Arizona resident Steve Sasman is currently 42 states deep into a 48 state trek across the USA in his 2012 Tesla Model S which now has almost 170,000 miles.
He's out to dispel the common belief that you can't road trip in a Tesla. "Not only can you road trip, it's hands down the best road trip vehicle in the world. At most charging stops, the car is ready before you're done eating, using the restroom or catching up on some work. You arrive feeling relaxed and refreshed, not fried & frazzled especially if you use AutoPilot. The fact it costs nothing is an amazing bonus."
He's currently driven 10,000 miles on the trip...all at no cost thanks to the free lifetime SuperCharging that Tesla offers.
Since Tesla doesn't advertise, very few people are aware that Free SuperCharging for Life (with an owner referral) is ending 9/16/18 which is one of the reasons Sasman is on the trip. He doesn't want anyone to miss out on this incredible perk. Sasman says, "If another auto maker offered free gas for life, they would sell millions of cars the first week." However, it's amazing how many people don't know Tesla offers the equivalent of free gas. Yes, Teslas are a bit more expensive up front, but cost almost nothing to use and maintain.
Interestingly, this isn't even his first 48 State Tesla Trip. In 2015 he documented the trip in a viral blog post "How I Used & Abused My Tesla - What a Tesla looks like after 100,000 miles, a 48 State Road Trip, 500 Uber Rides, 20 Rentals and 2 AirBnB Sleepovers" Click here to read the latest news.
Not only has Sasman already saved about $1200 in gas on this trip, but thanks to Tesla's "Camper Mode" he's also saved about $1200 on lodging on the first 38 nights of the trip. Camper Mode allows the Tesla to keep the A/C or heat on all night so you can sleep in perfect comfort on the airbed with the back seats folded down. 18 nights in the Tesla, 4 nights in Hotels/Airbnb, and 16 nights with friends/family. 38 days on the road for a little more than $300 for lodging & fuel. Sasman will be the first person to drive his Tesla to all 108 Tesla stores in the lower 48 States. He's been impressed with the different way Tesla operates its stores. Unlike traditional dealers, there is no pressure and no haggling. The employees help educate customers on the many benefits of electric vehicles such as improved safety, amazing acceleration, extra cargo room and AutoPilot. What's inspired him most however, is how passionate the employees are for Tesla's mission to help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. They are not just there to collect a paycheck.

Lastly, Sasman urges anyone remotely interested to go visit their local Tesla Store before Free SuperCharging ends 9/16 to test drive a car and feel the difference.
