Strengthening Our Schools: Cancer Support Community CNJ Providing Support for Children in the Classroom Impacted by Cancer

Among the myriad issues facing children in schools across the country is the emotional, social and academic toll of cancer in the family. It is easy to understand and support a child who is diagnosed with cancer, but much harder to imagine the impact for a child whose parent, grandparent, or other loved one is facing the disease. Many times, schools are unaware the family is dealing with this significant health issue; it comes to the forefront after a student's grades drop, he or she misses classes, or, in extreme cases, acts out in the classroom. Be alert to the latest news.

Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey (CSCCNJ), located in Bedminster, NJ, understands the importance of providing support for these vulnerable students, as well as the school and childcare personnel with whom they spend the majority of their day. Many times, caregivers, teachers, guidance counselors and other school professionals will become "first responders" in this crisis when students approach them with news of a cancer diagnosis in the family.

It is important for school and childcare professionals to feel empowered with tools and knowledge, so, since 2008, CSCCNJ has offered Strengthening Our Schools (SOS) to provide the necessary tools and information to benefit these educators. This annual event, offered at no charge to any professional who interacts with children on a regular basis, is scheduled for October 19, 2018 at the Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater, NJ. It is a day-long, regional conference that offers tools and information to assist school and childcare personnel in their work with families affected by cancer. Each participant will attend two lectures, offered by nationally-renowned medical oncologists, and a series of smaller workshops led by oncology social work and allied health professionals.

Strengthening Our Schools is the centerpiece of CSCCNJ's year-round efforts to address the significant unmet needs for adolescents and teens facing a cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis/death of a family member. Every week, there are almost 33,000 new cases of cancer, according to the American Cancer Society, and over 1,670 people will die every day, so the problem is unrelenting. In response, CSCCNJ offers school-based support groups during lunches or free periods. Since 2015, in response to the needs identified by school and community personnel at Strengthening Our Schools, CSCCNJ has started groups in five local high schools with plans to move into additional high schools and the first middle school in 2019.

The impact of school-based support groups is evident to the professionals who have seen the positive change in students. Coleen Butler, Director of Guidance, K-12 in the Somerset Hills School District, has seen the effect on her students at Bernards High School. "Our Teens Connect group resembles the characters from The Breakfast Club in that the members are all completely different, but they are connected by a circumstance that is very difficult—Cancer," Butler says, "I have watched The Athlete and The Brain, who might have never spoken to each other before, bond in a way that they support one another both in and out of group."

Katherine Schaible, LSW, and Program Coordinator at CSCCNJ, facilitates some of these school-based support groups. Schaible notes, "It's important for these teens to know that they are not alone. The group helps to reduce feelings of isolation and provide a model for healthy coping skills that will carry these students throughout their lives." By addressing this life changing crisis at a critical state in their development, CSCCNJ can positively impact young people affected by cancer and teach them important coping skills that will last throughout their lifetime.

School-based support groups are open to both students whose loved ones are living with a cancer diagnosis and those who are bereaved. It is a place to connect with others who understand what they are experiencing. One student says, "Having a safe place to open up and where people can relate and give advice was so helpful."

Butler concludes, "As we have seen in The Breakfast Club, being a teenager is hard; but being a teenager whose life has been affected by cancer is even harder."

DSCC Releases Annual Foldable Display Technology and Market Report

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has released the industry's first report dedicated to foldable display technology and the foldable display market. This report took 9 months to produce, provides deep insight into what it will take to commercialize foldable displays and forecasts foldable display yields, costs, capacity, shipments, prices, revenues, area and more.

The report reveals:

The report also answers the following important questions:

DSCC projects the foldable display market will start out slow reaching 3.1M units in 2019 with Samsung Electronics and Huawei launching foldable smartphones in Q1'19. After 2019, growth will accelerate as shown in Figures 1 and 2 as costs and prices fall, availability improves, and competition increases enabling foldable displays to expand into tablets, notebook PCs and other market segments. By 2022, DSCC sees the foldable market for all applications at 63M units, a 173% CAGR. On a revenue basis, DSCC shows 151% CAGR in display revenues to $8.9B in 2022.

According to DSCC CEO Ross Young, "This was a very challenging report to write as it encompasses so many different aspects of the display market. It required expertise on display manufacturing, process flows, many different types of display materials and how they are manufactured, hinge solutions, cost modeling, capacity modeling, brand and panel supplier surveys and roadmap discussions, demand forecasting, price forecasting and calculating supply vs. demand. We also met with many brands and panel suppliers and discussed their roadmaps and most are quite excited about the long-term prospects for foldable displays. They are hoping the innovative form factor and ability to incorporate larger displays into smaller form factors will drive ASPs and revenues higher."

For more information on DSCC's 250-slide Foldable Display Market and Technology Report including a detailed table of contents, please visit https://www.displaysupplychain.com/foldable-display.html.

DSCC is also hosting the Future of Display Technologies and Markets Conference on November 6th at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. where it will be discussing its outlook for foldable displays. More information for this event can be found at: https://bit.ly/2R2UY5z.

Aladtec Team Will Demo Software at Minnesota Fire Chiefs Conference

Health, wellness, and education are themes Minnesota Fire Chiefs Association members will hear championed when they gather Oct. 10-13 for their annual conference and expo at the RiverCentre.

Read here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/canine-camp-getaway-of-ny-dog-vacation.html

Along with education and fellowship, department leaders will shop products and services offered by dozens of vendors -- including Aladtec, the premier provider of scheduling software and workforce management solutions for public safety.

Conference attendees are invited to stop by the Aladtec display during the trade show, from noon to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12. Senior Account Representative Brad Parmeter and Support Specialist Nancy Newton will provide demonstrations of the software and answer any questions. Read this here.

The Aladtec system easily handles the complex scheduling and unique rotation requirements common in fire service. Its features allow members to submit availability, request time off and initiate shift trades -- all from a smartphone, tablet or desktop. It helps leaders monitor and meet minimum staffing requirements, helps control overtime, integrates with payroll, and allows agencies to track certifications and licensing. Aladtec e-forms speed up rig checks and provide airtight documentation.

Firefighter-paramedic Jerry Craddock recalls the hassles of trying to check a schedule, request time off or swap a shift before Mentor (OH) Fire & Rescue subscribed to Aladtec. He'd either need to drive to the station or phone in to check a paper schedule posted somewhere. Be alert to the latest news.

"It was crazy, but when we got Aladtec, it all became so organized," said Craddock. "There was quick acceptance. It streamlined what was once a chore. I believe that if they took Aladtec's Fire Manager away from us, there would be a mutiny." Read all the latest news.

Watch this short video to see how the Maplewood (MN) Fire Dept. uses Aladtec to schedule multiple crews at several stations. Read news here.

Other program highlights for attendees include discussions on legislative issues, advice on gaining community support for construction of a new fire station, cancer prevalence and prevention as it relates to fire service, PTSD and firefighter mental health, and how department leaders can engage and keep non-career firefighters motivated to serve their communities for many years.

Aladtec is proud to have 26 fire departments in the greater Twin Cities area as customers, and hundreds more across the U.S. across the U.S and Canada.

For a free demonstration, visit http://www.aladtec.com. Call 888-749-5550 with questions, or to arrange a customized demonstration for your agency.

Fabrik Media Celebrates The Convergence of Major Art and Photography Shows in Los Angeles

Fabrik Media has won praise for bringing American and international artists to Los Angeles for their annual Photo Independent and Fabrik Expo art fairs, and this year art enthusiasts will descend on The Reef in downtown Los Angeles, October 5-7, 2018 for their new editions. Read this here.

"We are about empowering all kinds of creative expression," stated Chris Davies, founder and director of both fairs. "For 2018 we are excited to showcase Skulpturengarten, an indoor sculpture exhibition, curated by Ichiro Irie, and will feature large-scale to monumental, freestanding sculpture works by some of the most exciting and innovative, emerging to mid-career artists from Los Angeles and around the world." Read related news here.

Skulpturegarten takes its inspiration from the classic sculpture garden, whose origins reach far back as 175,000 years ago in the Bruniquel Cave in France. The works presented will showcase the diversity of materials and approaches from artists such as Jeff Colson, Pontus Willfors, Shusuke Ao, Rochelle Botello, Anibal Catalan, Martin Durazo, Lauren Fejarang, Ashley Hagen, Kellan Barnebey King, Jason Manley, and Abdul Mazid, to name a few.

Equally as interesting and thought-provoking is The Experience Lounge, with an art activation titled, The Sereal Killers, by art duo VALTD, and presented by Cartwheel Art. The Experience Lounge is aimed at killing misconceptions and preconceived notions, along with closed or narrow-minded judgments cast on people, especially women, when often the exact opposite or close to it, is true. Participants will have the chance to become 'sereal killers' themselves, all while enjoying a mix of delicious cocktails served by the local legends Los Angeles' Infuse Spirits. VALTD's work can be followed on valtdart.com. Read related news now.

Photo Independent, the longest running photo fair for photographers in the World, is now in its fifth year in Los Angeles. Conversica Launches Industry’s First AI-Powered Admissions Assistant for Higher Education

Conversica, the leader in conversational AI for business, has added an Admissions Assistant for higher education to the company's portfolio of virtual assistants powered by conversational AI. The new assistant enables busy admissions teams to engage prospective students in a personal yet automated way, at scale. Today's prospective students are busier than ever and need gently persistent yet highly personalized outreach, and Conversica's AI Assistants are designed to provide it.

"Admissions departments at educational institutions have limited resources to deliver the kind of high-quality, personalized experience needed to attract new students. Further complicating the recruitment challenge is that students are difficult to reach, and most are contacting multiple institutions," explained Alex Terry, CEO of Conversica. "Our industry-leading AI Assistants help thousands of companies across a dozen industries to more effectively engage their leads, and we are excited to deepen our commitment to the education industry."

Early Admissions Assistant adopters are reporting impressive results. "We 'hired' an AI Admissions Assistant to re-engage applicants who had become unresponsive," said Alessandra Klee, Associate Director of Database Marketing at Pearson North America. "Our assistant began autonomous outreach to leads that we had engaged on behalf of more than 15 universities but had been unresponsive for six months or longer. These efforts resulted in a 26 percent increase in engagement rate and a 35 percent increase in conversion rate, which far exceeded our expectations."

At the LeadsCon Connect to Convert conference, taking place this week in Boston, Klee will be presenting Pearson's use of the Admissions Assistant in higher education at a session on the "3 Top Secrets to Empowering Your Hard-Earned Leads to Become Your Money-Paying Customers." Conference attendees can learn more by visiting Conversica at booth 323 in the exhibit hall or by attending a webinar on October 30 featuring Pearson's Klee speaking on the same topic.

Schools Failing to Respond Effectively to Inquiries

Conversica's most recent research on inquiry follow-up in higher education, documented in the Sales Effectiveness Report in Education, revealed that 27 percent of schools contacted did not respond at all — not a single email or phone call — to the prospective student. Additionally:

To address these follow-up challenges, Conversica provides AI Assistants that automate the lead follow-up process and engage every prospective student in a two-way, human-like conversation. With a response rate often three to five times higher than marketing or sales emails, Conversica's assistants significantly increase the number of quality conversations with prospective students and reduce the time the admissions department has to spend following up.

Using the Conversica AI Admissions Assistant, admissions departments can:

Another organization seeing impressive results is The Los Angeles Film School. "We were looking for a way to have more persistent —and consistent — conversations with prospective students," said James Winstead, Vice President of Marketing at The Los Angeles Film School. "Stephanie, our AI Assistant, does her magic and finds even more who want to engage, which are fully attributed to Conversica. We're also using the AI in our retention efforts, allowing for constant communication with our students even after graduation, which helps promote ongoing brand advocacy." Click here.

Available now, the Admissions Assistant communicates over multiple communication channels, interacts in multiple languages, and integrates with the leading CRM and marketing automation systems, including Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, and Eloqua.

An Innovative Smart Robot for Pets That Helps with Pet Anxiety and Playtime

An estimated 50.2 million dogs and 56.5 million cats are above their normal healthy weight, based on 2017 pet population projections provided by the American Pet Products Association (APPA). Pets with obesity are at increased risk for developing serious weight related disorders such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disease, cancer, and more. VARRAM has developed a pet fitness robot to address these issues.

VARRAM is designed to help pet owners to care for their pets while they are away, schedule activity time and reward them. Using the VARRAM app, automatic routines can be scheduled by connecting through Bluetooth. Features include interacting with friends who have similar age and breed of pets, controlling the robot manually or customizing actions by programming it to your pet's personality. Click here.

By using the mobile application, you can manage play time, toss counts, sleep time and control activity routines. The robot is made from FDA standard polycarbonate, with advanced positioning sensors allowing it to navigate any space and runs for up to 10 hours.

"At VARRAM we have 10 years developing robots, and we spent over 2 years working on the VARRAM Pet Fitness Robot. We designed our robot to be safe and used a shape that pets like, which is also strong enough to handle being chewed or gnawed." said Global Marketing Deputy General Manager Bee-Oh Kim.

The Kickstarter campaign is looking to raise $30,000 by October 18th 2018 and has already reached this goal. Perks include a Kickstarter Special price of $89 for a VARRAM Pet Fitness Robot, saving 31% off the RRP and delivers worldwide.
