Temple Grandin Named 2019 "Great Friend to Kids" Honoree

The Association of Children's Museums (ACM) has selected Temple Grandin, PhD, as the recipient of the 2019 ACM Great Friend to Kids Award. Dr. Grandin will accept the award on May 9th, during ACM's InterActivity 2019 conference in Denver, CO.

"ACM selected Dr. Temple Grandin for her contributions to understanding autism, advocacy, and education of caregivers and educators on what it means to live as a person on the autism spectrum," said ACM Executive Director Laura Huerta Migus. "Children's museums believe that pursuing equity and inclusion is a best practice, one that reflects our field's commitment to serving all children and families. We're proud to honor Dr. Grandin as an advocate and pioneer for inclusive practices."

Temple Grandin, PhD, is professor of animal science at Colorado State University and is a pioneer in the handling and welfare of farm animals. The author of twelve books on autism and animal behavior, Dr. Grandin also lectures to parents and teachers throughout the United States on her personal experiences with autism. Her 2010 TED Talk, "The World Needs All Kinds of Minds" has more than 750,000 views.

Since 1991, the ACM Great Friends to Kids Award has been presented annually at InterActivity and honors those who have made significant contributions to strengthen education and advance the interests of children. Past recipients include the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, The Junior League, and Geoffrey Canada.
