Deloitte Selected by The Institutes RiskBlock™ Alliance to Accelerate Blockchain Application Development and Expansion into Canada

The Institutes RiskBlock™ Alliance, a blockchain consortium representing 31 risk management and insurance companies, announced today that it has selected global professional-services organization Deloitte to help advance its blockchain application and product-development efforts. Deloitte will leverage its industry-leading digital capabilities to help the RiskBlock Alliance implement and test multiple products that will be brought to market by the end of 2018.

Deloitte will also help the RiskBlock Alliance expand the consortium into Canada, the first piece of a planned international expansion. Over the next few months, and with Deloitte's strategic support, the RiskBlock Alliance will establish a legal entity in Canada and begin working with Canadian-based property-casualty and life/annuity insurers. The expansion will help the RiskBlock Alliance deliver scalable blockchain solutions across the global insurance industry.

Under this engagement, Deloitte will be responsible for the methodology, prioritization and development of a number of blockchain applications for RiskBlock Alliance members. The applications will address different aspects of the insurance transaction life cycle, ranging from underwriting to claims processing. Each new app will be provided via Canopy, the industry's first end-to-end reusable blockchain framework, and will focus on enhancing efficiency and lowering transaction costs for the benefit of policyholders. Canopy is being built exclusively for the RiskBlock Alliance on R3's Corda platform.

VetStem Biopharma is Pleased to Announce that Dr. Andreana Lim of McGrath Veterinary Center is Now Offering VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy

Dr. Andreana Lim became credentialed to perform VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy in November 2017. Her first patient was a canine with arthritis in his knees and hips. He was initially treated with VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy in July 2010 at a veterinary hospital in Hawaii. His owners recently relocated to California and sought another stem cell treatment with Dr. Lim of McGrath Veterinary Center.

As a courtesy, and because it was Dr. Lim's first stem cell treatment, VetStem organized to have an experienced stem cell provider, Dr. Jerrold Bausman, assist Dr. Lim with the procedure. Pulling from over ten years of experience utilizing VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy, Dr. Basuman provided direction and problem-solving tips to help with joint injections, giving Dr. Lim added confidence to perform future stem cell treatments unassisted. Shortly after the procedure, Dr. Bausman reported that it went great and that Dr. Lim is a pro.

At the time of the treatment, Dr. Lim's patient had several therapeutic stem cell doses banked from his initial fat collection in 2010. Thus, she was able to simply request the doses and her patient did not have to undergo an additional fat collection procedure. Dr. Lim injected the dog's own stem cells into both of his knees as well as both hips. Approximately 50 days after his stem cell therapy, Dr. Lim reported that his owners noticed almost immediate improvement. His activity level had increased, he was less stiff, and he was able to take longer walks.

VetStem has provided training to perform VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy for nearly 5,000 veterinarians across the United States and Canada, allowing for continued treatments to occur even if pet owners relocate.     Americans Are More Comfortable Sharing their Healthcare Experiences Online

    Today, social media platforms are being used to discuss and share all elements of a person's life, which now includes healthcare experiences. The survey results showed that consumers have become increasingly comfortable with sharing their personal healthcare experiences online. In particular, millennial consumers between the ages of 18-34 are the most active over social media and are the most inclined to share their healthcare experiences online.

    The survey finds that Facebook is the most used channel to share healthcare experiences for ages 25-54. However, unlike last year, consumers between the ages of 18-24 say Google is their preferred online platform to share their healthcare experiences. In 2017, survey respondents between the ages of 18-24 selected Twitter as their most used channel to share healthcare experiences.

    Growing Dependence on Online Ratings and Review Sites

    The survey shows that healthcare consumers continue to depend on online ratings and review sites. More and more, consumers are seeking online healthcare advice and relying on unfiltered, transparent patient feedback to determine whether a healthcare practitioner or practice is worth a visit. The below survey results reflect the true impact that online ratings and review sites have on consumers, as well as, the continued rise in healthcare consumerism.

    Of the respondents that utilized websites/platforms to choose a physician, 34 percent selected hospital and/or clinic's website as a primary source, followed by Google (29 percent), WebMD (18 percent), Healthgrades (15 percent) and Facebook (12 percent).

    Expectations Remain High for Patient Care

    Patients today have high expectations for customer service and bedside manner. The survey examined, through multiple-answer questions, what factors matter most to patients when rating or evaluating a physician. The survey results revealed:
