The program offers scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 to help well-rounded and high achieving students pursue post-secondary education in a variety of academic disciplines. Scholarships are offered in 14 categories, including agriculture, art, business, culinary/hospitality/event management, education and more. Click here to read the latest news.
Applicants may only apply for one scholarship category per year and will be evaluated based on academics, community service and recommendations. In addition, applicants have the opportunity to highlight their involvement in extracurricular activities - as well as explain the motivation behind their pursuit of a specific career path - through a personal essay in the application. Top scholarship winners in select categories may be invited to compete for the $5,000 Ironstone Concours Foundation Scholarship, like University of California-Davis student Katherine Brafford.

"I grew up surrounded by hundreds of acres of land in the mountains on the California-Oregon border. At the intersection of three mountain ranges, the region is remarkably geologically and biologically diverse […] The people who live in this area, and the people who make laws effecting it, have competing ideas, needs, and beliefs about how to interact with the land. This land and the people who live in it sparked my fascination with the natural world and determination to understand and shape it," wrote Brafford, recipient of last year's Ironstone Concours Foundation Scholarship and Agricultural Students scholarship, in her essay. "After graduate school, I plan to return to the California-Oregon border region and work with the Cooperative Extension Service, non-profit or government land management agencies, or private for-profit companies."
For more than 25 years, the Friends of the California State Fair Scholarship Program has awarded nearly $50,000 annually to California students pursuing post-secondary education. The program is a collaboration between the Friends of the California State Fair, the California Exposition and State Fair, the California State Fair Agricultural Advisory Council, the Ironstone Concours Foundation, Blue Diamond Growers and Western Fairs Association.
