Computer Recycling in Canada for a Good Cause, Helping Charities and Non Profits

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) announces a donation of over 500 laptops, computers, printers and cell phones to individuals in need this Giving Tuesday. Every year this non-profit aims to donate more equipment than the last. This year they have succeeded with their donations totalling to 547 devices, a 50% increase from 2017.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. ERA is proud to be part of this initiative and aims to connect businesses and organizations within the community through their donation activities.

The ERA has teamed up with advocates looking to pursue change within the community. Shell Canada, PrinterWorks West Inc. and Alberta's Promise worked in conjunction with ERA to assist with this donation. Twenty Seven do-gooder organizations Canada wide will receive a donation of technology in areas such as Vancouver, Fort St. John, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.

A donation recipient explains, "This donation is a need, not a want and working with companies and organizations like ERA and Shell Canada who give back to the community is so empowering. Knowing that charitable organizations have a voice in the community through these types of channels is fantastic."

"We are ecstatic to work with members of the community who care about our environment and the wellbeing of others. Every year for Giving Tuesday our team at ERA try to outdo themselves by donating that little bit more than the previous year," says Bojan Paduh, President at the ERA.

"This year we dramatically increased the quantity of equipment being donated, which is outstanding. This could not have been possible if it was not for our dedicated partners, we thank you."

Speaking with Jonathan Ceaser, Founder of PrinterWorks West he mentions, "We are extremely excited to be partnering with ERA for Giving Tuesday and look forward to working with their team to help bring our services and expertise to local non-profits in need." Susan Whitley, External Relations Manager for Shell Canada says, "This initiative is one of the ways that Shell Canada contributes to well-being and sustainability of local communities. Shell works with ERA to identify those communities and organizations where the need is the greatest, to enable access to resources that build and strengthen the capacity of schools, service organizations and Indigenous communities.

"Repurposing these items means extending the useful life of the product or device, less electronic waste, and the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life."

Chatspin Launches Video Chat AR Face Filters On Desktop In World First

Chatspin, a popular mobile and desktop app which connects strangers randomly via video chat, is set to launch the world's first AR face filters for the world wide web. The hugely popular filters are currently found across countless apps on the Apple and Google Play stores but are yet to find their way onto web browser chat platforms until now.

Following the success of face filters on mobile applications, Chatspin sought a way to implement the feature on their desktop application which has remained the primary source of traffic for the random video chat platform despite success in the Google Play store.

The time that users spend on mobile applications grew by only 6% in 2017, representing a significant drop of 11% from the year previous. The same study, published by Techcrunch, shows that lifestyle apps such as video chat services were hit the hardest with a 40% decrease in usage when compared to 2016. Techcrunch also published a sister study showing that 51% of American mobile users don't download any apps in a month. Be alert to the latest news.

Another study, published by Stone Temple, showed that while American users visit more websites via mobile, the time spent on those sites increases significantly for desktop users. Based on 513 trillion visit-seconds over the course of 2017, the report found that American users stay on a website for an average of more than two minutes longer than when they use their mobile. Worldwide, the data, based on 2.6 quadrillion visit-seconds, shows a difference in time spent on a website of almost three minutes in favor of desktop users.

This data goes against the popular belief that the mobile revolution will kill the majority of desktop usage and displays the importance of continually servicing desktop websites and platforms with new features and technology.

"We are so excited to announce a world first at Chatspin", said Chatspin Press Manager, Shay Robin, "The introduction of AR face filters on our desktop platform will ensure we stand out from every other video chat service and increase the fun users can have when meeting others on Chatspin's web browser video chat".

The AR face filters will introduce yet another free feature on the Chatspin desktop platform. Users can apply effects such as glasses, hats, makeup, costumes, masquerades, and other fun masks while chatting live with people from around the world. To join in with the fun, users only require a computer, webcam, and internet connection. Continue reading.

Chatspin is a random video chat app which is available on Android and web browsers with an iTunes release planned soon. CBD/Hemp Oil Businesses Seeking Merchant Account Solutions Rapidly Growing On EthosPay

EthosPay, a specialist merchant service provider for high-risk industries, has announced a record number of businesses within the CBD/hemp oil industry seeking merchant processing solutions in 2018. Over the past nine months, the number of vendors selling non-psychoactive forms of marijuana seeking merchant processing solutions with EthosPay has increased by more than 400% in comparison with 2017.

The legalization of marijuana, both for recreational and medicinal uses, across many states in America is a major contributing factor to the increase in businesses seeking merchant accounts. To date, 33 states have legalized medicinal marijuana, representing almost a fifth of the US population. It is widely expected that other states will soon follow suit as a poll by Pew Research Center found that 62% of Americans, including 74% of millennials, said that they support the legalization of marijuana.

The legalization of marijuana has led to a huge growth in the number of businesses selling legal cannabis and associated products. By the end of 2019, the CBD/hemp oil industry is expected to be worth more than the firearms and ammunition industry. The same report states that if sales continue on their current trajectory, the industry will grow more than 200% between now and 2020. These factors have had a knock-on effect with businesses seeking urgent merchant processing solutions to deal with the demand from their customers.

"We have never witnessed an industry explode as quickly as the legal cannabis industry", said EthosPay Press Manager, Shea Robinson, "2018 was a significant year for supporters of legal marijuana and it looks as though 2019 will be another banner year. Currently, there are no signs of this rapid growth slowing down".

Supporting future projections about the growth of the CBD/hemp oil industry are numerous studies displaying the benefits of using various parts of the plant for medical purposes. Anxiety, depression, heart disease, pain relief, and sleeping disorders are a few of the many benefits cited by various recent studies. These studies help to project the industry as legitimate and are sure to contribute to the huge number of businesses operating within the industry.

About EthosPay
EthosPay is a dedicated merchant service provider that specializes in working with high-risk businesses. Accepting applications from businesses of any size and in any industry, EthosPay ensures that every merchant finds the perfect fit for their needs with a 99% approval rate. Chargeback mitigation software, high risk payment gateways, and offshore merchant processing solutions are just some of the services offered by EthosPay.

Author Elaine Ambrose Releases Frozen Dinners: A Memoir of a Fractured Family

Humor is a universal survival tactic--one which bestselling author, speaker, and "verified funny lady" Elaine Ambrose knows all too well. Hailing from a dysfunctional family, Elaine Ambrose is no stranger to strife. Her new release FROZEN DINNERS: A Memoir of a Fractured Family, which launches today (November 20: Brown Books Publishing Group) takes a turn from her familiar sharp humor. Her backstory sheds light on a cold childhood that would give rise to her brazen wit, resiliency, and warm spirit. More info here.

Speaking on why she chose to diverge from her humorist style, Ambrose says: "I'd rather write humor, but the memoir wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it. I have many negative memories from childhood, but my humor and wit sustained me during the hard times." Read related news now.

Following World War II, the United States innovated and evolved economically in order to rebuild itself, which resulted in great success in both new and growing industries. As most families began to enjoy the new pastime of evening television, one of these burgeoning industries was that of the frozen TV dinner. Elaine's father, a farmer from Wendell, Idaho, had the audacity and vision to start his own trucking business and take hold of the opportunity this new product provided. Though his innovation ultimately led to affluence, it meant that he was often on the road, leaving Elaine's mother to act as a single parent in his absence. When he was home, Elaine clashed with her father, a steadfast traditionalist whose priorities lay in his business. Click here.

FROZEN DINNERS is a compelling, honest account of the trials and tribulations of Elaine's childhood, which was filled with hardship despite her father's success in the frozen TV dinner industry. Elaine details the struggles her family undertook under the strain of an absent father and the high tensions, familial rivalries, courtroom drama, and illness that arose after his untimely death. Her struggles solidified her stubborn independence, which Elaine credits as an asset to her success as a writer.

"Our family meals were cold – and not just because of the frozen dinners. My father was a workaholic and visionary and turned his ambition into multi-million-dollar businesses, but his extreme temperament left the family in a state of emotional paralysis. After high school graduation, I left to look for love and warmth." Read this for more information.

Through this gripping narrative, Elaine seeks to offer hope to others who have a complicated family story. "Readers should analyze and reflect on their own lives to appreciate the talents and passion that helped them find independence, success, and happiness on their journeys," says Elaine.

VetStem Biopharma is Pleased to Share the Success Story of Jack, a Great Pyrenees who was Treated with Stem Cell Therapy by Dr. Andrea Hayes

Like many large breed dogs, Jack, a Great Pyrenees, began showing symptoms of joint disease very early on. Before he was a year old, his mom, Rebecca, noticed he was slow to get up and knew something was not quite right. She had him examined by her veterinarian and her suspicions were confirmed: Jack had bilateral hip dysplasia, a congenital condition affecting the formation of the hip joints. Left untreated, hip dysplasia will result in arthritis and pain in the joint. Rebecca realized the severity of the situation when, upon entering a pet store, Jack's legs splayed out on the white, slippery floor and he yelped. She knew something had to be done.

Jack's veterinarian, Dr. Andrea Hayes of Boone Animal Hospital, gave Rebecca a few options for treatment. One option was total hip replacement, which is an invasive and expensive surgical procedure. As a second option, Dr. Hayes suggested treatment with VetStem Regenerative Cell Therapy. After weighing her options, Rebecca decided to move forward with stem cell therapy.

Jack received his initial round of stem cell injections back in 2014 when he was around seven months old. Jack underwent a minimally invasive procedure in which fat tissue was collected from beneath the skin around his rib cage. The tissue was aseptically packaged and sent to the VetStem laboratory in Poway, California. VetStem lab technicians processed the fat to concentrate and extract the stem cells and created injectable doses of Jack's own stem and regenerative cells. After quality checks were performed, the doses were shipped back to Dr. Hayes who received and injected them approximately 48 hours after the initial fat collection. Jack received an injection into each hip and intravenously.

Approximately nine months after his initial round of injections, Rebecca reported that Jack was getting around much better. According to Rebecca he was a whole new dog. He was able to walk on slippery floors and run and hop around the yard. Though he was still stiff after playing too hard or after lying down for a long while, Rebecca believes he would not have survived much longer had he not received stem cell therapy. Read here.

Fast forward nearly four years to January of 2018 when Jack received his second round of injections. Rebecca had maintained Jack's stem cell bank over the years so Dr. Hayes was able to request recovery and preparation of Jack's stored stem cells, rather than performing another fat collection procedure on him. This time, he received an injection in his left elbow, left hip, and intravenously. Approximately four months after the injections, Rebecca reported that Jack was doing well. Though occasionally stiff when he gets up, Rebecca said he does his stretches and is good to go. We recently checked in with Rebecca and she reported that Jack is "still on the move."

Stem cells are regenerative cells that can differentiate into many tissue types, reduce pain and inflammation, help to restore range of motion, and stimulate regeneration of tendon, ligament and joint tissues. In a peer-reviewed study of dogs with chronic osteoarthritis of the hip joint, it was found that stem cells reduced lameness and pain. More info here.

About Andrea Hayes, VMD, DACVS
Dr. Andrea Hayes received her Veterinary Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed a joint surgical residency at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts and Angell Animal Medical Center in Massachusetts. Dr. Hayes achieved her dream of helping dogs and cats by becoming a Board-Certified Surgeon specializing in orthopedics in 1996. Dr. Hayes has been VetStem Credentialed since 2008.
