“Crystal Mesh” Book Exposes How Vaginal Mesh Makers Created Medical Devices Of Mass Destruction For Profit At The Expense Of Women’s Health And Lives

More than 20 years and billions of dollars in profits since their introduction, medical devices designed to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress-urinary incontinence (SUI) have condemned women worldwide to death or a debilitating life of chronic pain and injury – leaving most victims without recourse and mesh makers with "lessons learned" and no serious consequences.

SHREDDING MESH'S WALL OF SILENCE ABOUT FLAWED DEVICES &
VICTIMS WITH CATASTROPHIC, OFTEN IRREVERSiBLE, INJURIES

In this book, authors Jennifer Banmiller and Alicia Mundy tear down the curtain of secrecy and deceit that enabled device makers to thrive while knowingly mutilating the millions of women who entrusted mesh to help, not harm, them. "Crystal Mesh" raises grave concerns about health care's lack of checks and balances and advises patients to become their own advocates. Be alert to read related news.

"OFF LABEL" SHOULD MEAN "HANDS OFF" UNTIL TESTING

"Crystal Mesh" is a wake-up call. For many years, mesh, which is essentially plastic similar to fishing line, was used in the treatment of hernias. Multinational companies realized they could profit exponentially by commoditizing the vagina and expanding mesh's use to address embarrassing female situations. They positioned a slight drip of urine after laughing as a major issue for childbearing or mature women.

These companies identified a market segment of 13,000,000 baby boomers who would develop incontinence. They then paid medical consultant doctors millions of dollars to promote implantation of mesh worldwide. This brilliant marketing strategy proved immensely profitable by targeting human traits such as insecurity and greed. Click here to read the latest news.

TEFLON DONS IN FIGHT AGAINST MESH

For decades, pharmaceutical and medical device makers have funded and lobbied trusted regulatory agencies, medical associations and lawmakers in order to get their products to market, without randomized clinical trials or pre-market authorization, before their competitors can cash in on "new and improved" versions of products once approved and later recalled by the FDA.

Mesh makers need for speed to market left no time for clinical testing on women, despite warnings of potentially deadly side effects from their internal medical experts – making women victims to untested experimental products and surgeries by unskilled doctors in a culture of profit over people.

Sales representatives for medical device manufacturers persuaded doctors to conduct a 30-minute mesh procedure, that was outside their field of expertise, with false promises of safety and simplicity of technique. They recommended a speedy repetition of insertions as the key to mastering the procedure. No one was ever taught how to remove the mesh.

To this day, there is no protocol to remove mesh. According to Dr. Tom Margolis, "Extirpation of vaginal mesh is akin to taking a hammer and chisel and trying to remove the rebar from a sidewalk while leaving the cement otherwise intact and not damaging the water mains and powerlines below. It is difficult, if not impossible, to remove all the mesh and do it safely."

BIG BULLIES, BAD MEDICINE, BIG PROFITS

Bullying by these same mesh makers forced medical associations, who relied on their money, to omit the word "experimental" from bulletins because experimental procedures are not covered by third-party insurance. They did not share horror stories about mesh from around the globe to any U.S. stakeholders – the FDA, medical associations, doctors and, especially, medical consumers – because this information would "kill" their business.

CASHING IN ON WOMEN'S REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEMS

Women continue to suffer punctured bladders, severed urethras, paralyzation and permanent limps due to nerve damage from the rasp-like vaginal mesh that migrates through vaginal walls to damage surrounding organs. Recently, doctors have also linked autoimmune diseases to mesh. As an added bonus, the penises of many victim's partners were slashed by the eroded mesh. Mesh was not only life-changing; it is life-destroying.

These harrowing stories are the human casualties in the rush for companies to sell medical devices based on flawed predicate products already banned by the FDA.

"Crystal Mesh" documents how greed placed profit over health and turned the essence of a woman into a high-worth commodity ripe to yield mind-altering profits. It also provides examples of how other countries and excellent physicians are helping women -- the veterans left behind in the "gold rush" of mesh. Most importantly, this chilling book reminds buyers to beware and patients to advocate for their own rights. Continue reading.

510(k) GOLDEN LOOPHOLE

During the 1990s, government deregulation was designed to stimulate economic prosperity and fast-track innovative products to consumers. Unfortunately, this climate of deregulation set the stage for major crises in the financial, housing and pharmaceutical industries. In the medical device arena, it created a golden loophole for new products to bypass the 510(k) requirements of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

If a product could be proved "substantially equivalent" to a device that had been previously "approved" by the FDA's Medical Device Office for marketing, the "new and improved" device could go be sold to the public, even if its predicate product was ultimately "banned" for safety reasons.

Clinical testing, usually performed on pigs, rats and human cadavers, was not required for a product that would be permanently implanted (without a procedure developed to extract it) in women seeking help with prolapse or stress urinary incontinence. For most of the women who developed serious complications, there is no way out. For more information, please visit http://www.crystalmesh.com.

American Portfolios Launches BlueDock, a Digital Prospecting Tool for Tying in New Business

American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (AP)—a privately-held, independent broker/dealer that serves financial professionals nationally—is pleased to announce that it has recently launched BlueDock, a practice management prospecting and back office tool for tying in new business.

"It has always been AP's commitment to provide our affiliated investment professionals with value-added services that keep them relevant in a changing marketplace," states AP CEO Lon T. Dolber. "In an electronic age where flexibility and convenience are not the exception, but rather the norm, we're determined to make sure our advisors have the tools and support they need to create scale in their practices in order to better serve investing consumers."

BlueDock is a digital prospecting tool for acquiring new clients and business; it streamlines both practice management and back office functions by engaging prospective and existing clients in the data-gathering process, thereby creating scale in an investment professional's practice to dedicate more time for fostering new client relationships and strengthening existing ones. More info here.

Offering a simple user interface and intuitive functionality, through BlueDock, prospective and existing clients—along with their family members—are invited via e-mail or direct link through the practitioner's Web site to explore and/or review their financial goals using a series of calculators for retirement, college planning, wealth management or purchasing a home. With seamless integration into any practice, BlueDock leverages an investment professional's ability to set the parameters, and adjust or customize the environment with their own business branding. Furthermore, by tailoring the prospecting and engagement process with customized fact-finding instructions that dictate the type and amount of information being gathered, and tracking the progress made through a dashboard, affiliated colleagues determine the point at which a prospect or existing customer may formally take the relationship to the next level; that is the point at which collected data can then be uploaded with the intended purpose of—at the click-of-a-button—establishing a New Account Form (NAF) in AP's STARS business processing system without rekeying the information and begin conducting business.

Attendees of the firm's national annual conference, Connections 2019, were given a sneak peek at the new practice management tool and feedback was extremely positive. BlueDock's engaging presentation resonated with colleagues as a useful application that could prove meaningful in the growth and future of their practices. The firm officially rolled out the initiative to affiliated advisors less than two months later, on Dec. 13. Read here.

Traveling Alone is Scary – Until You Get There: How One Man’s Solo Trek Around the World is Inspiring Single Gen-Xers and Boomers to Get Out There and Explore

In 1933, FDR famously stated, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Chris Hermann, author of "The Youthful Art of Midlife Travel," concurs with FDR's claim stating that when it comes to being fearful, many folks are their own worst enemy. After suddenly losing his wife to cancer, Hermann decided, at the ripe young age of 62, to step outside his comfort zone and embark on a 12-month backpacking adventure around the world. Mr. Hermann went One-on-One with ExpertFlyer.com to share his own fears and how he was able to overcome them, and how solo travel for mature singles can offer a new lease on life for far less than you may think.

"I was living the family dream, including seven grandchildren, but unfortunately, my wife of 40 years suddenly passed away," recalls Chris Hermann, who shared the anxieties that nearly held him back from an amazing solo backpacking trip, during his podcast with ExpertFlyer. "I remember one person telling me, 'Oh, you'll be back in three months.' That type of encouragement certainly didn't make the decision to go for it, any easier."

Hermann gained confidence after trekking through parts of Southeast Asia for a couple of weeks with just a backpack. That's when he realized that most of his fears about solo travel were mostly psychological. For someone who had serious reservations about an adventure of this magnitude, Hermann admits that his preparation was nothing more than the decision to 'wing it' with the hope that the "purpose" of his trip would unfold with each destination and experience.

"In terms of planning, all I had were the three stopovers in Madrid, Panama, and Singapore and nothing planned, but I was aware that the places that I was going to had ex-pat populations," Hermann explains. "There are a lot of Americans and Brits who live in parts of Central America and in Spain, so I knew that socially there would be a segue for me into the local community."

Throughout the interview, Chris Hermann addressed several questions regarding lodging, overall cost of his adventure, and if he ever felt "alone" during his travels. "For lodging, staying in hostels was always my preferred accommodation. They were economical and despite misperceptions, very clean. Most importantly, however, they became a fantastic way to meet others from all over the world, many of whom remain friends today.

"Believe it or not, this year-long trip cost me no more than if I was living at home," Hermann explained. "Of course, the trip can be as expensive and elaborate as you want but traveling on a lower budget will offer a much better cultural experience, which is what I was looking for.

"I never really felt alone, thanks to my Smartphone," Hermann explains with a smile. "I would receive a message from my son, checking in on me and video chats with the grandkids, so in that respect, I had my core support team in the palm of my hand at all times. And I can't stress enough how many wonderful people you meet along the way, so no, I couldn't say that I was lonely or felt alone." Read this here.

Hermann's book, "The Youthful Art of Midlife Travel" shares his travel experiences with others like him, while addressing similar fears and how he found inner strength to overcome those fears. Hermann is now developing an online course to show others how to become independent global travelers by empowering people with the confidence to simply "get out there and do it!"
