Physicians for Informed Consent to Host Workshop & Luncheon in Southern California

The nonprofit educational organization, Physicians for Informed Consent (PIC), has opened registration for the PIC Workshop & Luncheon. Scheduled for March 17, 2019, at the Hilton Orange County in Costa Mesa, California, the event will focus on medical ethics, mandatory vaccination, and public health law.

"PIC was founded in 2015 in response to SB277, the California mandatory vaccination law which eliminated the right to informed consent for parents of children who attend private and public schools," said Dr. Shira Miller, PIC founder and president. "Since our inception, we have received an outpouring of support from doctors, scientists and attorneys—from California to New York and abroad—who oppose mandatory vaccination laws. Like the PIC Inaugural Meeting & Luncheon, this event will again unite our fellow colleagues in an educational think-tank environment."

As part of a full day of scientific and legal sessions, the PIC Workshop & Luncheon will include a lecture by Professor Peter C. Gøtzsche entitled "How Mandatory Vaccination Violates Medical Ethics." Professor Gøtzsche is a physician and specialist in internal medicine; the founder and former director of Nordic Cochrane Center, Copenhagen, Denmark; and cofounder of the Cochrane Collaboration. He has published more than 70 papers in "the big five" (BMJ, Lancet, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, and New England Journal of Medicine), and his scientific works have been cited more than 40,000 times. Lectures and workgroups will be aimed at safeguarding informed consent and protecting at-risk children from vaccine injuries. "Best Practices for Physicians Recommending a Medical Exemption to Vaccination" will be taught by Dr. Toni Bark and Greg Glaser, PIC's pro bono general counsel and national coalition director, and "Vaccine Case Law and Precedent in the United States" will be presented by leading U.S. attorneys Mary Holland, Jacques Simon, Greg Glaser, Richard Jaffe, Brad Hakala and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Mr. Kennedy will also lecture on "Mandatory Vaccines & Public Health."

Vaccine injury is a public health problem. In 1986, in reaction to mounting lawsuits from severe vaccine injuries, the U.S. government instituted the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) and removed liability for vaccine injuries or deaths from vaccine manufacturers and healthcare workers. Since then, every dose of a childhood vaccine has been charged an excise tax to fund the Vaccine Injury Compensation Trust Fund for the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. To date, $4,060,857,713.42 has been paid out for cases of severe vaccine injury or death—to only a small fraction of petitioners.

"When a parent is coerced into consenting for the vaccination of his or her child, he or she is not granting informed consent but rather coerced consent," said Dr. Miller. "Not only is that unethical, but it's also not evidence-based." Be alert to the latest news.

Re-Introducing Sin Cigüeña Surrogacy Options for Spanish-Speaking couples

Sin Cigüeña is back. After nearly a year in redevelopment, the consultancy is happy to announce its updated service for Spanish language couples. Sin Cigueña will provide surrogacy advice and management for childless couples in South America and Spain.

The service will be managed by consultants in Buenos Aires and Barcelona. Their goal is to help all loving couples find safe, legal and affordable solutions to start their own families.

Most Owners Still in Love with Their Three-Year-Old Vehicles, J.D. Power Finds

It's a continuing love story for most owners and their vehicles as overall dependability for three-year-old vehicles improves 4% from last year, according to the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS), released today.

"Vehicle dependability continues to improve, but I wouldn't say that everything is rosy," said Dave Sargent, Vice President of Global Automotive at J.D. Power. "Vehicles are more reliable than ever, but automakers are wrestling with problems such as voice recognition, transmission shifts and battery failures. Flawless dependability is a determining factor in whether customers remain loyal to a brand, so manufacturers need to help customers who are currently experiencing vehicle problems and address these trouble spots on future models."

The study, now in its 30th year, measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old model-year vehicles. The 2019 study measures problems in model year 2016 vehicles. A lower score reflects higher quality, and the study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories.

Highest-Ranked Brands

Lexus ranks highest in overall vehicle dependability among all brands, with a score of 106 PP100. This is the eighth consecutive year Lexus ranks highest. Porsche and Toyota rank second in a tie with 108 PP100 each. Chevrolet and Buick round out the top five.

Chrysler is the most-improved brand, with a reduction of 65 PP100 since 2018. Other brands with strong gains include MINI (improvement of 34 PP100) and Subaru (improvement of 31 PP100).

General Motors Company receives five segment awards for the Buick LaCrosse, Buick Verano, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Silverado HD and Chevrolet Sonic.

Toyota Motor Corporation receives four segment awards for the Lexus ES, Lexus GX, Toyota Camry and Toyota Tundra.

J.D. Power analysis shows that vehicle residual values can be significantly affected by long-term quality.

"The used-vehicle market is where dealers can see increased profits this year," said Jonathan Banks, Vice President of Vehicle Analysis and Analytics at J.D. Power. "Stocking dealership lots with vehicles having strong dependability scores will help support new-vehicle sales in the future, create a positive brand perception and drive foot traffic."

The 2019 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study is based on responses from 32,952 original owners of 2016 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. The study was fielded in October-December 2018.
