Payton Clark of Henkels & McCoy Receives MEA Life Sustaining Award

MEA Energy Association (MEA) is proud to bestow Payton Clark, apprentice 4, of Henkels & McCoy, with a Life Sustaining Award for using CPR to save a man's life.

Clark was working on a transmission project in southern Illinois when the crew noticed a tractor coming toward them. The driver appeared unconscious and was slumped over the steering wheel. The crew called 911, got the man off the tractor, and Clark began CPR. The farmer fully recovered after he was treated in hospital.

"It is a privilege to present this Life Sustaining Award," said John Gann, MEA Vice President. "These awards serve to highlight the outstanding individuals in the energy industry who rise up when called and make a difference when presented with the opportunity to do so."

Henkels & McCoy Shared Services is based out of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and have been members of MEA since 1997.

The MEA Life Sustaining Award is presented to individuals from member companies who have saved, or attempted to save, the life of another. The Meritorious Service Award is granted to recognize those who have performed actions in the service of another that are considered above and beyond. Applications for the MEA Life Sustaining and Meritorious Service Award are reviewed approved by the Executive Committee of MEA's Board of Directors. The rise of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements have exposed cases of sexual abuse within workplaces in the fields of government, entertainment, sports, and various other industries. Child sexual abuse has been missing from the conversation, which is surprising. The prevalence and effects of sexual abuse are devastating.

Considering that one out of every ten children experiences sexual abuse by the age of 18 and there are over 42 million survivors of sexual abuse in the United States, the #metoo movement is only the beginning. Statistics tell us that women who have experienced abuse are prone to re-experience abuse again later and adopt harmful beliefs about sexuality, leaving them vulnerable to revictimization.

Karla's journey started as a Salvadoran immigrant, and she built up two decades of experience in community and economic development before leaving her career in city government to truly walk in her purpose. Her personal experience of healing from her own sexual abuse, both as a child and in the workplace, prepared her for her career as an author and keynote speaker, with a passion to reach women who have experienced abuse.
