Sunrise Hitek Introduces Laser Cut Wedding Invitations & Cards

Sunrise Hitek is a digital printer with sophisticated computerized cutters. What that means for the customer is a quick turnaround with a fully customized design on their invitation or card. Since every project is digital, it means no expensive setup costs or delays. They can cut very detailed designs with a laser, or simple die cut jobs with our router that cuts with blade. With an all digital workflow they don't simply offer the same designs that many competitors use to save cost. Clients looking for a unique design that matches a particular vision, then cookie cutter templates simply won't cut it, pun intended.

For the most highly detailed projects, Sunrise employs the use of a laser-cutter. This would be used for an intricate design with lots of small cutouts, like lace for a wedding invitation. The laser can precisely cut a design that would be too detailed and costly to do with a custom die.

The second process they use is a CNC-knife cut. This technique is perfect for projects that have larger cutouts in the design or a simpler design. A simple card can easily be made memorable with a simple cut-out. Another great option is to cut the entire piece into a custom shape such as a circle, or even a wine bottle!

With artwork on one layer of the design and a "cut" layer on another layer, the design enters Sunrise workflow ready to go. Using their G7 certified shop for the most accurate of colors, they print on one of their digital presses. During printing they add registration marks outside of the design. These marks are read by the cutters to make sure they cut on the exact path as the design. This optical registration step is critical to achieving an extremely tight tolerance.

There are many reasons to choose digital die-cutting over the traditional method. With typical die cutting, the design is printed on one machine and then cut on a separate machine. If the design was not printed on the exact same place on every sheet that difference is called "bounce". The bounce from sheet to sheet can be significant. An example of this is when text is too close to a border, or the text is crooked on a page or one can see white marks near the corners when it should be a solid color or design. Sunrise eliminates bounce because every sheet has registration marks and all of their cutters use cameras that read each and every sheet; hence no bounce.
