contributed by a guild or religious group who worked together on the project. As of today, the company has received well over 2,500 hats.

Many personal notes accompanied the donated hats saying why supporting the Hat Not Hate cause meant so much to the person who made the hat.

NJA and its Cape May Bird Observatory are also taking over Cape May Convention Hall, where everyone is invited to visit a variety of vendors with a natural twist, and for the first time ever, Nature Nick's Animal Adventures, the most diverse collection of travelling exotic animals in the world. He'll be bringing birds of prey, an armadillo, an alligator, snakes, and maybe even a flamingo. You'll just have to come and see for yourself, because it's free!

For weekend festival registrants, fees of $69 per day or $185 for three days unlock a wide variety of events open to registrants only. You will have to choose from 31 birding walks to famous Cape May locations led by local experts; 11 small group exclusive opportunities, either aboard a trolley, or in a small group walk, all led by some of the most famous names in US birding; 19 indoor programs by experts in the field from bird identification, eco-travel, research and monitoring, and more; 9 boat trips into the marshes; and our fun and informative Hawk ID and Seabird ID Master Classes for a more intensive learning experience. The Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community is an area containing more than 100 Appalachian artist and craftsmen along an eight-mile loop on the eastern edge of Gatlinburg, Tenn. Visitors are often greeted by the artists who will take the time to chat and discuss the history of their craft.

The largest independent organization of artisans in the United States, the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community features carvers, weavers, watercolor artists, casters, soap makers, potters, silversmiths and dozens of other artisans skillfully demonstrate their abilities before thousands of visitors.
