Online School Celebrates Seniors With Traditional Graduation Ceremony

Utah Connections Academy, a statewide, online public school that serves about 1,200 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will celebrate its senior class later today with a traditional in-person graduation ceremony in Salt Lake City. The school's largest graduating class to date, with 126 seniors, will travel from all corners of the state to celebrate their collective achievements.

The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at Lifetime Activities Center at SLCC, 4700 S. Redwood Road, in Salt Lake City. Read news here.

"There is nothing more fulfilling as an educator than to see student goals transform into student achievements, because we all know that those successes never come without hard work and commitment," Erin Taylor, Utah Connections Academy principal, said. "Graduation is a special time, and we look forward to hearing about the great things our new graduates accomplish in the future."

Utah Connections Academy's graduation ceremony will include addresses from salutatorian Jarence Adair of Tooele, and valedictorian Veneita Bustin of Salt Lake City, who earned a $25,000 scholarship to Weber State University.

Adair will study civil engineering at the University of Utah, a path she chose after having a number of discussions with her dad about the importance of developing infrastructure and solid foundations.

"Civil engineers help define a good society," Adair said. "I want to be part of that."

Bustin, an avid traveler, has plans to visit Iceland and Australia over the summer before beginning her criminal justice studies at Weber State in the fall. She also intends to study abroad.

"Our graduates have diverse plans for the next chapters of their lives, including military service, entering the workforce and continuing their education," Taylor said. "Regardless of their chosen paths, we can say with confidence that these self-disciplined young adults are prepared to tackle the challenges in front of them and find success for themselves."

Utah Connections Academy families enroll for a variety of reasons, including a need or desire for a flexible schedule, a need for a safe environment, or to accommodate health issues. The school's annual Parent Satisfaction Survey revealed that a majority of families chose UCA because they were looking for greater flexibility. Others simply wanted a change from their neighborhood school, or desired a learning environment that they felt was safer.

MidAmerican Energy Rated #1 Again in Energy Industry Benchmark Report

MidAmerican Energy takes top honors for the third consecutive year in the 15th Annual Energy Utility Benchmark Report on Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, released today (May 31) by IVR Doctors. The 2019 Report compares 100 energy utility automated telephone systems in the U.S. and Canada.

"Gold Stethoscope" recognition was awarded to winners in 13 categories, including Top Overall Company; Top Electric, Gas, and Combination Utility; and Top Canadian Utility, as well as to 14 "balanced companies," whose automated telephone system achieved top quartile ratings in all rating categories.

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/aixswiss-bringing-five-unique-nupure.html

"What distinguishes this report from others is its simultaneous views of an automated phone system from two perspectives: a caller's experience using it and a company's experience managing it. Our clients prove that success in both areas is not mutually exclusive," said Peter Brandt, IVR Doctors' co-founder. Read this for more information.

The Report identifies automated telephone systems that successfully balance company objectives and customer preferences in three key rating categories: functionality, usability, and aesthetics, the major drivers of customer satisfaction and system utilization.

"Over the years, in clients' public presentations, we have seen a strong correlation between overall Top Quartile performance and both positive operational metrics and strong caller satisfaction," said Mark Camack, IVR Doctors' co-founder.  "The Report also highlights common design mistakes and demonstrates clearly how those errors can have a negative impact on a company and its customers' experience."

The 100 companies evaluated in the 2019 Report were rated using standards which IVR Doctors can apply to any other company interested in inclusion in the Benchmark. No other consistent set of IVR design characteristics have been in place or proven effective in utility industry automated telephone systems over the 15 years of this Benchmark Report.

The 2019 Report is available online at ivrdoctors.com. As an additional benefit, Report buyers receive a customized teleconference with IVR Doctors, targeted specifically to their company's automated system menus.

Franklin County Visitors Bureau Spotlights Renfrew Institute’s Shakespeare in the Park

Franklin County Visitors Bureau invites the public to Shakespeare in the Park on Saturday, June 15, 5:30 PM, at Renfrew Park in Waynesboro PA. The event, hosted by Renfrew Institute, is a production of William Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors. The performance is the second Shakespeare in the Park production by the Maryland Entertainment Group (MEG) of Hagerstown to be presented at Renfrew Park.

"This show represents the institute's continued effort to bring Shakespeare in the Park back to our local community," said Tracy Holliday, executive director of Renfrew Institute.

A Comedy of Errors is a farce about two sets of identical twins who were separated at birth. Twins Antipholus of Ephesus and Antipholus of Syracuse—along with their twin servants, Dromio of Ephesus and Dromio of Syracuse—find themselves in the same town, unaware of each other's existence. Chaos ensues as identities are mistaken, false accusations are made, and puns run rampant.

Among Shakespeare's shortest comedies, the play was written in the early years of Shakespeare's career, relying heavily on slapstick and word play.

Director Sam Little has created a novel twist for the comedy. "Comedy of Errors is already a really funny show by itself, but we wanted to up the ante by doing a little gender swapping," Little said. "Shakespeare is great at creating power dynamics between the sexes in his plays. We found that when you swap the sexes of the original characters it provides a whole new perspective on the roles we place on gender in society throughout history and also provides another level of comedic potential in the play. The result is both thought-provoking and hysterical."

The cast includes Jacob Reese (Dromio of Ephesus), Jacob Waeyaert (Dromio of Syracuse), Megan Siebeneichen (Antiphola of Ephesus) and Anne Hunt (Antiphola of Syracuse).

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics as they enjoy Shakespeare under a summer sky.

The production debuts a new partnership between the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library and Renfrew Institute, Novel Reels LIVE! The Novel Reels program, combining free books and free movies, began three years ago as a way of helping young people make the connection between movies on screen and the books they read.

The Franklin County Visitors Bureau invites all to explore history, arts and architecture, recreation, natural beauty, fresh foods and the warm hospitality of communities like Chambersburg, Greencastle, Mercersburg, Shippensburg, and Waynesboro. Franklin County PA is located just north of the Mason Dixon Line and is an easy drive from Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Plan a visit at ExploreFranklinCountyPA.com, contact 866.646.8060, or stop at the new Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center in downtown Chambersburg.

Raising a Healthier Generation of Children

Over the past several decades, a dramatic shift in health has occurred in the United States, and many other developed countries. Obesity has quickly become a leading nutritional disorder among adults and adolescents, and according to the World Health Organization, the prevalence of this obesity epidemic has more than doubled from 1975 to 2016.

Children are particularly susceptible to learning harmful habits as they typically follow the lifestyle example exhibited by their parents and/or guardians. When it comes to the daily intake of soda pop, and other sugary drinks, a study by Harvard University shows that "1 in 4 people get at least 200 calories from such drinks; and 5% get at least 567 calories—equivalent to four cans of soda." Not only is this habit detrimental to adults, but it also serves as a poor example of nutritional and self-care practices among adolescents.

The human body is primarily composed of water; for this reason, it is recommended that children ages 5-12 drink between 1 and 2 liters of water daily, depending on their own specific age bracket. When the main source of daily liquid intake stems from high caloric sources with little nutritional value, the body is taxed with an overload of unwanted calories. The kidneys must then work overtime to filter out any artificial substances such as dyes, corn syrups and flavorings. These additional calories from soda pop and other sugary drinks can attribute to obesity in adults and adolescents.

Educating our youth by example encourages them to be more aware of their daily beverage choices and proper self-care for their developing bodies. Knowing the health risks associated with sugary and highly caffeinated beverages helps to encourage all generations to consider a better approach to long-term health and well-being.

Healthy YOU Vending provides access to healthier beverage options that are comprised of natural ingredients and less sugar.
