Several years ago, Laurel McHargue could not have told you what a Comic Con was. She had published her first novel and was contemplating a fantasy adventure story when her friend, author Stephanie R. Sorensen, told her about meeting exciting local authors at a Denver Comic Con.
"One of the authors she loved was best-selling author Sherry Ficklin," said McHargue, "and after meeting her myself, I asked her why I should apply for this year's Denver Comic Con. She couldn't say enough about the opportunities to connect with readers and other authors," said McHargue.
After attending the 2018 Denver Comic Con and moderating seven unique author panels, McHargue was hooked.

The focus of MileHiCon is on science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction, and it features authors, artists, speakers, performers and a variety of programming.
"I was honored to receive this year's CIPA EVVY Merit Award in the Juvenile Fiction category for Waterwight Flux, the second book in my Waterwight fantasy adventure trilogy," said McHargue. "I'm working on the final book, Waterwight Breathe, and plan to participate in NaNoWriMo to finish my first draft this year." Read all the latest news.

She plans to share a table at MileHiCon with author friend D.R. Kiss, whose premiere novel "Seeing With Your Eyes Closed" will also be available. What did McHargue enjoy most about her first Con experience? "The best part about literary conferences is meeting people who love to read." She shared her favorite moment from Denver Comic Con this past June. "A woman I didn't even know ran to my table and told me I was one of three authors she was hoping to meet! Everything else that weekend was frosting."
