The 42nd annual Sundance Film Festival blew into Park City, Utah as expected. The festival offered attendees an opportunity to see some of the best that the world of independent cinema has to offer. Cultured Focus Magazine was on hand to cover the event and give readers an exclusive look.
Filmmaker Emily Wilson and actor Danny Dikel were our first interview. Wilson directed the short film Danny's Girl, in which Dikel plays the title character. The idiosyncratic thriller follows a young man who, after meeting his online love for the first time, discovers his love interest has a peculiar secret. It was an incredible experience meeting the talented director and the lead actor, who gave great advice for other artists. The full video interview can be found on the Cultured Focus Magazine website and social platforms.
A screening of Netflix's Crip Camp was held at the Eccles Theater where we interviewed the directors of the film - Nicole Newnham and Jim LeBrecht. The directors of 'Crip Camp' delivered a rousing film about a group of campers turned activists who shaped the future of the disability-rights movement and changed accessibility legislation for everyone. The film was executive produced by the Obama family. Read related news now.
Elsewhere, the wait was more than three hours to see one of music's hottest acts Taylor Swift in her Netflix movie, Miss Americana the 'to get' ticket. There were so many people, from fans to reporters, fighting over a star. It was both an insane scene and unforgettable experience.
Next, Cultured Focus Magazine chatted with filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré, the woman behind Netflix's social drama Cuties. Doucouré discussed what it is like to be a female director of color in France and in the film industry generally. She's one of the few female directors who has achieved international success and is an inspiration. Through her work, she continues to pave the way for future generations. The full video interview can be found on our website containing advice on how she became successful in the industry. Read related news here.
It was then time to hit the press line for an exclusive interview with Emmy-nominated actress Kerry Washington about the new documentary film, The Fight. She was a remarkable woman to meet and she discussed the importance of the film and why she helped produce it. The film's directors are Elyse Steinberg, Josh Kriegman, and Eli Despres who spoke about how thrilled they were for audiences to see the film after three years of production work. Cultured Focus Magazine had the privilege of seeing the film. The Fight is an inspiring, emotional insider look at how important battles are fought and the legal gladiators on the front lines fighting them in Trump's America. The film celebrates the unsung heroes who fiercely work to protect our freedoms. Be alert to read related news.
At the Marc Theater, director Bryan Fogel was interviewed for his latest film The Dissident. The Dissident delves into the conspiracy behind the infamous murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Fogel spoke on the importance of the film for journalists, the Khashoggi family, human rights activists, and others who speak out against their government. He reiterated his passion for telling stories of today that are most relevant and impactful.
Hillary Clinton also attended the film screening.
Cultured Focus Magazine's next stop on our journey through Sundance would be way more lighthearted. An invite to Myth: A Frozen Tale allowed for a one-of-a kind virtual reality experience.
Film-goers are transported in the midst of the Frozen 2 tale, with giants and snowflakes all around them. Incredible! Afterwards, the director Jeff Gipson and his team gave insight into the year long filmmaking process and their aim to get the virtual experience to broader audiences.

Our Sundance visit would conclude on a spooky note however. During a roundtable discussion, our team had the opportunity to interview actors Stacy Martin, Rebecca Hall, and Evan Jonigkeit. The supernatural thriller The Night House was directed by David Bruckner, and the film left us on the edge of our seats. In the movie, a widow uncovers some of her recently deceased husband's sinister secrets. With an impeccable performance from Rebecca Hall and the cast, The Night House offers a stunningly effective take on the traditional ghost story. Meeting the cast was truly inspiring as they spoke about what drew them to the film, their characters and the layers of grief explored.
As Sundance Film Festival 2020 came to an end, our team was awe struck by the incredible films from The Fight, to Luxor, and the short film Danny's Girl. The team was even lucky enough to get an interview with the highly sought after director of The Perfect Candidate, Haifaa Al Mansour, who is Saudi Arabia's first female director. She spoke about the challenges female filmmakers have in the industry, yet the rewarding experience of producing her film and bringing it to Saudi Arabia and beyond.
For Cultured Focus Magazine, the festival will remain a one of a kind experience with exclusive in-depth interviews with directors and celebrities direct to readers in real-time. Our team looks forward to Sundance Film Festival 2021 as we continue to expand and broaden our reach and influence.
