Manufacturing Leaders Share Success Stories at Georgia Manufacturing Summit

Leaders in the manufacturing industry shared their insights into achieving success at the 5th annual Georgia Manufacturing Summit on Oct. 9 at the Cobb Galleria. Werhner Washington, recently retired plant manager for the Procter and Gamble Albany plant, and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia COO Stuart Countess spoke before a crowd of almost 800 manufacturing insiders.

Washington's career at Procter and Gamble spanned more than 35 years. This year, he led the Albany plant to win the "Manufacturer of the Year" award for Georgia. "It was never our goal to win awards," he said. "It was always our goal to deliver total shareholder returns." Having the right culture is the key to success, he added.

Culture, he explained, is "how the organization really operates," as opposed to how the organization would like to operate. "Culture is what happens every single day."
Among his advice to the manufacturing leaders, Washington said a winning culture includes peer to peer accountability, employee ownership of the core operation, continued learning from other industry leaders, rewarding results instead of activities and creating a servant-leadership structural model. Countess recounted the 10-year history of the Kia Motors Manufacturing plant in Georgia, noting that the West Point, Ga., area did not have a workforce with automotive manufacturing experience. They didn't lack for applicants – approximately 43,000 people applied for the initial 1,000 jobs – but they had to get the workforce trained.
"It takes partnerships," he said, citing the Georgia Quick Start program. KMMG has also worked with the community to create workforce education programs that begin in the elementary schools, up through high school and technical colleges.

KMMG weathered the recession that began soon after they rolled out the first cars in 2008, has added two additional shifts and this year began production on the Telluride, its first vehicle designed for the U.S. consumer and first vehicle to be exported overseas. There is currently a five-month wait list for the Telluride. Click here.

"Kia has completely rebranded and changed it's image," said Countess. "People who had never built a car and came from other industries are now building the number one product. It's quite an accomplishment for Georgia."

The Georgia Manufacturing Summit is a tradeshow produced by the Georgia Manufacturing Alliance (GMA). GMA is a membership-based industry organization founded in 2008 to support Georgia's manufacturing community. GMA provides monthly plant tours, educational sessions, tradeshows, and unique networking opportunities designed to help make profitable business connections for its members. The Georgia Manufacturing Directory, Georgia Manufacturing Summit, Georgia Manufacturing Calendar, and BuyFromGeorgia.com are additional resources produced by GMA. Hispanic Women Share Inspiration, Hope and Resilience at The Inaugural Young Latina Talks

For the first time, Today's Inspired Latina (TIL), an internationally acclaimed book series highlighting the success stories of Latinas, invited several young Hispanic women to speak about their personal experiences on the stage of North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, Illinois.

Shared on Facebook, a worldwide audience met 12 dynamic local high school and college-age speakers who displayed poise, grace and a positive energy. Taking the stage were Evelyn Lozano, Alondra Ivette Guevara, Arianna Urrutia, Gina Aridal Pardino, Giselle Gonzalez, Andrea Vallejo, Samantha Ante, Maria Clara Ospina, Daniela Limon, Yahayra Argueta, Erica Franco and Scarlett Magana.

Jacqueline Camacho-Ruiz, Today's Inspired Latina's creator, beamed with pride and joy as she explained that the event idea came from Elizabeth Colón-Rivera, a TIL author, who suggested that young Latinas do a Latina Talks event of their own after participating in one. Jelena Sánchez, assistant professor of Spanish, Modern Languages at North Central College and another TIL author, also helped Camacho-Ruiz in finding the location for these talks. With the stage set, Camacho-Ruiz immediately started planning.

"When things are aligned, they happen," she said. "I began putting in a lot of 'heart' work—not hard work--to make this happen," she said.

At the event, Colón-Rivera spoke about the powerful emotional impact that she experienced participating during a Latina Talks event. She was impressed by the resilience these presenters displayed.

"You are our next generation," she said. "When I got on that stage and spoke at the Latina Talks, I thought it would be a great idea for the next generation to speak about their own experiences about bullying, respect, self-love, the loss of a parent, owning their power and about pressure. Your stories are impactful. You have an amazing journey ahead of you."

Additionally, the speakers were also vying for two college scholarships: a $1,000 Amazing Young Latina Scholarship and the newly created $500 Latina Leaders Scholarship awarded to a North Central College student. A panel of TIL Authors— Colón-Rivera, Sánchez, Neli Vazquez Rowland, Macarena Tamayo-Calabrese, Jeannette Lurdez Collazo and Tamika Lecheé Morales—chose Urrutia for the Amazing Young Latina Scholarship and Ospina for the Latina Leadership Scholarship.

Urrutia, a North Central College senior who is also expecting her first child, shared an emotional story about the loss of her father as a result of a drug-induced overdose. She explained how many individuals will endure obstacles in their lives but the ultimate factor is how they move forward. Be alert to read related news.

"You are continuously going to be challenged in life and you are continuously going to have to make hard choices," she said. "One of those choices is going to be how you move on (in your life.) Regardless of what happens, you have to move on. You have to keep going forward. You know why? If you don't who is going to pay the bills, secure your future and take care your family. No one. You only have yourself."

Making this event possible were the following sponsors: Metaphrasis, Fig Factor Media Publishing, Conectando Corazones, North Central College, Urban Air Adventure Park, 1 2 3 Got My Job, Ollin Technology and Jeannette Lurdez Collazo.

IPS Productivity Wrx℠ Makes Electronic Posting of Google and Facebook Invoices a Reality for Media and Advertising Agencies

IPS, a leading provider of solutions that digitally transform the accounts payable process end-to-end, announced today that its Productivity Wrx℠ platform is helping the world's leading media and advertising agencies eliminate more than two-thirds of the manual effort associated with processing invoices received via e-mail and other electronic channels. Be alert to read related news.

IPS Productivity Wrx℠ processes more invoices received electronically from Facebook, Google and other digital media companies than any other automated media payables solution in the world. The IPS Productivity Wrx℠ platform not only supports Google and Facebook, but all digital invoices from any publisher or content provider.

Most media and advertising agencies require human operators to manually handle all the invoices they receive from suppliers via e-mail, file transfer protocol (FTP) upload or an online portal. Some media and advertising agencies use e-mail to receive and approve invoices and reconciliation. Relying on e-mail for invoice approval, exceptions resolution and reconciliation provides poor control over the routing of invoices, offers no tracking or visibility into the status of invoices, and requires suppliers to re-submit and revise problematic invoices, such as those with incomplete or inaccurate data.

Posting invoices electronically, without human operator intervention, enables media and advertising agencies to reduce invoice approval costs by more than 50 percent and dramatically accelerate their cycle times. IPS also provides complete transparency across the invoice approval cycle, enabling media and advertising agencies to better monitor and control their working capital and corporate spend.

"Supplier invoices received via e-mail and other electronic channels shouldn't have to be treated as exceptions that require a significant amount of manual effort," said IPS Founder and CEO Greg Bartels. "IPS Productivity Wrx℠ for Media enables media and advertising agencies to post electronic invoices directly to their media, accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, without human operator intervention." Read this here.

IPS uses software "bots" that it developed to automatically retrieve invoices from a supplier portal, e-mail box or FTP site. All physical and electronic invoices are centralized onto the Productivity Wrx℠ platform. Once an invoice is received, IPS Productivity Wrx℠ uses intelligent data capture technology to extract invoice data. Extracted data is validated to guarantee invoice data accuracy of 99.95 percent. Defective invoices – such as those with missing information or an incorrect total – are automatically identified prior to the approval process and digitally routed based on pre-set business rules. An automated process enables suppliers to add or revise invoice data via a collaborative online portal without having to re-submit the invoice. Alternatively, the platform supports an automated revision process for the resubmission of defective and/or revised invoices. All required invoice data as well as the approved invoice is digitally uploaded to the advertising agency's systems. IPS Productivity Wrx℠ tracks all invoices and provides authorized users with real-time visibility into the end-to-end status of each invoice.

About IPS
IPS provides digital solutions that transform business applications such as accounts payable, media and advertising and business process automation. IPS' flagship Productivity Wrx℠ platform makes digital transformation a reality for media and advertising agencies by supporting all media types and combining technologies such as intelligent data capture, robotic process automation, machine learning, business intelligence and mobile with IPS' unmatched expertise and experience in business process automation. Each year, IPS processes more than $100 billion in accounts payable spend and has created over 1 billion digital records over the past decade. IPS enables its clients to reduce costs, significantly accelerate cycle times, improve transparency and enhance customer service.

New survey finds small businesses prefer card payments over cash as new ways to pay enter the marketplace

Mercator Advisory Group's most recent Insight Summary Report, Small Business Payments Acceptance: More Payment Options Creeping In, based on the company's annual Small Business Payments and Banking Survey conducted in spring 2019, reveals that more small businesses are selling online (59%) than are selling in a physical store (47%). However, the bulk of share of sales is coming from in-store sales rather than online sales. Further, about one-third of small businesses (35%) report that they are selling via a mobile app. Small businesses are more likely to report that their preferred method of payment is from the card networks rather than cash or any other method. The primary reason for preferring a certain kind of payment is the ease of handling (65%); only 4 in 10 mention lower cost. Be alert to the latest news.

Small businesses are mainly getting merchant services from their primary bank (70%). A similar proportion are getting merchant services from a single provider. Many third-party providers offer smaller merchants ancillary services they need aside from core processing services, and many businesses are migrating to third-party providers for online and mobile services, often designed for their business verticals.

Payments Acceptance: More Payment Options Creeping In is the second of three reports summarizing the results of the 2019 Small Business Payments and Banking Survey, the fourth annual survey of small businesses fielded by Mercator Advisory Group. This was a web-based survey of 2,002 U.S. small businesses (between $100,000 and $10 million annual sales) regarding their use of payments and banking services.

The survey contained questions on current business sentiment, payment acceptance services, business-to-business (B2B) payments, and banking depository and loan services. Forthcoming companion reports summarize the survey's findings on business-to-business payments and business banking services.

"There is a lot going on in the small business space when it comes to accepting payments, and the options available to merchants can be daunting. There is a great opportunity for companies that can understand the needs of small businesses and help them navigate the uncertainties of the ever-changing payments space," notes the author of this report, Peter Reville, Director, Primary Data Services at Mercator Advisory Group.

Highlights of this Insight Summary Report include:

Companies mentioned are: Alibaba, American Express, Apple, Chase, China UnionPay, Clover, Diebold, Discover, First Data, Google, Ingenico, LevelUp, Mastercard, Micros, NCR, PayPal, PayPal, Revel, Samsung, Shopify, Shopkeep, Square, Stripe, Verifone, Visa, and WeChat

Subscribers to Mercator Advisory Group's 2019 Small Business Payments and Banking Survey have access to these reports as well as survey crosstabs, PowerPoint slides of the report exhibits, and the option of requesting custom queries from the survey data.

Sunrise Hitek Debuts Custom Playing Cards In a Variety of Finishes

Playing Cards from Sunrise Hitek are 100% customizable. Simply provide the artwork and they will do the rest. They can produce a standard playing card deck as well as other more out of the box ideas. Trading cards, flash cards, and game cards are just a few ideas. With in-house digital die-cutting these can also be cut into virtually any shape desired.

After deciding on size and shape there are also various paper stocks and finishes to choose from. In addition to the standard weight stock used for a playing card deck, buyers can choose a heavier weight paper stock, or even add painted edges to their thicker cards! While a standard gloss finish is popular, there is also matte, satin, and spot UV coating which can make a specific logo or photo pop for added depth. Read this for more information.

Another great feature is printing on metallic stock. While a metallic finish is definitely shiny and aesthetically pleasing, it has other added benefits. They can even be used to create special effects or anti-counterfeit measures.. Anything printed with a metallic finish gives an instant wow factor.

One of the best perks to working with Sunrise Hitek is that using an all digital workflow allows for low minimum quantities.
