Attentive raises $40 million Series B investment led by Sequoia

Attentive, a personalized mobile messaging SaaS platform for brands, announced today that it has raised a $40 million Series B investment. The round was led by Sequoia with participation from existing investors Bain Capital Ventures, Eniac Ventures and NextView Ventures, and new investors IVP and High Alpha.

"CRM is changing. Businesses can't build a relationship with the modern consumer through email alone," said Brian Long, Co-Founder & CEO of Attentive. "Email performance, as measured by how many subscribers click-through on a message, is down 45% over the last five years. Rather than continuing to shout one-way messages at consumers, smart brands will stay relevant by embracing personalized, real-time, two-way communication channels."

Today's consumers spend more time than ever on their mobile devices—and the overwhelming majority of that time is spent within messaging apps. Attentive is leading the way in making mobile messaging a highly profitable revenue channel and the new center of customer relationship management for brands.

Attentive works with over 400 innovative retail brands such as Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Coach, CB2, and Jack in the Box—and has experienced 8x customer growth in one year. With Attentive, mobile messaging can quickly become a top three digital revenue channel, regularly outperforming email marketing in terms of click-through rates and revenue driven per subscriber. Read this for more information.

The company's name, "Attentive," is a testament to its mission—to build a communications channel that is thoughtful, authentic, and addresses the needs of both brands and consumers equally. Consumers opt-in to engage directly with their favorite businesses through personalized interactions at each step of the customer lifecycle.

"As people increasingly use messaging as a primary form of communication, businesses will too," said Pat Grady, partner at Sequoia. "With their mobile messaging platform, Attentive is leading a new category of direct-to-consumer marketing that we believe has huge market potential. We're thrilled to partner with the entire team as they grow and provide brands with modern, effective tools to better engage with customers."

Attentive was founded in 2016 by the team behind TapCommerce, the global leader in mobile app retargeting, which was acquired by Twitter in 2014. The company has experienced 250% employee growth in just one year—expanding its headquarters in New York City while establishing team members in Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, and Atlanta.

Further, it collapses reporting times and enhances performance measurement so that local TV and radio buying more closely tracks the standards of programmatic digital.

Entercom is the first broadcast partner to leverage Hudson MX's AgencyCloud™ to help bolster profitability while enhancing results for marketers and brands. Hudson MX and Entercom are working together across Entercom's technology stack to enable system-to-system communication, workflow automation, and yield optimization. Read this here.

"Radio was the first medium to offer content in real time and it remains an absolutely vital part of the media landscape," said JT Batson, CEO of Hudson MX. "Ninety three percent of Americans listen to radio weekly and station loyalty remains strong. And while its place in our culture is unquestioned, radio's ability to compete for advertising dollars has been hindered by a lack of modern software. By making the move beyond legacy systems, Entercom is helping our country's biggest brands capitalize on the full potential of radio in real time."

"Entercom has been focused on supply-side innovation and we are pleased to partner with Hudson MX in transforming the buy side of radio," said Weezie Kramer, Chief Operating Officer of Entercom. "We're excited to be their first radio partner and offer agency partners greater speed, accuracy and transparency. It makes radio easier and faster to buy—putting us at the forefront with other forms of media."

Hudson MX's proprietary BuyerAssist™ complements the skillset, market expertise, and institutional knowledge of local media buyers, empowering them to deliver superior client results in record time. Already, BuyerAssist™ is being used by the world's largest agencies to streamline their local media buying processes and enhance results for brands.

With Entercom's integration, BuyerAssist™ allows agencies to query proposals with detailed and specific KPIs and search Entercom's robust portfolio of over 235 highly rated radio stations. BuyerAssist™ generates custom proposals attuned to each campaign's needs. BuyerAssist™ also has the ability to optimize data and course correct to ensure that campaign commitments are fulfilled. Reporting is within 24 hours, greatly expediting current industry norms.

"BuyerAssist™ has automated certain processes that allow our teams to transact local buys more efficiently," said Jennifer Hungerbuhler, EVP & MD of Local Audio and Video at Dentsu Aegis Network. "We will continue to push for efficiencies that deliver incremental value to our clients, including a fully automated transactional process, the capability to layer in first party data, greater transparency into campaign management, as well as the ability to fluidly move dollars between digital and linear broadcasting. The Hudson MX platform is a one-stop shop for our local buyers, helping to achieve greater efficiencies throughout the local investment process. Immediate access to available inventory has enabled more efficient negotiations, and the ability to optimize schedules and access real time campaign performance reporting ultimately enables us to deliver better buys on behalf of our clients." Looking at Family Structure and the Black Man’s Relevance

Donald Morton is rarely quiet. He is as renowned for his opinions as for his innovative social solutions, especially as they impact African Americans. He is also a celebrated pastor, gifted spiritual leader, husband and dad to six children.

Through his latest initiative, the "ReManned Project," Morton is drawing upon his own failing – and redemption – to challenge fellow black men who are ostensibly disconnected from their personal and domestic responsibilities. "These young men are becoming fathers before they are men," says Morton. "We have to change the paradigm. They need to know, believe and appreciate that they bring enormous value as men to hearth and home"

The ReManned Project

Morton started the ReManned Project after a personal journey that left him and loved ones humiliated and disappointed. "I reneged on a personal vow and the outcome was painful for those I care about. I was not the man I should have been, could have been. It was time to change."

Morton points out that 75 percent of African American households in the United States are without a male head-of-household, compared to 35 percent of white homes. "Men are missing or malfunctioning," says Morton. "They are not present in the lives of their relationships, their families. We have outsourced raising our men to schools, gangs, prisons. There are so many single mothers raising sons, and these men grow up to view manhood through the lens of a single mom, fused with whatever experiences they have captured by just being a black male in this country." Click here.

The ReManned Project is a movement focused on reconstructing authentic manhood. "Authentic means exactly that," he says, "True, reliable, dependable, faithful and trustworthy. How many people can say that about their man?"

Morton's ReManned initiative is about guiding men to salvage themselves in three progressive phases:

"This all has to be done in close alignment with God," says Morton. "A man who consistently demonstrates accountability to God and responsibility for himself, his family and his society is a man ReManned."

A personal approach to a systemic problem

Morton and many other influential leaders see a system – such as social support programs that disqualify households that have a dad in the home – that institutionalizes the weakening of the black family. Morton says policies that deliberately exclude men from the family created a "learned helplessness: men are not getting up and overcoming obstacles because they have no one showing them.

Be alert to read related news.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/us-lead-network-now-offering.html

Morton continues, "Accountable black men are necessary, and we need to step up and become relevant again. The idea that 'my man won't be around, so I am going to create a world in which my son doesn't need him' is common. And powerfully nullifying."

ReManning the man

The ReManned Project counters that by targeting young black men, says Morton. "They are marginalized and need to participate in reinserting themselves into their families. We must help men recognize that they get everything other than what they really want, which is to be held accountable for a role that really matters, a father, husband, fiancé…."

Morton acknowledges that the idea of family now has many faces, and each must find "its own order." But, traditional or non-traditional, he believes there is always room for a man to participate and share the joys and battles of raising a family.

"Here's what we know," says Morton. "Men are innately wired for challenge. They want rules. And consequences. Without an in-home structure and mentorship, they gravitate towards gangs and other cluster communities. Religion is depicted too passively to keep their interest. We must do things differently if we want to see our young black men change.

Measuring success

How do you measure success with a program like this? "It is uncomplicated," Morton says. "The demonstrations of a changed lifestyle, with support from wives, girlfriends and other family members, is proof enough." Read this for more information.

Participants speak highly of the ReManned Project and were enthusiastic about sharing their experiences.

"The ReManned Project changed our lives," says CC. " The program taught me the definition and purpose of Manhood. I now value my wife and children in ways I didn't before. I had to take responsibility for my life and that of my family. The course correction has been hard but worth it."

Says TE, "The ReManned Project has reinforced in me the importance of my purpose as a man is to God, my family, and society. With having 4 children I will show by example to my sons how a man is to conduct himself in a Godly matter. And for my daughters they will know what kind of man to look for because I will be their greatest example!"

How do women feel about the Remanned Project?

Black women we spoke to generally favor the ReManned Project, while their white counterparts did not entirely grasp the goal of the movement. That doesn't surprise Morton. "Black women have had to endure decades of absent and irresponsible fathers of their children and their own fathers, boyfriends and husbands. They, in their own words, are tired of having to bear the full weight and responsibility of children and family. It doesn't work. It is not fair. White women are less impacted by absentee fathers and husbands."

Read this here.:

TD, the wife of a ReManned man shared this, " I am honored to be connected to Dr. Morton and to see the expression of manhood being played out in my husband's life. He's finally getting what he needs and honestly, it has made my family better.."

"Men really do want to do better; they just don't have the tools," says Morton. "The ReManned Project provides the help they need."

Investments & Wealth Institute 2019 Member Profile Reveals Pivot to Holistic Wealth Planning

New findings from a joint survey issued by Investments & Wealth Institute® (formerly IMCA) and Cerulli Associates show that Investments & Wealth Institute member advisors are shifting their services to provide holistic advice.

Institute members are transforming their business models. Ten years ago, fewer than one in five Institute advisors operated in one of the independent advisory channels. Today, 45% of Institute advisor members are independent, either working in an independent RIA firm (23%), in an independent broker/dealer firm (9%), or in a dually registered or hybrid firm (13%). In parallel, members are nearly twice as likely to report operating in a primarily fee-based practice relative to the industry average (62% vs. 38%, respectively). By 2020, members expect brokerage assets to make up just 10% of their client assets.

The survey also found that Institute members place an emphasis on holistic advice, with more than three-quarters (78%) of their clients receiving comprehensive or targeted financial planning advice. This is 10 percentage points higher than other industry advisors and is projected to rise another 7% by 2020.

Institute members are more likely than their peers to provide investment management due diligence. Members are also more likely to offer advanced financial planning services such as intergenerational planning, charitable planning, and trust services.
Due to the advanced education they receive through Institute offerings, member advisors are more confident in offering advanced financial planning and sophisticated investment solutions to their high-net-worth clients. For example, the survey found investment products such as hedge funds, options, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and real estate investment trusts more likely to be offered to an Institute advisor's client than the average advisor's client. Clients served by Institute members benefit from additional diversity in investment choice and performance.

"Advisors come to the Institute to expand their knowledge and skills to better serve existing and future clients," said Sean R. Walters, CAE, chief executive officer, Investments & Wealth Institute. "Our unique blend of Ivy-League-quality education with practical application helps advisors deliver on that value every day."

This survey was based on data Cerulli Associates collected from members of the Investments & Wealth Institute. Today, the Institute serves more than 12,700 members and certificants, up 20% since 2016. Cerulli found the Institute's membership is made up of professionals from across the wealth management marketplace who provide investment consulting, financial planning, and wealth management services to retail clients, high-net-worth clients, and institutional clients. Almost 40% of Institute advisors serve a core market of households with more than $2 million in investable assets, and the average assets under management for Institute members is four times greater than the average advisor.

Wallarm Builds On Its Security Test Automation Framework

From DevOps World / Jenkins World, Wallarm has released an expanded set of vulnerability detects for its proprietary Framework for Application Security Testing (FAST)

The latest release of Wallarm's FAST responds to the newest threats facing developers and security teams. The latest generation of threats circulating have further-reaching implications than before due to increases in surface expose in infrastrucutres and online businesses. FAST puts security testing automation inside CI/CD processes. Once defined, the fully automated, integrated test process uses existing functional tests and application-specific fuzzing to create security tests and optimize testing time. The FAST framework is easily integrated into any CI/CD platform. For Jenkins, there is a specific plug-in.

Codeless detect generation is another unique feature of the framework. Without coding, detects specific to vulnerabilities and application logic are defined using Detect Specific Language (DSL) based on YAML.

More info here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/canine-camp-getaway-of-ny-dog-vacation.html

YAML definitions for new detects are pulled from Github.

"Codeless extensions to automate custom logic allow FAST users to implement their own security ideas faster. At the same time, it allows us as a vendor to improve the software in an agile way." - Ivan Novikov, Wallarm CEO

Similar to the issue exploited in the 2017 Equifax breach, recently released detects include remote code execution and path traversal issues in Apache Struts Framework. When these detects are used in FAST to automate security testing, these types of vulnerabilities can be found at the testing stage and avoid dangerous issues in production.

Exploits in the latest batch include:

Ability to execute arbitrary commands via a crafted Content-Type, Content-Disposition, or Content-Length HTTP header

Remote Code Execution via a maliciously-formed message to ActionMessage in Struts 1 plugin

Potential RCE attack if Freemarketer tag is misformed

Potential RCE with certain namespace configurations when alwaysSelectFullNamespace is set to true

A potential issue with XML deserialization in the Apache Struts REST Plugin, which can lead to a Remote Code Execution

Even development tools are subject to potential vulnerabilities. Other recently released detects can find these types of vulnerabilities hidden in dev tools, like a server-side template injection in JIRA allowing unauthenticated code execution (CVE-2017-7525) and a detect of a user information leak /user/(username)/api remote API in earlier versions of Jenkins (CVE-2017-1000395)

About Wallarm
Wallarm platform protects websites, microservices, and APIs throughout the application life-cycle. Security and DevOps teams choose Wallarm FAST to automate security testing inside CI/CD pipeline, increase visibility into hacking attempts, and detect and remediate OWASP Top10.

The technology provides dynamic, active, and focused security for hundreds of enterprises and SaaS companies operating in public, hybrid, and private clouds.

Founded in 2013, Wallarm is headquartered in San Francisco, California. It is backed by Toba Capital, Y Сombinator, Partech, Runa Capital, and other investors.

It Wasn’t My Fault - New Study Looks At Why People Hate Admitting Mistakes

The dozen or so publishing companies who turned down J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series have probably kicked themselves quite a few times by now for not jumping on the opportunity. Same goes for NASA after taping over the original recording of the moon landing, as well as any former would-be conquerors who thought invading Russia during winter was a smart war tactic. Would anyone willingly take responsibility for these catastrophic boo-boos? Probably not. According to research from PsychTests, admitting mistakes isn't easy for a lot of people, and not just because they're afraid of the potential consequences.

Analyzing data from 4,727 people who took the Self-Esteem Test, PsychTests' researchers compared two groups: Those who will acknowledge when they've messed up and those who will not. Here's how they compared: Continue reading.

PEOPLE WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE ADMITTING MISTAKES HATE TO FEEL AND LOOK WEAK

PEOPLE WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE ADMITTING MISTAKES TEND TO HAVE DEEP-SEATED INSECURITIES

PEOPLE WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE ADMITTING MISTAKES TEND TO HAVE AN EXTREME NEED FOR APPROVAL FROM OTHERS

PEOPLE WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE ADMITTING MISTAKES TEND TO BE PERFECTIONISTS

PEOPLE WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE ADMITTING MISTAKES WILL GO ON THE OFFENSIVE IF SOMEONE POINTS OUT THEIR ERRORS

"When a person makes a mistake, they may try to cover it up or place blame elsewhere - and while that seems quite underhanded and unfair, it is often motivated by fear and insecurity," explains Dr. Jerabek, president of PsychTests. "It could be a fear of the consequences, of getting into trouble, or of losing face. Mistakes are embarrassing reminders that we're not perfect, but they are also valuable learning opportunities. If you're willing to acknowledge your mistake, learn why it happened and how to fix it, you're less likely to commit the same error again. Moreover, admitting when you're wrong takes guts, and that's something to be admired. That is why people in our study who are comfortable showing this type of vulnerability also have high self-esteem. Our mistakes do not make us weak, they make us wiser and more resilient. Every mistake and every failure is a lesson to be learned. The best approach is to milk it for information, and then let it go." Read all the latest news.
