GSW Certifies Telnet Server and GSW ConnectBot Android Client on Archer 3 Rugged Handheld Barcode Scanner

Georgia SoftWorks (GSW) successfully tested their GSW ConnectBot for Android and GSW Universal Terminal System (UTS for Windows) using a Juniper Systems Archer 3; a ruggedized handheld barcode scanner that offers reliable performance in harsh environments.

The Georgia SoftWorks certification testing consisted of installing the GSW ConnectBot Android Client and setting up a telnet connection to the UTS server. The GSW Lab ran test applications over a period of time to establish confidence that the connections remained stable. They set up an SSH2 connection to the UTS and performed stress testing. They disconnected and reconnected multiple times to ensure consistency. Finally, the GSW Lab tested the GSW ConnectBot for Android features, including their new Licensing and Deployment Server.

"The GSW LADS (Licensing and Deployment Server) allows you to manage your licensing, upload and download configurations from devices, upload screenshots to the server for technical assistance, as well as manage updates to the software" explained Steve Lindsey of Georgia SoftWorks. "The Archer 3 performed reliably throughout all of our testing, without as much as a hiccup. It is a fully capable device that runs well in a Georgia SoftWorks environment." Juniper Systems' Archer 3 is a rugged handheld with an integrated barcode scanner, designed to thrive in tough conditions. Weighing in at 1.3 pounds, the Archer 3 has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of Flash Storage. It is IP-68 rated and meets stringent MIL-STD- 810G test standards. Trident University Health Sciences Professor Publishes Articles on Reproductive Injustice

Dr. Leandra Hernández, instructor in Trident University International's (Trident) College of Health and Human Services, has published articles in the journals Women's Studies in Communication and Health Communication.

"Feminist Approaches to Border Studies and Gender Violence: Family Separation as Reproductive Injustice" appears in the latest issue of Women's Studies in Communication. In this article, Dr. Hernández examines the physical, mental, and social impacts of family separation at the United States-Mexico border through an interdisciplinary blending of feminist and border theories.

Dr. Hernández, along with Dr. Sarah De Los Santos Upton, also published the article, "Insider/Outsiders, Reproductive (In)justice, and the U.S.-Mexico Border," in the journal Health Communication. This articles seeks to build a stronger coalition between health communication scholars and Latina/o communication scholars in addressing reproductive injustice and gendered violence. Dr. Hernández is an instructor for the courses Health Communication & Advocacy, Cross-Cultural Health Perspectives, and Cultural Diversity in Health Sciences. Early this year, she served as co-editor and an author on the book volume, Military Spouses With Advanced Degrees: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Thriving Amidst Uncertainty, through Lexington Press.

Dr. Hernández holds a Ph.D. in Health Communication from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from University of St. Thomas. Read related news here.

Local Toy Stores Pick the Best Toys Via ASTRA’s 2019 Best Toys for Kids Awards

The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) unveiled it's 2019 Best Toys for Kids Awards at the ASTRA Marketplace & Academy earlier this month in Pittsburgh, PA.

As the only program of its kind, the "Best Toys for Kids" award program is intended to heighten consumer awareness of the value of creative, open-ended play and the role that independent, locally owned toy stores play in providing children quality playthings that promote happy, healthy, and productive childhoods.

"This is an opportunity for ASTRA manufacturers in the community to submit their products - unpaid - and then have those products reviewed by retailers who have their feet on the floor, know moms and dads, watch kids and how kids interact with products, and who have a substantial understanding of how play is crucial to child development," said Kim Mosley, President of ASTRA. "They rely on their expertise to review the submitted toys, and then proceed to pick the best products for the year!"
