Supply chain stakeholders use volume pricing rates when they need a spot quote for shipments that don't fit within traditional LTL or truckload parameters. By using this service, customers pay the going rate for the space their freight actually uses, not a previously agreed upon LTL contract price. This volume LTL freight can move on a carrier's backhaul or chronic empty lanes (a benefit for the carriers) and is priced at spot-market rates, which can save shippers money. Wells Fargo Set to Launch eNote Program

Wells Fargo Home Lending has entered into an agreement with eOriginal, a leading digital solution provider for the mortgage industry, to enable the purchase of eNotes through Wells Fargo's correspondent channel, Wells Fargo Funding. The launch of eNote capabilities by Wells Fargo, the nation's leading residential mortgage aggregator, represents a major step forward in the continuing digitization of the mortgage industry.

"Our ability to purchase eNotes is the latest step in our expansion in the digital lending space that broadens our approach to serving consumers and clients as we transform our mortgage business," said Michael DeVito, head of Wells Fargo Home Lending. "We're committed to delivering innovative solutions throughout the mortgage lending process. With eOriginal providing eVault services, we're aligned with a company that has a proven track record in the digital lending community."

An eNote is an electronic version of what traditionally was a paper document. As the evidence of the obligation to repay the mortgage loan, the eNote needs to be stored digitally in a way that ensures it has the same legal enforceability as paper. eOriginal provides this storage capability through its eVault service.

"Lenders transitioning into digital mortgage can move forward knowing a trusted technology partner is aligned with the industry's leading aggregator," said eOriginal CEO Brian Madocks. "This agreement with Wells Fargo facilitates a new, essential outlet for lenders to deliver loans with eNotes into the secondary market. The capability will make digital mortgages accessible to a broad spectrum of lenders who can realize the advantages of going digital, such as increased efficiency and improved execution while also reducing risk."

Wells Fargo will begin purchasing eNotes from a select group of lenders, to be followed by a broader market offering throughout 2019.

This is the second significant digital initiative launched by Wells Fargo Home Lending in 2018. Earlier in the year, Wells Fargo introduced an online mortgage application for its retail origination consumers, which pre-populates existing customer data and helps reduce the time it takes to open and close a mortgage loan application. This online application accounted for 28 percent of retail applications in September.

Aging Consumers Slow Down U.S. Food & Beverage Consumption Making It A Battle for Market Share

While our economy is improving, the aging population and corresponding changes in life stage will contribute to the decline in total eating occasions on a per capita basis in the U.S., according to The NPD Group's recently released Eating Patterns in America. Modest population growth will result in a less than one percent annual increase in total food and beverage demand, which isn't significant enough to stop the decline in consumption occasions per capita.

The number of annual eating occasions per capita in the U.S. has been on a steady decline, reports NPD, which continually tracks all aspects of U.S. consumers' eating attitudes and behaviors. U.S. consumers will average 1410 eating occasions per capita this year, or over 461 billion occasions for the total U.S. population, compared to 1453 occasions in 2009. Read all the related news.

"Food and beverage consumption in the U.S. is perhaps the clearest definition of a 'mature market," says David Portalatin, NPD food industry advisor and author of Eating Patterns in America. "The balance between consumers eating in home or away from home has been stable for the past two years and neither the food retail or foodservice industries are increasing their 'share of stomach.'"

The percentage of meals sourced in home increased gradually from 2002 to 2012 and currently 82 percent of meals are sourced from home, the remaining percentage of meals are sourced away from home. The balance of in home and away from home has been stable since. While both food retail and food service remain flat, there are variations in consumer choices between in home and away from home by daypart and food categories. For example, the share of in-home meals that include a blend of a prepared at home items and prepared away from home item has been steadily increasing and is forecast to grow.

"One thing remains certain: consumers must eat," says Portalatin. "While it's true that finding growth in this market is challenging for food and beverage marketers, those that focus on being meal solutions providers by understanding consumers' needs and wants have the best shot at winning share."
