Tick Tubes are An Eco-Friendly Alternative to Tick Control and Homeowners Can Protect their Properties with tips from Giroud Tree and Lawn

Ticks have woken up from their winter slumber and they're ready to start feasting and multiplying! Last year, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) reported that illnesses and diseases from these pesky insects have tripled in the United States in the last decade! This alarming study also highlighted new tick-borne diseases, such as Alpha-Gal syndrome. Everyone should perform self-checks for ticks after being outside. But there are also some great preventative steps homeowners can take to greatly reduce the tick population on properties. Many insect control companies offer a wide variety of tick control options, including both organic and traditional sprays. However, some homeowners prefer no-spray options or want to supplement spray programs with additional control. The insect experts at Giroud Tree and Lawn explain how Tick Tubes are an Eco-friendly option for tick control!

Insects on the Rise

There are a lot of reasons why we are seeing an increase in insect-transmitted diseases and illnesses.

1.    Warming climate trends lead to longer insect seasons, giving bugs more time to multiply.
2.    People are traveling more! With increased travel, throughout the United States and abroad, comes new viruses and diseases being carried to places not normally seen before.
3.    Animals and shipping materials transported from one country to another often spread insects.
4.    The ability for the local and state health departments to respond is still catching up with the drastic increase! "The US is not fully prepared," the CDC explains. "More proven and publicly accepted mosquito and tick control methods are needed to prevent and control these diseases." Read news here.

Homeowners can take steps now to greatly reduce the number of ticks on properties.

Tick Tubes

Many homeowners don't like to think about mice on the property, but the reality is mice are everywhere. They're building their nests in hidden, unnoticed places. Mice will gather soft materials to build their nests, like leaves and brush. They'll even tear apart fibrous materials like cardboard and paper sitting outside in recycling bins and bring the bits back to their nests.

Damminix Tick Tubes are small cardboard tubes filled with cotton balls that are treated with a product called Permethrin. Mice pull the cotton balls out of the tubes and use them to build their nests. The Permethrin rubs off on the mice, and the ticks are killed when they latch on and feed off of the mice. Giroud Tree and Lawn Expert, Rodney Stahl, explains the process in Giroud's informative video.

Permethrin is safe for mice and any other animals, such as dogs and cats. In fact, this process is much like the flea medication that is applied behind the ears of dogs and cats. Plus, Damminix Tick Tubes are EPA approved and biodegradable, so they are environmentally friendly!

A Tick Control Expert should do a full assessment of the property to determine where mice are likely to search for nesting materials. Then, the expert should strategically install the tick tubes in discreet locations. In time, homeowners can expect to see a vast reduction in the amount of ticks on the property using the tick tubes.

Organic and Traditional Tick Control Sprays

If homeowners are interested in spray options, both organic and traditional spray programs are available. A tick control experts will target the "Hot Spots" around the property where ticks love to hide. Then, treat the perimeter of the yard, killing the pests on contact and the residual will continue to repel ticks for several weeks.

Perimeter Clean-Up

Giroud also recommends pruning back branches to let more sunlight down on the lawn because ticks love to hide in shady spots. Cleaning up debris and brush where ticks hide and breed will also decrease the amount of these insects on the property.

Inspirational and Entertaining New Fictional Narrative ‘Two Roses’ is Released

Life experience has been the greatest teacher and motivational impetus for author Mazen Kharboutli's writing. In "Two Roses," his first work of fiction for adults, Kharboutli presents an entertaining and inspirational fictional narrative based on truth. Through the protagonist, Kharboutli demonstrates the power of the human heart to stumble, rise, release the past, forgive, heal and ultimately confront the power of self-awareness.

The word "love" has a multitude of definitions, but to protagonist Daniel Bouchard, the term was synonymous with loss. Early on, the boy experienced hardships that left him bewildered and lost in a world that he did not understand – a universe that robbed him of the people whom he most cherished. The burning questions in his young life became, "what is love?" and "do we exist merely to struggle?"

The answer to these existential inquiries found resolution in one person who, Daniel believed, was the love of his life. However, due to unknown circumstances, she vanished without a word of explanation. For over two decades, he searched for reasons and eventually through a series of astonishing coincidences, he came full circle and gained renewed perspective. Readers will journey into Daniel's world which will ultimately help them to encounter their own truth.

"The story is based on my life, the people I've encountered and the many lessons I've learned as a result," said Kharboutli. "I want readers to use my experiences and personal struggles as examples to serve as inspiration for those who have or currently are going through similar circumstances. If you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel, light up your side, and someone will notice."

"Two Roses" has already been receiving positive praises from reviewers:

"Mazen Kharboutli presents a read-worthy narrative, which I found enjoyable. Intelligently written…I recommend this book, it was a journey through the human condition that was well worth taking a seat to." – Pacific Book Review

"In a book full of drama, love, and life, Kharboutli paints a picture a lot of readers can relate to. This emotionally charged novel doesn't shy away from the stages of love and loss. It's one that will leave readers yearning for that happy ending for Daniel and holding onto their seats in anticipation for how things turn out for him and his family." – The US Review of Books

Silanna Semiconductor Expands Line of Fully Integrated Active Clamp Flyback Controllers with 60W Version

Silanna Semiconductor today expanded its line of fully integrated active clamp flyback (ACF) controllers with the 60W SZ1105 Flyback PWM Controller. Like its 30W SZ1101 sibling, Silanna's SZ1105 60W controller combines four key ACF components: an advanced adaptive digital ACF controller and three ultra-high-voltage (UHV) components – an active clamp MOSFET, an active clamp FET driver and a startup voltage regulator. This unprecedented level of integration facilitates designing efficient, high-power-density AC/DC power adapters with low bill-of-material (BOM) cost. The 30W version is suited for designing mobile phone travel adapters, while the 60W version is suited for designing slim and compact adapters for powering notebooks, video game consoles and multi-port wall chargers.

High-power-density capabilities help designers overcome the thermal challenges of packing ever-increasing amounts of power into the small-form-factor power adapters that consumers have come to expect that also remain cool to the touch. High efficiency, or reducing power loss, is key to achieving the power density without overheating the adapter's case. With an easy-to-use simple flyback controller and an all-silicon design, Silanna's SZ1105 delivers over 93% efficiency at 20V/3A, and over 20W/in3 power density at full 60W output power, while using an industry-standard, avalanche-rated silicon MOSFET main switch.

SZ1105 combines design simplicity of traditional flyback with efficiency and power density of ACF:
Silanna's integrated circuit overcomes the traditional complexities of designing with ACF controllers. It eliminates the need for a tight tolerance for the clamp capacitor and leakage inductance. Instead, Silanna's proprietary OptiModeTM adaptive digital control technology precisely manages the critical on/off timing of the active clamp FET based on system operating conditions.

By replacing the traditional RCD snubber with a clamp capacitor and an integrated active clamp MOSFET, the SZ1105 delivers lossless recycling of leakage energy to the output. Precise control of the active clamp circuit delivers near-zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for further efficiency improvements. Additional features include optimal valley mode switching, tight switching frequency control, and intelligent switching frequency handling, all of which result in higher efficiency, a reduced main switch voltage rating, and appreciable attenuation of common-mode EMI noise.

The SZ1105 reduces BOM cost not only by integrating the ACF circuit, but also by enabling designers to use a lower-cost transformer, SR FET, clamp capacitor and input filter.

Availability:
Featuring the industry-standard 16-pin SOIC package, a latched version (SZ1105-01) is available immediately for sampling, and a hiccup mode version will be available later in Q2. 10K-piece pricing is still to be determined. A 60-W USB-PD Evaluation board using the SZ1105 will be available shortly.
