New Surveys of Parents and Teachers Finds Perception Disconnects on Communication, Engagement

ClassTag, a leading communication app, today released the findings of "Parent's Perspectives", a survey of more than 1,000 parents of current K12 students, as part of the "The State of Teacher - Parent Engagement 2019", a comprehensive report which also surveyed over 1,000 primary educators earlier this year. The latest survey results reveal that parents and teachers have several different, significant views on home to school engagement. Read all the latest news.

According to "Parent Perspectives", 39 percent of parents gave the highest marks in communication to teachers this past school year. The plurality of parents (29%) said the communication was "excellent". Only four percent of all parents gave teachers a score of one of ten.

This contrasts with the results of the Teacher's Perspectives which found that almost half of all teachers (48%) reported that at least a quarter of their students' families were, "hard to reach and engage". The 2018 survey, found similar levels of teacher difficulty in engaging parents and families.

"The findings paint a picture where teachers continue to report significant levels of missing engagement by parents or guardians while parents tend to think their teachers are doing a good job of communicating," said Vlada Lotkina, Co-founder and CEO of ClassTag. "It's clear that both teachers and parents see teachers tossing the ball, but teachers still don't feel that families are catching it," she said.

That difference is especially enlightening considering the survey results on who has the responsibility for learning. According to teachers, parents "thinking that education is a teacher's job, not a teamwork between parents and teachers" was one of the biggest barriers to effective communication between teachers and families. But when asked, nearly three-quarters (73%) of parents said that, "it's a joint responsibility between myself and teachers to ensure my child has a good education." Less than nine percent said, "education is a teacher's job."

A third of teachers also reported that "conflicting parent expectations" in terms of communications channels and frequency are a key roadblock for effective parent communication, while a majority (73%) of parents suggest that they would either "love to customize their communications preferences" or "would likely do so". More info here.

"This is exactly the role of ClassTag which helps to close this gap by giving teachers one easy communication channel while delivering the information in the modality and frequency preferred by the parent, whether it's e-mail, text, app, web or even paper," said Lotkina.

In another apparent misaligned view, parents say what they want most in teacher communication is "pictures and video about a day at school." But in the teacher survey, two-thirds of teachers said the top requests from parents were, "about their child's academics and behaviors" followed by "when things are due."

Other noteworthy findings from the parent survey include:

The "Parent's Perspective" was conducted online and had 1,072 responses from parents in 48 states with children in all types of schools, from early childhood through high school. The results of the first 2019 Teacher's Perspective survey, was released in June. For more information or to download the full report, please visit: http://www.classtag.com/research.

Out Now: Avian Invasion Releases “Carnival of Animals” (Bass Rebels)

Whimsical. Electric. Stirring. Read news here.

Avian Invasion's "Carnival of Animals" is pure delight for electronic dance music (EDM) lovers of all feathers. Instantly grabbing the listener with an accordion riff, the song possesses a ripping bassline and a warm, thick 4/4 beat. The male vocal lead is sung by Avian Invasion himself and the original song demonstrates the artist's skill as a music producer. "Carnival of Animals" pays homage to Avian Invasion's legions of fans – known collectively as "the invasion" – who come out to see him perform at geek culture conventions including those where attendees come dressed as human-sized animals, a practice also known as 'cosplay.' "Carnival of Animals" could easily be plucked from the soundtrack of an animated short, such is its all-ages, electronic music appeal. The rapid-fire synths and gently monstrous bassline on this impossibly catchy song ensure that it lingers in one's head for days.

About Avian Invasion

Avian Invasion (real name: Matthew Ebel) is an American electronic dance music ("EDM") singer, songwriter, producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist well known on the geek culture circuit where he is frequently booked to perform as a live act at their conventions. Based in Seattle, WA, the Avian Invasion alias refers to Ebel's bird-masked persona, with his fans affectionately referred to as "the invasion." Known for his enigmatic, future-science philosophy, Avian Invasion is well loved for his energetic live performances. His musical style encompasses elements of trance and progressive-house. Influenced by electronic music artists including Above & Beyond, Deadmau5, Odesza, Rezz, Ben Folds, The Guess Who and futurists like BT (Brian Transeau), Avian Invasion strives to engage audiences with his original productions as well as with his custom remixes. Whether he is performing as a DJ or as a multi-disciplinary artist playing keyboards, a keytar, percussion and singing, Avian Invasion seeks to present modern dance music to a like-minded and receptive audience. With a keen set of music production skills honed by thousands of hours in the recording studio and a cocked eye toward the distant future, Avian Invasion leads the charge to where no bird has flown before.

ASHA Applauds Proposed New Legislation Providing Medicare Beneficiaries Better Access to Audiologists’ Services

New bipartisan legislation introduced by Reps. Tom Rice (R-SC) and Matt Cartwright (D-PA) yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives would significantly enhance federal benefits for hearing health by providing Medicare beneficiaries critical direct access to both diagnostic and therapeutic services of audiologists—a move championed by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The bill, the Medicare Audiologist Access and Services Act of 2019, is also endorsed by the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA).

The legislation (H.R. 4056) would remove unnecessary barriers to hearing health care under Medicare, allowing patients to receive appropriate, timely, and cost-effective audiologic services. Currently, Medicare requires a physician order for patients to see an audiologist—and covers only diagnostic services provided by the audiologist without allowing for follow-up treatment or a plan of care.

Read here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/the-best-brain-toys-media-for-teachers.html

By allowing direct access to audiologic services and streamlining Medicare coverage policies so that audiologists can provide the full range of Medicare-covered diagnostic and treatment services that correspond to their scope of practice, the legislation can improve health outcomes for beneficiaries. The legislation would also reclassify audiologists as practitioners, which is consistent with the way Medicare recognizes other non-physician providers, such as clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, and advanced practice registered nurses.

The legislation is supported by a bipartisan group of legislators that includes U.S. Representatives Mark Meadows (R-NC), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Brad Schneider (D-IL), Ann Kuster (D-NH), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE).

"Seniors who suffer from hearing conditions shouldn't have to jump through hoops to see their preferred audiologist," said Rep. Rice. "The Medicare Audiology Access and Services Act cuts through the red tape to help Medicare patients access quality, affordable care. I will continue to reach across the aisle to find straightforward solutions to health care problems."

"It is imperative that Congress move this legislation through quickly to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries have timely access to audiologists' diagnostic and therapeutic services for hearing and balance conditions," ASHA President Shari Robertson, PhD, said. "Untreated hearing loss can adversely affect quality of life and lead to other conditions, such as cognitive decline, depression, anxiety, and social isolation."

Additional projects followed in subsequent years, most recently the repositioning of Wesley's community in Des Moines, WA, and the construction of Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup, WA.

"Wesley is excited to join its long time development partner, PHS, in bringing an innovative new community to the vibrant Tehaleh neighborhood," said Kevin Anderson, President and CEO, Wesley Homes. "Tehaleh is a perfect location for the abundant amenities and larger apartments found in our Wesley communities." Click here.
