Gallery Show by The Pablove Foundation on April 27th at Los Angeles Center of Photography in Hollywood

Young photographers are sharing the stories of what it means to be teens and young adults with cancer in a powerful new gallery show in Hollywood.

Picture a Cure, an exhibition curated by youth living with cancer opens on April 27th at The Los Angeles Center of Photography. The show features the photos captured by 16 artists ranging in age from 14 to 26 years old, who are reflecting on the ways that their cancer diagnosis has impacted their lives. The show is the culmination of a 10-week advanced course offered by The Pablove Foundation, a national pediatric cancer nonprofit that teaches the art of photography to children and teens living with cancer in nine cities across the United States. Pablove Shutterbugs, the foundation's signature arts program, helps kids with cancer develop their creative voice and find an expressive outlet through curriculum-based weekly classes taught by professional photographers.

But there's more behind this exhibit than just their raw experiences, these photographers are using their art for a cause -- to give back to other kids like them, who are battling cancer. The class is selling their prints to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. The money they raise as a class will be contributed to a Powered by Pablove childhood cancer research grant.

"It is an honor and a privilege to watch our Advanced Class students use their photography skills as a means to tell their personal stories while leveraging their photos to raise awareness and advocate for childhood cancer research. Their collections offer a perspective into not only life with cancer, but the essence of life in general. We urge the Los Angeles community to come out to meet these young local artists and support their work! I am continuously blown away by how thoughtful, fun-loving, and inspiring each of our Shutterbugs are, and I know you will be too. I have learned so much from our students and find it so rewarding to see them find hope, a sense of power and self-confidence through their camera," says Anna Lisa Caraveo-Flores, Pablove Shutterbugs Program Director.

The artists have arranged their photos alongside accompanying written statements, to shape a powerful narrative that touches upon the themes of love, family, faith and resilience.

The goal is to share the experience, sensations and emotions that come with cancer and through their art increase awareness and funding for childhood cancer, which is the leading cause of death by disease for people under the age of 18 yet received less than four cents of every federal cancer research dollar.

"As someone with first-hand experience, I can give people a view through the lenses of pediatric cancer. Through my photos I can show the good and also the bad that comes with cancer--- such as a photo of my aunts' cooking that makes you feel related and comfort, or a photo of my formula pump, which shows the result of my bone marrow transplant. Photography has impacted my life because it has given me something to look forward to everyday. Through Pablove's class, I have gained a new passion for something. I enjoy photography because it represents the many ways you can express yourself and be creative," says Pablove Shutterbug Edwin, age 17, from Los Angeles.

All prints are available for purchase at the show and online, with 100% of proceeds directly funding Pablove's childhood cancer research program. Through their art, the Pablove Shutterbugs students are giving the brightest minds in pediatric cancer new opportunities to test their innovative approaches to safer treatments and cures. The Pablove Shutterbugs Grant recipient will be announced in September, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

There is no cost to attend this all-ages community celebration, which is open to the public. The show will also include music, refreshments and a speaking panel.

Those who are not in the Los Angeles area to attend the Picture a Cure gallery show can still join the Pablove Shutterbugs movement and fuel their quest for a cure. All fine art prints are available for purchase at The Pablove Foundation's online print shop, pabloveprints.org. Supporters can also make a donation at pablove.org. All gifts are tax-deductible and can be securely processed online at pablove.org/donate. Be alert to read related news.

The Pablove Foundation is proudly partnered with Sony, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, The Huntington Library and Los Angeles Center of Photography.

Data Privacy Misleader Board Calls Out Companies with Most Questionable Means of Collecting and Sharing Personal Info

Osano, a champion for data privacy transparency and the B Corporation behind Privacy Monitor, today published the first Data Privacy Misleader Board, revealing eight websites with privacy issues that should be flagged for users.

As part of the process that informs the Privacy Monitor service, Osano's team of licensed attorneys has been dissecting the terms and conditions at some of the world's most popular websites. The rigorous policy review process and resulting reputation scores given to each site are based on more than 150 criteria as well as how the company gathers and utilizes users' data, where and with whom they share it, how it's stored and whether they comply with regulations. In a monthly Misleader Board, Osano will share some of the most notable offenses and the companies behind them.

Data Privacy Misleader Board - April 2019

1. Capital One: If you engage with Capital One on any social media - surprise! - you've agreed to its data privacy policy. Even if you aren't a customer, never visited their site and have never seen their terms and conditions, they now have rights to your personal data.

Read here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/the-giant-barbecue-battle-washingtons_15.html

2. NBC News: We challenge you to find something NBCUniversal doesn't track. Did you start to fill out a form but decide not to submit it? They have that data. They even track your scrolling and keystrokes, what you search for, anything you click on and oh so much more. Click here.

3. Go Fund Me: Raising money requires notifying the people you are asking to donate. If you share your contacts with the site, you've just indicated that you have personally informed every person in your address book (and that they all consented) as to what Go Fund Me can do with your family and friends' personal data. Congratulations! You are now liable.

4. Snapchat: Your consent means squat. According to their vague policy, SnapChat may (or may not) get your consent before accessing and using your private information, such as contacts, location and more.

5. UK.gov: An EU government with a hand in creating GDPR to protect the people is itself not compliant with GDPR regulations. Read related news now.

6. Delta: Sure, Delta has a policy, but don't hold them to it! The airline uses legalese to detail how they will use your data, but then goes on to state that it is not a legal document and creates no obligations for Delta. Did you read that far?

7. AT&T: Have you called that family meeting to discuss your phone company's terms and conditions? If you have multiple people on your account, AT&T assumes they all gave consent and that the account owner "got everyone together to talk" about how the company collects and uses personal data.

8. Accuweather: The weather app that comes preinstalled on many smartphones understandably tracks your location information, but it may also know your pulse, how lazy you are and how you are sleeping at night. It's accessing your wearables.

"Consumers today are required to accept the terms of service for every online account and every connected device they own. They've been conditioned to blindly scroll through and accept because they don't have the time or legal knowledge to translate these convoluted policies," said Arlo Gilbert, CEO and Founder of Osano. "We want to provide a simple way for web users to know whether the site they are using is safe or if they should proceed with caution. Like a nutrition label on food packaging, it helps people make better decisions about the companies they engage with and the data they share."

For consumers who want to know the privacy reputation scores of companies they connect with, they can install the Privacy Monitor browser plug-in or download the app and it will automatically reveal the score of every site they visit, helping them decide how to interact and share data (or not). No jargon reading necessary.

About Osano
At Osano, we believe that increasing transparency is for the good of the entire Internet. The web is built on trust, so websites, software vendors and service providers should be held accountable for how they gather, use, share and handle users' personal data. However, current privacy policies and practices mean that rights and responsibilities are known and understood only by service providers. Founded in 2018 as a B Corporation with a clear mission, Osano's platform, services and Privacy Monitor tools contribute to the education and transparency that represent the first step toward informing users and protecting data privacy rights.

Fast Company's May issue celebrates these world changing ideas, highlighting Sacred Vote as a groundbreaking advocacy tool designed to educate and heal voters in Native California. Sacred Vote was selected as a finalist in the Social Justice category and an honorable mention in the Experimental and General Excellence categories. As an innovative voter education model, Sacred Vote amplified Native movement building by asking all candidates on the ballot to publicly share their solidarity with sovereign tribal communities through a set of six targeted questions addressing tribal relationships, sovereignty and movements. Specifically, candidates were asked to address the issues of educational inequity, mass incarceration and climate injustice. Sacred Vote is building sovereign civic leadership pathways for system-impacted tribal communities to restore Native land and people.

About Sacred Vote: In two weeks, Sacred Vote attracted more than 1,000 voters and more than half reported to be first time voters. In addition, one hundred percent of voters said they were more knowledgeable about Native voting rights, prepared to make an informed vote and empowered in the voting process. More than 100 local, statewide, federal and judicial candidates were reported to have participated in this questionnaire. Voters heavily represented the Yurok, Hupa, Maidu, Miwok, Yokuts, Pomo, Ohlone, Chumash, Tataviam, and Cahuilla territories. Because of this work, never again will candidates be able to run for public office in the state with the largest Native population in the nation without publicly sharing their solidarity with Native peoples and movements. Native young people now live in a world where they know how elected leaders stand with Native movements - and they have an advocacy tool to hold them accountable, if and when they're elected.

About Sacred Generations: Sacred Vote is a project of Sacred Generations. Founded a year ago, Sacred Generations is a Native-led movement of medicine organizing system-impacted tribal communities to end educational inequity, mass incarceration and climate injustice in Native California and beyond. Awarded the Echoing Green Global fellowship in 2018, the founders are driven by the guidance of Shoshone sisters Mary and Carrie Dann when they said, "We can't stop the violence against our communities until we stop the violence against Mother Earth because what drives the violence against Mother Earth is the same thing that drives violence against our communities." The founders personal proximity to pain and power as system-impacted Indigenous peoples of this stolen land brought them together to protect sovereign nations and #HonorTheSacred. Educational inequity, mass incarceration and climate injustice are interconnected problems and Sacred Generations is building the power of sovereign solutions to drive transformative systems change.

About the World Changing Ideas Awards: World Changing Ideas is one of Fast Company's major annual awards programs and is focused on social good, seeking to elevate finished products and brave concepts that make the world better. A panel of judges from across sectors choose winners, finalists, and honorable mentions based on feasibility and the potential for impact. With a goal of awarding ingenuity and fostering innovation, Fast Company draws attention to ideas with great potential and helps them expand their reach to inspire more people to start working on solving the problems that affect us all.

VetStem Biopharma Shares the Story of Sonny Bar Lisa Who Was Successfully Treated With VetStem Cell Therapy

Sonny Bar Lisa, or Sonny for short, is a quarter horse that was lame on his left front limb for approximately two months. After a series of diagnostics, an MRI was performed which revealed Sonny had torn his left front deep digital flexor tendon. Sonny's owner, Alison, researched the injury and found that VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy may be a treatment option for her horse so she brought the information to her veterinarian.

Sonny's veterinarian had experience utilizing VetStem Cell Therapy and agreed to try stem cell therapy to help with Sonny's condition. An incision was made at Sonny's tailhead to extract a sample of fat tissue. This tissue was aseptically packaged and priority shipped to the VetStem laboratory in San Diego, California. Typically, once the fat is processed and injectable stem cell doses are created, they are immediately shipped back to the treating veterinarian so the patient receives treatment within 48 hours of the initial fat collection. For Sonny's case, his veterinarian wanted to make sure he had a specific number of doses so instead of shipping the cells out immediately, all of the cells were put into culture. The culture process is used to expand and "grow" additional cells to ultimately create more stem cell doses. The process took a few weeks to complete and once the cells were ready, the doses were shipped to Sonny's veterinarian for the scheduled injection.

Sonny received three stem cell injections: two intra-lesionally into his injured deep digital flexor tendon, and one intravenously. His veterinarian also elected to treat Sonny with platelet rich plasma in conjunction with the stem cell therapy. Platelet therapy is a process by which an injectable concentrate of a patient's own platelets is created utilizing the patient's blood. The concentrate is then injected into the site of an injury where the platelets release growth factors that attract stem cells and stimulate local tissue repair. Stem cell therapy and platelet therapy are believed to work synergistically.

After treatment, Sonny went through a twelve-month rehabilitation program to slowly get him back to where he was prior to the injury. According to Alison, Sonny was 99% sound after that twelve months however it was determined that he had a small crack in his navicular bone. For this, his veterinarian performed a treatment with a medication that is indicated for the control of the clinical signs of navicular syndrome in horses. After three months, Alison reported Sonny was 100% sound. Alison stated, "Initially we just did pleasure riding and trail riding, but we have recently started retraining in dressage and he is now competing at introductory level classes locally! He is a very happy horse!"

Stem cells are regenerative cells that can differentiate into many tissue types, reduce pain and inflammation, help to restore range of motion, and stimulate regeneration of tendon, ligament and joint tissues. In a clinical case series using VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy in horses with tendon and ligament and joint injuries, it was found that VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy helped these horses to return to full work or to the activity level that the owner desired.
