The San Diego Business Journal (SDBJ) is presenting its first San Diego Top Business Leader's award for emerging leaders under 40 years of age. The SDBJ award recognizes individuals within the business community who exhibit leadership, innovation, community impact and those who show they will be a leading force in years to come. The award ceremony will be held on August 14, 2018 at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter.

Rhett Wheeler, chosen as a finalist in the Top Business Leader Awards, joined the Bill Howe Family of Companies in 2016. His official title is Risk Manager; however, he has become an integral asset to the company reflecting in many areas. As Risk Manager, Rhett has decreased incidents of unsafe and distracted driving with his driving onboarding program, reduced fuel costs, and increased morale with beginning employees as their first point of contact outside of Human Resources.
Rhett also plays the role of job audits and has set up a procedure that allows him to visit all 125 plus field employees' job site at least once per month. His job site visit procedures have helped to identify areas of improvement as well as encouraging field employees in the adoption of safety policies, appearance, craftsmanship and more. Prior to Rhett's site visits, quality control was performed by field supervisors.
"Rhett has filled a void at the Bill Howe Family of Companies' that we did not know we had," said Amber Rush, Human Resource Manager. "Not only did he come in with a strategic plan on day one to take our fleet to new heights, he has assisted in virtually every department with his forward-thinking business acumen."
Rhett joined the company after 14 years with the Dominos brand. He worked his way up from an entry level position to district manager and has brought with him a wealth of experience in increasing efficiencies and reducing costs in a large fleet.
"I am excited to look next at bringing advanced customer facing technologies to the company," said Rhett about his upcoming innovations for Bill Howe.
