Nexcess Brings Two-Factor Authentication To Its Client Portal

Nexcess, a leading provider of performance-optimized WordPress and Magento cloud hosting, has introduced secure two-factor authentication to its client portal. Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security that makes it harder for unauthorized individuals to access critical hosting infrastructure.

The Nexcess Portal is a powerful administration interface used to control all aspects of a hosting client's account. The Portal's password authentication is secure if passwords are chosen and managed correctly. But if a malicious individual discovers the passwords because of poor password management or a brute force attack, they can authenticate and gain access to the interface.

When hosting clients activate two-factor authentication on their account, they will be required to provide a one-time code generated by a TFA mobile app when logging in. Without access to an authenticated mobile device, malicious third-parties will be denied access. Nexcess' Client Portal two-factor authentication works with popular two-factor authentication mobile apps, including Duo Mobile, LastPass Authenticator, and Google Authenticator. "Our client's businesses depend on the security and reliability of their hosting infrastructure. With two-factor authentication, the likelihood of a successful attack against the Client Portal is further reduced," commented Chris Wells, President and CEO of Nexcess. "Combined with Nexcess' many other security systems, our hosting clients can have complete confidence in the security of their hosting infrastructure."

The addition of two-factor authentication is just one of the ways Nexcess' hosting platform is engineered to keep data and users safe. All hosting accounts are equipped with an APF-based software firewall configured for optimal security and performance for the hosted application. Nexcess clients can optionally take advantage of a configurable hardware firewall.

Nexcess also offers two types of Virtual Private Network to protect client data as at traverses the internet: IPSec-based VPNs protect data transferred to remote sites, and an OpenVPN-based VPN protects direct connections to hosting servers, ensuring that developers and administrators can configure and manage servers securely.
