Real Estate News: HGTV’s 2018 Dream Home Winner Is For Sale

"HGTV's 2018 Dream Home"

Millions watched to see if theirs would be the winning entry after filling them out every day for several months to see if they were the winner of the 2018 HGTV Dream Home. There were over 123 million entries to win the grand prize package. And yes, there was a lucky winner, but because many times it's impossible for a winner to pick up and move to a different part of the country, the fabulous house, with all of its designer contents, has been put on the market at $1.9 million.

In one of the most scenic spots in the country, Gig Harbor, Washington, HGTV's senior property hunter found an existing 1974 home on a cliff above the water's edge with a spectacular view of Henderson Bay and its colorful sunsets. In addition to a sound house, there was a concrete bulkhead that would make a great waterside lounge area and steps going down to the water for water recreation.

Steeped in modern rusticity from its textured-stone car park to its dark-brown siding and dramatically pitched steel roof, the house blends naturally into its earthy, woodsy surroundings. At 3,591 square feet, the home takes full advantage of the water views through its wraparound two-story vaulted glass wall. Consisting of four bedrooms and three baths, there is plenty of space for family and friends alike. The main level is open and spacious with views from the living room, kitchen and dining area with an additional accent feature of a centrally placed wrought-iron railing surrounding a staircase between kitchen and dining descending to the lower level. The kitchen is composed of a large island for food prep and casual dining and furnished with high-end appliances. The main level also includes the master suite with sitting area and water views with eye-catching attached bath, vaulted ceilings and custom walk-in closet. There is a second master suite on the main level with bath and walk-in closet. The lower level has two more bedrooms, a hall bath, separate areas for entertaining, a media area, a wet bar area with wine cooler - all leading out to the rear covered sitting area, outdoor kitchen and waterfront.

Gig Harbor is well known for its picturesque historic waterfront, boutiques and fine dining, less than 20 minutes to Tacoma and an hour to Seattle. The home's listing agent is Michael Morrison at Morrison House Sotheby's International Realty, Gig Harbor, Washington.

DeVIL-TECH’S 8(a) Certification Opens the Door for Large Federal Contracts with Help of SBA

DeVilliers Technology Solutions LLC (DeVil-Tech), a systems and software engineering company, is honored to be certified as a participant in the Small Business Association (SBA) 8(a) Business Development Program. The certification comes after the SBA evaluated the minority and service-disabled Veteran-owned company on several factors including its financial records, business leadership, moral character, and its ability to succeed.

The federal government's goal is to award at least five percent of all federal contracting dollars to small disadvantaged businesses each year and the 8(a) BD program is one way to achieve that goal. To level the playing field for small businesses, the government limits competition for certain contracts to small businesses. Those contracts are called "small business set-asides," and they help small businesses compete for and win federal contracts. According to a report issued by the Congressional Research Service, a total of 3,421 8(a) firms were awarded more than $27.1 billion in federal contracts in the 2017 fiscal year.

"Receiving an 8(a) certification is a major strategic accomplishment for us," says Dr. DeVilliers, Founder and President of DeVil-Tech, "It opens our company to many more business opportunities through the set-aside contracts, with direct awards up to $5 million a year. This gives us a competitive edge to leverage in the years to come."

DeVil-Tech now enters the nine-year small business development program. Not only will the program allow the company to compete for federal contracts, DeVil-Tech will also have access to a Business Opportunity Specialist to help navigate federal contracting, be able to form joint ventures with established businesses through the SBA's mentor-protégé program, and will receive management and technical assistance, including business training, counseling, marketing assistance, and high-level executive development.

River + Wolf Launches NOD (Names of Distinction), an Online Gallery that Celebrates the Unsung Heroes of Branding—Company and Product Names

River + Wolf, an award-winning brand naming and writing agency, announces the recent launch of NOD (Names of Distinction), an online gallery of exceptional company and product names. Each month, NOD will showcase 12 names from a different industry or category. The first exhibition features a collection of shade names along with companies that produce shades for nail polish, eye shadow, and foundation.

River + Wolf created NOD to bring awareness to the importance of naming, to celebrate exceptional names, and to inspire founders or marketing executives tasked with the job of developing a company or product name. A name is the foundation of a brand, but, typically, naming does not receive much industry attention. It is easy to find galleries and marketing award programs highlighting logos, websites, and advertising campaigns, but rarely do you see a roundup of inspired brand names. Names are the unsung heroes of branding, and River + Wolf intends to change that.

NOD will feature a new themed collection of names each month. To brighten the dreariness of January, River + Wolf chose to explore the colorful world of nail polish, eye shadow and foundation shade names, and the companies that create them. This inaugural exhibition consists of names ranging from the elegant and edgy to the poetic and playful.

"At River + Wolf, we love great brand names—not only our own, but also those created by marketing execs, company founders, and agency colleagues," says Margaret Wolfson, founder and Chief Creative of River + Wolf. "We created the monthly NOD exhibition to celebrate these magnificent monikers and, more broadly, the art of brand naming. We hope NOD will shine a light on the importance of a quality name and provoke thought and discussion as gallery visitors consider what makes an outstanding name."

To determine which names to honor, Wolfson and her team reviewed hundreds of products and companies, looking for those rare names that paint vivid pictures in the mind and/or evoke a story or bit of mystery. "There are so many great names out there—choosing a handful isn't easy," Wolfson said. "To limit our choices and give a boost to newer brands we focused on products and companies launched within the last 10 years."

One of the names showcased in January is Scuba, a nail polish shade by JINsoon. "The name evokes rich teal in a creative and powerful way," Wolfson said. "It instantly immerses you in the sea." Other January honorees include Scattered Light, a glittery eye shadow shade by Hourglass Cosmetics; Clay Play, an eye and cheek palette of earth-tones by Tarte; and Dark Fiction, a dark red-brown lipstick shade by Lancôme. Each exhibition will also include a companion blog article on the River + Wolf website that describes what makes the names so great.

Adding to the fun, River + Wolf plans to tie each collection to something unique about the month. In February, NOD will highlight names of perfumes, a tribute to Valentine's Day. In March, the gallery will exhibit names of brands geared towards women, in celebration of International Women's Day. More info here.
