Supply chain software developer, Datex, introduced new functionality within its award-winning warehouse management software to save companies time when dealing with packaging configurations. In specific industries including pharmaceutical and apparel, packaging configurations can vary based on the third-party supplier or vendor used.
A source of both frustration and wasted time, warehouse and DC operators as well as 3PLs deal with these annoyances every day. "We have heard about this frustration frequently," commented Michael Armanious, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Datex. "Companies that rely on third party suppliers and vendors tell us that they tend to receive numerous variations on packaging and this wastes considerable time."
Rather than receiving all cases of the same quantity, cases of differing amounts will be produced and sent . In dealing with the variations on the number of goods within the case, warehouse operators are either forced to set up every case level, each with a different unit of measure, create new item codes or even put items on hold until the older product has been depleted and the new product arrives.
To combat this, Datex has launched new Dynamic Packaging functionality within its warehouse management system, Datex FootPrint® WMS. Users simply set up the case within the warehouse management system on the Dynamic Packaging tab and add the case level. In doing so, the WMS will automatically prompt the user upon receiving to validate the quantity per individual case. These cases are then tracked differently within the warehouse management system than are other cases.
"The new Dynamic Packaging functionality is a huge time saver. We have been told that there is nothing like it on the market today," remarked Michael Armanious.
