WHAT:
Lillstreet Art Center and the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) are joining forces to host a workshop for children to learn how to create clay candy creatures using pinch pot techniques. Attendees will be able to work with many different stamps, decorations, color, and shapes to personalize their pots in a sensory-friendly environment. Read news here.
"We have been working on this partnership with Lillstreet Art Center, so we can bring a safe and accessible space to the autism community in Chicago that individuals with ASD and their families can enjoy," said Erin McNulty, operations manager at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders in Ravenswood.
The workshop is $35 to attend, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds from the workshop will benefit Autism Care Today (ACT), a national nonprofit organization founded by CARD Executive Director Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh dedicated to raising awareness and providing services and supports to help children with autism achieve their full potential.

WHY:
Autism is a developmental disorder marked by impaired social interaction, limited communication, behavioral challenges, and a limited range of activities and interests. It is estimated that 1 in 40 individuals in the United States are affected by autism. Autism is more common than juvenile diabetes, pediatric AIDS, and pediatric cancer combined. Intensive behavioral intervention has been proven to be effective, yet many individuals go without treatment due to financial constraints. Autism Care Today fills this gap by providing assistance for these children today to ensure they have a better tomorrow.
