A Surprise Ending with Three Young Inventor Challenge Winners Caps Off Chicago Toy and Game Week 2018 as 30,000 Consumers Celebrate Play and Innovation on Navy Pier

For the first time in its 13 year history, the Young Inventor Challenge (YIC), held annually during Chicago Toy and Game Week (ChiTAG), crowned three grand prize winners for Most Marketable Concept, a category sponsored by Target and Pressman Toy. Cain Guerra, a 4th grader from Palos Park, IL won for "Soup It." Lyra Acosta, a 5th grader from Palos Hills, IL won for "Hypnodizzy." The team of Lily Brown of Alpine, UT and Tait Hansen of Evanston, IL, both 6th graders, won for "Bet You Can't." Each of the winning young inventors along with three members of their family will take a trip to Target Headquarters in Minneapolis for a behind-the-scenes tour of how products move through the processes from selection all the way to store shelves. Read this for more information.

Over 250 kids competed in the YIC spanning 5 countries and 15 states. Each one received feedback from 100 mentors from Target, Goliath, PlayMonster, LEGO, Spin Master, Razor, Disney, Hasbro, Mattel, IDEO, KID Group, 7Towns and many more worldwide. A complete list of 2018 YIC winners can be found here: https://www.chitag.com/yic

"The competition gets better and better every year. We are so impressed and excited for each of these young people," said David Norman, President of Pressman Toy. "We can't promise anything yet, but we are seriously looking at each of the winning games to possibly manufacture and sell under the Pressman Toy name." Click here to read the latest news.

Pressman Toy partnered with 2017's Young Inventor Challenge winner Ellie Skalla of Oak Park, IL and manufactured her game "Galactiquest." It will be released in January 2019 exclusively at Target. PlayMonster also has two games coming out in Fall 2019 from Young Inventor Challenge winners including "Draw-n To Crime" by Tiggy Silwinski of Palos Hills, IL and "There's a Poo on My Shoe!" by Edie Piacenza of Elmhurst, IL. Read here.

The Young Inventor Challenge was just one of many highlights at the 16th annual Chicago Toy and Game Week (Nov. 15-18) which garnered more than 1.5 billion media impressions in 2018. Over the course of four days, more than 30,000 toy and game fans from around the world came together at Navy Pier to celebrate play and meet the inventors behind the world's most popular toys and games.

Many of those inventors were honored at the Toy and Game Innovator Awards gala (TAGIEs) Friday evening. Spin Master CMO Nancy Zwiers gave the keynote. As a former inventor herself, she shared some of the challenges she faced in her career. "It's a rollercoaster ride. I didn't do it because it was easy. Being an inventor is damn hard. We do this because the world needs our creativity, our ability to think outside the box, to see opportunities that no one else can see and our playfulness." Later, awards were given in categories such as:

Special recognition went to:

Dynamic duo David Small and Paul Rago shared their 27 year history in the industry with the crowd through photos and memorable stories starting with their first toy, Teddy Ruxpin, all the way to present day. "It's nice to still have a lifetime after all of these inventions, aside from the achievement, it's just nice to be kicking and still doing toys," Paul said.

A complete list of TAGIE nominees, winners and honorees can be found here: http://www.chitag.com/2018-tagies

On Saturday morning, doors opened on the 16th annual Chicago Toy and Game Fair, an experiential and immersive playground where families got the chance to play with the latest toys and games, and interact with the inventors who created them. More than 135 companies exhibited. Fair attendees voted the Best Game in Show Winner, "Greedy Granny" by Goliath Games. Kids and adults got the chance to try and steal cookies from a real-life Greedy Granny. For the second year in a row, the ever-popular Playfoam was voted Best Toy in Show. This exhibit was a favorite with tables piled high of the squishy, squashy modeling compound, surrounding a gigantic balloon igloo where kids could receive a free Playfoam Pals Series 3 snow globe.

Other attendee favorites included PlayMonster, which allowed kids and adults to try their luck at "Don't Rock the Boat." Razor hosted an open floor for test driving their latest offering, the Drift Rider. Ravensburger showed off its new GraviTrax and many brands such as MindWare's babu blocks, Baby Paper and startups like YoeeBaby participated in ChiTAG's inaugural Baby and Toddler PlaySpace. Another inaugural feature, the Adult Games Beer Garden featured brands like Educational Insights which gave game lovers the chance to play a round of Sculptapalooza against a professional comedian from Upright Citizen's Brigade. University Games showed off its one-of-a-kind Tabletop Shuffleboard. Other games for grown ups included Game of Nasty Things, Brain Fart, Utter Nonsense Naughty Edition, Shit Happens, Jenga Giant, Schmovie, Spank the Yeti, Diced!, Judge Your Friends, Ridiculous Expositions, DUH, Blank It, Fake News, Game of Phones, Injury or Illness, Debockle, What Do You Meme?

First time exhibitors Thomas Kies and Andreas Hoenigschmid of Geobender made quite a splash when hundreds of hotel guests woke up to #chitag carved in the sand on the closest beach to Navy Pier. Turns out, sand carving is how Geobender got its start. "They were brilliant and have a free ChiTAG booth for life," said Mary Couzin, CEO and founder of the Chicago Toy and Game Group.

The annual consumer event was immediately preceded on Thursday and Friday November 15 and 16 by the ChiTAG Inventor and Innovation Conferences, where new and professional inventors and design students interacted with over 95 top toy and game acquisition executives from 65 companies, including Spin Master, LEGO, Hasbro, Mattel, Goliath, PlayMonster, Playmobil, Bandai and The Michael Kohner Corporation coming from over 25 countries. This year's conferences featured keynotes from Adi Golad, Founder and Chairman of Goliath, Gray Bright, CEO and Founder at Cloud, Karri Bean, Senior Manager of LEGO at Disney Consumer Products, Tanya Thompson, Hasbro's Director of Global Product Acquisition and Inventor Relations for Gaming, Dr. Kelly Page, Chief Innovation Officer of IL Mathematics and Science Academy and Tim Walsh, Fearless Leader at The Playmakers plus more than two dozen other speakers across five conference tracks.

The 2018 ChiTAG Week and the 17th annual Chicago Toy & Game Fair will take place next year, the weekend before Thanksgiving on November 21-24. All details will be released as they become available at http://www.ChiTAG.com.

JPLaw Arrives in Time for Christmas - General Practice Law Firm in Wilmington, Delaware to Begin Serving Clients Across the Tri-State Area

The Law Offices of Jackson Phillips, Esquire, LLC ("JPLaw") opened their doors for business over two weeks ahead of their announced launch date of January 2, 2019. JPLaw is an old-fashioned general practice law firm that gives consultations on legal problems across the board and helps potential clients find the lawyer best-suited to their issue- even if that lawyer is employed by a direct competitor.

As a new firm, JPLaw cannot (nor should it) promote itself as being an "expert" in any practice area. JPLaw has no statistical data, but its professional projections anticipate over 90% of its business coming from the Family Law arena- an area that Jackson Phillips, Esquire, CEO and sole proprietor describes as being "...a natural fit because of my desire to help people, one person at a time." The firm also anticipates a smattering of clients in personal injury law as well as real estate and general civil litigation.

Helping people is something this firm has put a lot of thought into. JPLaw appears dedicated to helping with general charitable causes. Its website, http://www.jacksonphillipsesq.com, promises to donate 10% of all yearly profits to charity. More specifically, the website reads:

"The two charities selected for equal donations are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention ("AFSP") and the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation ("BBRF"). AFSP is an organization devoted to raising awareness, funding scientific research, and providing resources and aid to those affected by suicide, and BBRF is an organization dedicated to funding cutting-edge research to find cures for mental illnesses. As an attorney with bipolar disorder, I am concerned both with heavily-funded research and with eliminating the stigma associated with the condition."

Mr. Phillips candidly admits that he chose those particular firms because, as a an attorney who suffers from bipolar disorder (a rare creature), he can personally identify with the horror of suicidal thoughts that won't go away, and he has fallen asleep many nights to hopes of a medical breakthrough that would allow him to be more "normal."

When asked whether his openness about mental illness will cause him to lose business, Mr. Phillips said, "That is for God to know. I make no representation to know the answer. However, I do represent that I regularly and passionately attack my mental illness with psychiatry, group sessions, and periods of reflection built into my day at reasonable intervals.

Candidly, I would argue that the insane lawyers are the ones with the nerve to charge $400 per hour or more, merely CAPITALizing on an often forgotten truth about CAPITALism. It only works in a society where people operate according to moral obligations that prevent them from gobbling up every resource in sight like a greedy-lawyer versions of Pacman. Ironically, the $75 dollars per hour I charge seems quite sane, don't you think?"

And there it is, the remarkable hourly rate of $75 that undercuts competing rates by so much that it actually appears to be a moral decision- not a business decision. The hourly rate is just one example of JPLaw having stated policies to its own direct disadvantage and for the purpose of improving the customer experience:

Example: Any client who calls JPLaw and gets no return call within 24 hours gets the entire representation free. To quote Mr. Phillips, "You have a right to talk to your lawyer when you want to, not when they are free." Click here to read the latest news.

Example: JPLaw schedules consultations 24/7, making appointments around the clock to cater to night shift workers as well as those of us who live by day.

When asked what precipitated the early start, Mr. Phillips said that, "The phones were a'ringin, and I was ready to go."

There is one ideal that tops JPLaw's client-centered priority. JPLaw has made it clear on its website that its number one obligation is to the truth. It, "will offer a vigorous representation... within the Model Rules and our collective conscience." Read this for more information.

Well, there is a new law firm in the Tri-State area. From the looks of things, it might make a splash in the legal community.

In-telligent Travel Advisories and One-touch Connection to Foreign Embassies and Local Emergency Services Keeps Travelers Safer Anywhere in the World

In-telligent, a technology company delivering a personal safety and emergency communications platform designed to keep individuals around the world more informed and safer during emergency situations and important time-sensitive events, today announced the availability of government-issued travel advisories through the In-telligent app.

With In-telligent, travel advisories issued by the U.S. and the UK government agencies warning of weather-related and personal safety concerns in countries around the world are delivered to all users that are connected to these Groups. By alerting travelers of potential safety concerns in countries or locations they plan to visit, users have immediate access to government-issued notifications so they can change their travel plans if they choose. Advisories are issued for safety-related issues occurring in a specific country such as severe weather, political unrest, disease outbreaks, and more. Read related news here.

Additionally, with In-telligent's new SOS Button, individuals have immediate, one-touch access to emergency services in the country they are visiting, giving them instant access to help from local first responders. The app also includes contact information for embassies of the U.S., UK, Ireland, Brazil, India, Canada, and France in every country around the world, giving residents from those countries traveling in any foreign location a way to quickly reach their respective embassy if they lose their passport or have another urgent situation.

"In-telligent is a must-have travel tool that keeps people safer and informed while traveling anywhere in the world," said Allan Sutherland, Founder and CEO of In-telligent. "Travel advisories are issued frequently, and yet many people don't have real-time access to the latest information. In-telligent puts this critical information in users' hands immediately, enabling them to change plans if needed, and also gives them a way to instantly reach support or emergency assistance in critical situations. Our biggest concern is keeping people safer no matter where they are. With these features, the In-telligent app is a powerful tool that does just that."

Currently In-telligent offers travel advisories issued by the U.S. and UK governments, and will extend this feature to include countries in the coming months. To receive the U.S. State Department-issued alerts, users must be connected to the applicable travel group for the country they are traveling to (e.g. U.S. Int'l Travel Advisories - Africa). For the UK, all travel alerts for every country are sent through the Int'l Travel Advisories - UK group.

The combination of travel alerts with one-touch emergency and embassy contact information are designed to give In-telligent users greater peace of mind when they need it most. Just by having In-telligent on their phone, users will be prepared for emergencies and critical events with the quick delivery of, access to, and viewing of location-specific alerts – even under the most challenging emergency conditions, no matter where they are in the world. Additionally, In-telligent has thousands of emergency support numbers built right into the platform, giving people access to emergency assistance without having to know the number. Read here.

In-telligent is available on the App and Play Store for everyone, everywhere. Download the app at http://onelink.to/cn5ax9.

Kovels Top 5 Collectible Christmas Decorations

The antiques experts at Kovels.com have listed 5 vintage holiday decorations that are great collectibles. German immigrants brought the tradition of Christmas tree ornaments with them when they settled in America in the 1840s. Old Christmas ornaments are cherished for sentimental reasons and holiday beauty but they may also have monetary value. As you hunt for festive holiday decorations, the Kovels suggests keeping an eye out for these 5 vintage treasures:

Read here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/petplacecom-launches-puppy-diaries.html

1. Blown glass balls and figural ornaments. The most valuable are those made in Germany before 1940. Kugels (meaning "ball" in German) are thick glass handblown balls with a silvery patina that were made in Germany starting about 1830. They sell for the most money. Too heavy to hang on a tree, they were used to decorate other parts of a home. Thinner versions were made after 1855 and used as tree ornaments. After World War I, American makers began mass-producing glass ornaments and these sell for less. Look for those with metal caps marked Shiny-Brite, made from 1937 to 1960. Clever figural glass animals, birds, people, fruit, pine cones, icicles and vehicles are also desirable. Those in rare colors like red or amber are worth more. Click here.

2. "Dresden" ornaments are another favorite. They were made from about 1880 to 1910 in the Leipzig-Dresden area of Germany. They were not made of porcelain as one might think but dampened cardboard that was pressed into complex shapes (not always associated with Christmas), painted, and decorated with gilt, tin, tinsel and other trim. Look for shapes from angels and gnomes to Swiss chalets and zeppelins.

3. Vintage Christmas tree lights are gaining in popularity. Candles had long been used to light up trees, but by the 1880s, electric bulbs were tried but were dangerous. Tree lighting didn't become popular until after 1917, when safety bulbs were invented, and lights were put on strings. Collectors are drawn to midcentury examples like bubble lights (now being made again), candles and large teardrop shapes.

4. Santa is always the star. Collectors look for his likeness on ornaments, candy containers, toys and advertising in materials from cardboard and celluloid to papier-mache and tin. Especially desirable are Coca-Cola ads beginning in 1930 that feature Santa drinking Coke that helped shape America's image of Santa.

5. Newer decorations sure to be collector favorites are those with space-age "sparkle" like aluminum trees and garlands, modern and unique blown glass pieces, non-religious celebrity or event-related items and depictions of Christmas villages or nativity scenes made of wood, cardboard and pottery.

And don't forget the glass pickle! According to popular Christmas tradition, the first person to find the pickle hidden on the tree on Christmas morning will be blessed with good fortune and maybe an extra gift! Happy Holidays from the Kovels!
