Independent Pet Partners Presents First Definition of Pet Wellness to Harmonize the Human-Pet Relationship

Independent Pet Partners (IPP), an early-stage company backed by private equity firm TPG Growth and the parent company of four independent pet store brands across 174 locations in 12 states and Washington, D.C., has introduced a proprietary framework for pet wellness to guide pet families in the care and wellbeing of their pets, which is focused on a model of prevention science and overall happiness.

To establish this blueprint of pet wellness, IPP collaborated with the University of Denver's Institute for Human-Animal Connection to apply current research in animals' integrated health needs and their implications for deepening the human-pet bond. For example, the World Health Organization defines "wellness" as the harmony between people, pets and the environment. This served as initial inspiration for IPP and the University of Denver, where research and work has culminated in the development of IPP's 5 Pillars of Pet Wellness: Nourishment, Play, Comfort, Companionship and Purpose.

Each pillar addresses a pet's mind-body connection and will be brought to life through digital spaces and retail stores, as well as masterclasses, training and consultations across each of IPP's brands: Loyal Companion, Chuck & Don's Pet Food and Supplies, Kriser's Natural Pet and Natural Pawz.

"Clearly, the comfort and companionship pets provide has a huge health benefit on people, so we wondered what we could do to improve the health of our pets. Then we discovered a gap in our industry: there was no clear definition of wellness in regard to pets," said Tricia Nichols, Independent Pet Partners Chief Marketing Officer. "As humans, we understand the importance of our personal wellness and that our pets help us live happier, longer lives. We have a responsibility to do the same for them."

The 5 Pillars of Pet Wellness

To ground initial assumptions of the benefits of overall pet wellness in established theoretical and evidence-informed frameworks, IPP worked exclusively with the University of Denver's Institute for Human-Animal Connection, and a trans-disciplinary team of behaviorists, veterinarians and other industry experts. This level of academic inquiry and implementation science was essential to the overall goal of structuring the 5 Pillars of Pet Wellness and incorporating the latest knowledge of the reciprocal benefits of our relationships with pets.

"The relationships with our pets are some of our most important and reliable," said Philip Tedeschi, Clinical Professor at the Graduate School of Social Work and Executive Director of the Institute for Human-Animal Connection at the University of Denver. Turbulent Times: Boeing’s Deliveries Collapse by 57%

This week Stratos Jets analysed the annual aircraft delivery data from Boeing and Airbus.

While Airbus numbers remain consistent, Boeing's deliveries have collapsed more than 57%, Stratos Jets found.

After being in production for more than 20 years, Boeing will halt production of the 737 MAX in January 2020.

This follows two crashes that killed more that 300 people, causing the aircraft to be grounded for more than 9 months due to safety concerns.

Boeing customers have canceled 84 orders since the crisis began.

Airbus is set to deliver more than twice the number of aircraft in 2019 than its rival Boeing.

Boeing sales are down 57% in 2019 compared to 2018.
