Janet Pribanic to Release New Blog for Social Media Users

Avid social media users will soon be able to take advantage of a new social-media-focused public relations blog by industry aficionado Janet Pribanic. The blog will focus on helping users to protect themselves both personally and professionally while using today's most popular social medial platforms.

Version 1.0 of the blog, located at http://www.janetpribanic.com/, will be released in early November following a beta test. The purpose of the blog is to examine and investigate the many missteps that people make on social media, many of which cost them their personal lives and their careers. According to Pribanic, a public relations student at New York University, even a seemingly small mistake can be an expensive one, which is what motivated Pribanic to start the blog.

Pribanic said that people often forget that when they use social medial platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, they are generating personal brand messages that can either make them or break them. A single off-color remark or an offense statement that is posted spontaneously can ruin a person's online reputation and subsequently his or her offline life in an instant. What's worse, according to Pribanic, is that any indecent comment made on social media will exist in cyberspace forever.

Other mistakes that people make when using social media include failing to maintain a consistent image, not producing diverse content, and failing to give back to worthwhile causes. In addition, some individuals or organizations mismanage social media crises, ignore issues, are not genuine, or fail to improve or address negative feedback. Still other social media mistakes include not engaging one's audience and the failure to issue an appropriate apology when needed.

Through Pribanic's blog, readers can learn how to avoid these mistakes, but they will also gain tools for crafting and building their virtual images effectively. Pribanic's ultimate goal is to help readers to attract online attention for all of the right reasons.
