Research From Newtriment Store Shows that Consumers View Supplements as a Viable Alternative to Antibiotics as Resistance Rates Soar

Recent news of rising worldwide antibiotic resistance rates seen in New York Times and 60 Minutes raised alarms for women's health in the U.S. With Urinary Tract Infections (U.T.I.s) being the most common bacterial infection, affecting 39 million women in the U.S. every year, ineffective antibiotic use against E. coli, the bacteria that most often contributes to these infections, puts nearly half of the female population at risk of kidney damage - and even death. Be alert to the latest news.

Following Matt Richtel's article on the Antibiotic Crisis, the New York Times was flooded with comments from 600+ women talking about the implications of U.T.I.s, which can be deadly if untreated. Based on national research conducted in February 2019 among 880 women aged 18-70 years, 39 million women get U.T.I.s every year, and 12 million experience recurring infections within that same year. The number rises to over 43 million when including women 70+ years of age. Half of these older women are "asymptomatic," so their U.T.I. remains undiagnosed for too long and they are either deemed to have dementia or end up in the hospital with life-threatening kidney infections.

As an alternative to antibiotic use, early clinical trials show that D-Mannose, the key ingredient in Goodbye UTI, may work better than antibiotics to relieve U.T.I. symptoms and protect the bladder against recurring infections. A recent study of 308 women with a history of recurrent U.T.I.s were evaluated. The group taking D-Mannose did the best in eliminating infection with virtually no side-effects from treatment. Today, two million women are taking supplements containing D-Mannose to support urinary tract health. Within this segment, Goodbye UTI is gaining popularity for its effectiveness in flushing E. coli to from the urethra and bladder. Its all-natural formulation offers an antibiotic alternative, dissolving immediately in water or coffee with no taste or viscosity. Just one spoonful a day has been found effective in preventing U.T.I.s and acting as a first line of home treatment when infections strike.

"The discussion around effective prevention and treatment needs to be broken open, said Goodbye UTI founder, Beth Allan. "We want to let women know that there's an alternative first line of treatment when faced with a U.T.I. that does not require antibiotics. In fact, we feel that antibiotics should be the last resort."

Free Event for Moms of Children with Autism: Southwest Houston's 2nd Annual Mom's Mingle Casino Night

Therapy and Beyond, one of the largest ABA providers across Texas, will present Southwest Houston's 2nd Annual Mom's Mingle for 100+ mothers of children with autism on September 10th, 2019 at Safari Texas Ranch in Houston, TX. Each year, Therapy and Beyond partners with local organizations to throw Mom's Mingles in multiple cities, where 100+ moms of children on the autism spectrum gather to enjoy a night off from their busy schedules. Registration for this popular event opened on Friday, August 9th, and filled up in just a few hours.

About the Mom's Mingles
For this year's Southwest Houston Mingle, Therapy and Beyond has partnered with the nonprofit group Hope for Three to bring the first ever Casino Night Mom's Mingle to the Houston autism community. 100+ moms will enjoy free food, drinks, raffle prizes, casino-themed games, and most importantly, immerse themselves in their local community of women on the same journey as themselves. According to the CDC, about 1 in 59 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). At times, caregivers may find themselves feeling isolated and lost. The Mom's Mingles aim to share resources, connect mothers with their local communities, and give moms a night off to let their hair down. Read this for more information.

Details about this mingle and other free upcoming events are available at http://www.therapyandbeyond.com/events

"Hope For Three is thrilled to partner with Therapy and Beyond for the 2nd Annual Mom's Mingle Casino Night! The evening provides moms with children on the autism spectrum a fabulous night of fun, games, and friendship. Teaming up with community partners who understand the challenges moms face brings new perspectives to the event. The collaboration to create this spectacular night offers moms something they may sometimes seldom receive; laughter, acceptance, fellowship and a place to feel safe & relax! Moms can dress up, or down, gamble, network, win gifts, prizes and share time with others on the same journey." - Hope For Three Be alert to the latest news.

The mingles first began in Dallas in 2013, when Dr. Regina Crone, founder of Therapy and Beyond, had the idea to create a community giveback that didn't focus on a workshop or learning a new skill, but would simply give moms the opportunity to bond and have an amazing night out. The event was so successful that Therapy and Beyond began to establish annual Mom's Mingles in other cities, such as Denver, Oklahoma City and Houston. Click here to read the latest news.

About Therapy and Beyond
Therapy and Beyond was founded in 2006 on the principal that there is hope for every child. Today, they provide 1:1 individualized ABA therapy for individuals on the autism spectrum in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the most commonly prescribed treatment for children on the spectrum, and focuses on expanding functional communication skills, executive functioning skills, and advancing each child's independence. In addition to helping individuals on the spectrum through ABA, one of Therapy and Beyond's goals is to find ways to give back to the autism community as a whole, through free events like the Mom's Mingles.

ONEder Releases Digital Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum to Combat School Bullying

ONEder, a leading EdTech curriculum company, has launched Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum that supports students in dealing with the daily challenges of high school. The curriculum is based on the framework for promoting intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence developed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), covering all five of the SEL competencies they've identified: Responsible decision-making, relationships skills, self-awareness, social awareness, and self-management.

"After having successfully implemented our SEL curriculum with schools in over 20 states, we are proud to announce the official release of the most comprehensive social-emotional learning curriculum for high school students," says Jon Izak, CEO of ONEder. The curriculum takes a blended approach to learning, providing educators with a suite of lesson plans, collaborative student activities, digital instruction, and online assessments. Read related news here.

Research shows that social-emotional learning programs improve classroom behaviors, social wellbeing, and social behaviors. These skills are essential for all students, particularly in light of the high prevalence of bullying in schools. According to a study by the National Center for Education Statistics, twenty percent of students between the ages of 12 to 18 experienced bullying during the 2016-1017 school year.

Educators, principals, and parents across the country are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of integrating SEL learning practices and strategies with schools. Due to the increase in awareness, 18 states have already implemented K-12 SEL competencies and standards in school systems and progress continues to be made nationwide. Schools are now faced with the challenge of implementing SEL programs to meet these standards with limited resources available to educators, particularly at the high school level. ONEder developed its social-emotional learning curriculum to support schools in meeting this challenge. "We, as a district, have been trying to create an SEL curriculum from scratch as there haven't been very many good options available to us. When we saw ONEder, we felt that it really fit with our goals," says Will Dible, Director of School Improvement at Spencer Community School District (Spencer, IA). Read related news now.

ONEder was founded in 2011 with the mission of combining research-based instruction with cutting-edge technology to support educators and their students. The company was initially inspired by Izak's younger brother with autism to support students with disabilities. "Many of the leading methodologies for supporting all students and their unique learning styles have had stemmed from special education practices. Similarly, our expertise in special education has provided us with a unique approach to supporting social-emotional learning for all students," Izak states.

TWAIN Working Group Releases Next Generation Image Acquisition Technology - TWAIN Direct™

The TWAIN Working Group (TWG), a not-for-profit organization designed to provide and foster an open source, public standard for image acquisition devices and software applications, will be showcasing its public release of its TWAIN Direct specifications at the Harvey Spencer Associates Capture 2019 conference in Glen Cove, New York on September 4th & 5th. TWAIN Direct is designed to provide application vendors with a simplified and universal approach to directly integrate and support any model document scanner via client or web-based application, regardless of its operating system. TWAIN Direct eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming hardware regression testing and limited operating system support of vendor provided drivers and API.

The TWAIN Working group has created specification documents and sample code for multiple platforms to help expedite the development of applications accessing scanners via a local area network or via the cloud. TWAIN Direct addresses the need for something simple, allowing developers to deliver a feature-rich end user experience regardless of equipment being used, by supporting direct network communications between the application and scanning device which can be operated via mobile or desktop application through a web browser.

Historically, application developers had to decide which Image Capture API to use (e.g., TWAIN, WIA, ISIS, SANE, ICA, etc.) in order to acquire images to an application. This decision was primarily influenced by the hardware OEM's available APIs and customer's desired product, which presented challenges for developers as most APIs were limited to specific operating systems. TWAIN Direct is a simple develop once, support all technology, and allows for true plug and play functionality, eliminating a complicated installation processes. Click here.

TWAIN Direct is also designed to support any TWAIN Direct enabled scanner or legacy TWAIN based USB device using the TWAIN Direct Bridge application or Side Car solution. These available options are designed to support existing TWAIN driver-based devices without having to purchase hardware to support the TWAIN Direct protocol.

TWAIN Direct is designed to minimize the coding requirements to integrate fully-featured image capture solutions within their applications. It also reduces development time from weeks to days, supports modern programming languages, and allows application developers full control of the actual user experience with a feature set best suited for their document management application.

One of the great features included in the new TWAIN Direct Specification is PDF/raster, which provides a new image-only file format that provides many advanced features not currently supported by TIFF image format. PDF Raster is designed to be efficient to implement on any scanner and can be compiled into complete documents using any modern-day PDF Library while being 100% compatible with any PDF reader or PDF supported application.

"TWAIN Direct is unlike any Image Capture API available to application developers before," says Jon Harju, Chair of the TWAIN Working Group. "This allows developers to write to one driver for different scanner manufacturers' products and to use the operating system of their preference whether it be Windows, Mac, Linux or even mobile applications." Be alert to the latest news.
