Martello Showcases Network Performance Solution for Mobile IoT Applications with BlackBerry QNX

Martello Technologies Group Inc., a leading provider of solutions that deliver clarity and control of complex IT environments, announced today to mark National Autonomous Vehicle Day, the demonstration of a network performance management solution for mobile applications such as autonomous vehicles. The proof of concept was developed in collaboration with BlackBerry QNX as part of the BlackBerry QNX/L-Spark Accelerator, and was showcased at the recently launched L5 Track in Ottawa on Tuesday, May 28th. Martello's mobile network performance proof of concept demonstrates that it is possible to maintain reliable cellular network connectivity for bandwidth-intensive real-time services such as an autonomous moving vehicle. This offers potential for solutions such as the mobile office, autonomous trains and drones, disaster relief and emergency response, where reliable communication is critical to success and safety. Martello presented this solution recently to the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police on their visit to the L5 Track in Ottawa.

Working with the BlackBerry QNX technical team over six months, Martello was able to provide connectivity to the infotainment system inside the BlackBerry QNX vehicle. "This proof of concept demonstrated that Martello's technology can deliver reliable network connectivity in challenging mobile applications such as autonomous vehicles," said Grant Courville, VP, Products and Strategy at BlackBerry QNX. Monster Energy’s James Foster Takes Bronze in BMX Big Air at X Games Shanghai 2019

Monster Energy congratulates team rider James Foster on a strong bronze medal finish in BMX Big Air at the inaugural X Games Shanghai 2019 today. In a boundary-pushing Big Air session on the giant Mega Ramp that drew massive crowds at the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, the 33-year-old from Redlands, California battled the world elite of big ramp BMX freestyle riders to claim his sixth career X Games medal.

The first-ever X Games Shanghai 2019 brings the biggest names in BMX, skateboarding and freestyle motocross together for an action-packed weekend. The world's premier action sports spectacle reaches audiences in China and millions of viewers across the globe via live broadcasts on ESPN and partner networks.

Speaking of spectacle, it hardly gets more spectacular than BMX Big Air. Towering over the X Games event village at a total height of 73 feet, the Big Air ramp proved a crowd magnet on Saturday. Starting from a 59-feet roll-in, BMX riders sent their best aerials over the kicker gap in the structure's middle – optionally clearing a 50-feet or 63-feet gap – before finishing their runs with massive aerials on the 27-feet quarterpipe. Each rider received four runs to post a high score – composed of the gap and quarterpipe aerials – in a final session featuring ten athletes from three countries, including six American riders, three Australians and one Brazilian.

Monster Energy's Foster came into the event as a podium threat after winning back-to-back gold at X Games Minneapolis 2017 and 2018, plus silver at X Games Sydney 2018. But past achievements held no weight, as the level of Big Air competition reached an all-time high in Shanghai: With competitors posting perfect runs early on and newcomer Ryan Williams clinching the lead, Foster found himself trailing behind in last place as the action rolled into third runs.

Finally, Foster found the perfect run he was looking for on his third attempt: Starting from the top of the roll-in, Foster sent a huge no-handed backflip – taking his hands off the bike's handlebar in mid-air – over the big gap, followed by a massive, 17' 3"-high quadruple tailwhip on the 27-feet quarterpipe. The perfect landing earned Foster 87.66 points and a strong bronze medal finish.

Today's bronze medal in Shanghai brings Foster's X games count to six medals (two gold, one silver and three bronze). Known as a fierce competitor, the 33-year-old made history at X Games Minneapolis 2018 by landing the world's first quadruple tailwhip on a vert ramp and stomped the first barspin downside triple tailwhip the year before. He has also proven his all-round ability by claiming bronze in BMX Dirt at X Games Austin 2016. Outside the contest arena, Foster is a regular performer on the Nitro Circus Live tour, where he performs in sold-out arenas in front of tens of thousands of spectators. When he's not competing or touring, he likes to polish his latest moves on his private backyard ramp facility in California.

Also putting strong show in Shanghai, Foster's Monster Energy teammate and Australian BMX legend Andy Buckworth put together a perfect routine on his fourth and final run: In the heated finals session, the 29-year-old from Lake Haven, Australia pulled a double front flip over the big gap, right into a perfect Flair aerial for 74.00 points and seventh place.

Online School Celebrates Seniors With Traditional Graduation Ceremony

Utah Connections Academy, a statewide, online public school that serves about 1,200 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will celebrate its senior class later today with a traditional in-person graduation ceremony in Salt Lake City. The school's largest graduating class to date, with 126 seniors, will travel from all corners of the state to celebrate their collective achievements.

Utah Connections Academy's graduation ceremony will include addresses from salutatorian Jarence Adair of Tooele, and valedictorian Veneita Bustin of Salt Lake City, who earned a $25,000 scholarship to Weber State University.

Adair will study civil engineering at the University of Utah, a path she chose after having a number of discussions with her dad about the importance of developing infrastructure and solid foundations.

"Civil engineers help define a good society," Adair said. "I want to be part of that."

Bustin, an avid traveler, has plans to visit Iceland and Australia over the summer before beginning her criminal justice studies at Weber State in the fall. She also intends to study abroad.

"Our graduates have diverse plans for the next chapters of their lives, including military service, entering the workforce and continuing their education," Taylor said. "Regardless of their chosen paths, we can say with confidence that these self-disciplined young adults are prepared to tackle the challenges in front of them and find success for themselves."
