During June, KVC Health Systems Celebrates Families That Safely Reunited After Foster Care

All families go through tough times. When parents face adversity and toxic stress due to traumatic experiences, poverty, untreated mental health needs and lack of a support network, they may be unable to care for their children. In some cases, a court decision is made to remove the children from the home and place them with a relative, familiar caregiver or foster family while they receive support from caring professionals.

What is National Family Reunification Month?

June is National Family Reunification Month, and KVC Health Systems and its local teams celebrate those families that have worked hard to overcome obstacles, resolve conflicts and learn healthy skills in order for their children to safely return home from foster care. We also recognize the child welfare and mental health professionals, including hundreds of people who are part of the KVC team in five states, who support families in the process to safely reunify.

The Child Welfare Information Gateway shared that this year's theme is exploring foster care as a support to families, rather than a substitute for parents. While foster care and adoption are often needed, the first goal of child welfare is safely preventing foster care or reunifying families — in other words, keeping kids in their own families whenever safely possible.

How You Can Help Families Working Toward Reunification

If you care about families in your community who face serious challenges, we invite you to show your support during June and all year long. Relatives, neighbors, friends and community members can help families tremendously in these ways:

KVC Focuses on Keeping Kids in Families

Last year, KVC strengthened 7,036 families involved in the child welfare system with in-home therapy and skill-building, care coordination and other critical support. Of those:

Nationally, about half of children (49%) who leave foster care each year are safely reunited with their birth families. It is our goal to help children achieve a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible when reunification can occur. If reintegration with the child's birth family is not possible, we then seek a loving adoptive family. Read all the latest news.

On June 15, our KVC Kansas team is hosting a unique event in Olathe, KS called the Parent Expo. This event is designed for families who may benefit from social services and community resources. Families who attend will learn about the child welfare system so they can advocate for their family's needs, connect with community resources and learn about access to health care. They'll also receive tips on resume writing, interviewing for jobs, budgeting, parenting and peer-to-peer support. Lunch is provided. We'll be featuring a bounce house and other kids' activities. SecureMac Releases MacScan 3.2 Anti-Malware Security & Privacy Suite for MacOS

SecureMac has announced the latest version of their flagship macOS security app: MacScan 3.2. Company officials say that this release will deliver an important privacy improvement for the Safari browser, as well as providing users with some significant UI/UX enhancements.

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/mstoner-inc-and-clients-win-six.html

The most notable change in MacScan 3.2 is that it now supports Full Disk Access in macOS 10.14 (Mojave), allowing users to clean Safari items using the app's Internet Clutter Cleanup functionality. This should come as welcome news to the many Mojave users concerned about privacy issues caused by tracking cookies in Safari.

As SecureMac CEO Nicholas Raba remarked, "As the majority of Mac users are using Safari as their primary browser, MacScan 3.2 will fill a significant gap in their ability to protect themselves from unwanted tracking. By providing a fast and easy way to scan for privacy threats in Safari, MacScan will allow users to protect their privacy or even blacklist certain tracking cookies if they choose."

The update comes as Apple itself is moving to take action on privacy issues in Safari. A new privacy standard for the browser, called "Privacy Preserving Ad Click Attribution", was announced several weeks ago on the WebKit blog. Though still in beta, the end goal of PPACA is to prevent advertisers from tracking and collecting excessive data on users who click on online ads. However, the proposed standard is not expected to go live until the end of 2019. In the meantime, Safari users will likely continue to rely on apps like MacScan to protect their privacy.

In addition to addressing privacy issues in Safari, MacScan 3.2 also brings some UI/UX improvements, as well as a minor bug fix that will ensure scan logs display properly in all versions of macOS.

Lead Developer Nicholas Ptacek summed up the development process underlying the changes this way: "Computer security has traditionally been viewed as something complicated and scary, so one of our goals with MacScan 3 has been to make the process of securing your Mac as easy as possible for computer users of any skill level. To that end, we've worked hard to provide an intuitive user interface so that our customers can spend less time worrying about security and more time getting things done on their Macs."

Because MacScan automatically checks for updates, licensed users of MacScan 3.1 will see the version 3.2 update when they launch the program. In addition, a DMG download of the latest version of the app will be made available on the SecureMac website. Continue reading.

As for the road ahead, SecureMac says they plan to continue working on updates and support for MacScan to make sure it's ready for the Fall 2019 release of macOS 10.15 (Catalina), announced by Apple at last week's Worldwide Developers Conference

Lithium-Ion Batteries Make Tripp Lite’s New SmartPro UPS Systems Lighter and More Resilient

Tripp Lite, a world-leading manufacturer of power and connectivity solutions, has made power protection for critical IT infrastructure easier to manage with four new UPS systems in its SmartPro® series. These line-interactive rack-mount models contain lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, a class of lithium-ion technology with high heat resistance that weighs 60% less and provides greater longevity than equivalent lead-acid batteries. These UPS models offer a "fit and forget" solution that is ideal for edge computing and other applications demanding years of maintenance-free service.

Batteries in these Tripp Lite UPS systems can recharge to 100% capacity in as little as 1.5 hours, compared to the 24 hours it typically takes for a lead-acid counterpart.

"This is a game changer for power protection in applications where blackouts and brownouts are recurring threats," said David Slotten, Tripp Lite's Vice President of Product Marketing. "Lithium delivers much more predictable service life than lead acid and, once power is restored, rapidly recharges to be ready to respond to subsequent outages."

IT professionals who are tired of the maintenance demands of their lead-acid battery UPS systems will appreciate the simpler requirements from these models. Their built-in battery management system (BMS) automatically monitors and controls energy flow in the battery pack, helping it last longer and ensuring safety. The UPS systems can be managed remotely as network devices and have the support of a 5-year standard warranty. Read this for more information.
