Kristin Van Heertum MD Joins Nashville Fertility Center

Nashville Fertility Center (NFC) is proud to announce that Kristin Van Heertum MD will be the latest fertility doctor to join the practice. In addition to treating general infertility, Dr. Van Heertum offers expertise in fertility surgery and treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

The team at NFC looks forward to Dr. Van Heertum joining the practice and believes she is the perfect fit. According to Founder George Hill MD, "We believe that Dr. Van Heertum will be an excellent addition to our practice. Her special training in minimally invasive and robotic fertility surgery combined with her knowledge and compassion will greatly benefit our patients."

Dr. Van Heertum is equally excited about working with NFC to help patients overcome infertility. "When I found Nashville Fertility Center, I was impressed by the team. The partners are so knowledgeable and kind. I realized it's where I want to practice reproductive medicine. I'm looking forward to working with the team to help patients achieve pregnancy," she says.

Kristin Van Heertum MD offers a strong educational background and surgical training.

Dr. Van Heertum earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She then completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health in Abington, Pennsylvania. To round out her training, Dr. Van Heertum completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University. Throughout her training, she published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented her research at a number of national meetings.

During her residency and fellowship, Kristin Van Heertum MD gained a wealth of knowledge about fertility diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, she trained in advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive and robotic fertility surgery. "It's so rewarding to see how the right surgical techniques can help patients overcome fertility challenges," she explains.

A passion for helping her patients overcome infertility

Kristin Van Heertum MD finds that working as a reproductive endocrinologist is incredibly rewarding. "Being a fertility doctor allows me to develop close and meaningful relationships with my patients. It's life-changing work and I feel so blessed to help patients build families."

Providing treatment for PCOS and performing fertility surgery are among Dr. Van Heertum's clinical interests. McAlester Regional Health Center (MRHC) has installed Accutech Security Solutions' Cuddles Infant Protection System. The hospital chose Cuddles because of its extensive, integrated security, efficiency in admitting and discharging babies, improved reporting, and ability to obstruct infant abduction attempts. "We now have a great system in place," said Megan Monks, Obstetrics Nurse Manager at MRHC. "We have no issues, no concerns about it not working correctly. We've already had very positive feedback from parents."

MRHC also selected Cuddles because of its ease of use, the soft and lightweight, self-adjusting band, and top-notch security features. The system installed at MRHC has several alarms in place that are activated in various ways, including if a Cuddles' band loses contact with the child's skin, if an infant tag gets close to any of the department's exit, if someone loiters too long at a door, or if a door is slightly open.

"The system offers a deterrent and helps security officers quickly respond to an abduction attempt and identify any potential threats," said Bryce Segotta, MRHC security officer. "If someone sets a door off, the alarm will light up and tell you where an attempt is happening."

Installation also included integrating the technology to shut down the entire wing in the case of an abduction attempt.

"When an alarm is activated, the entire floor of the hospital is shut down," Monks said. "Until we see what the problem is, and we actually shut the alarm off, you still can't get out."
