MediaWorks™ designs official online branding piece for the SMPTE Los Angeles Convention

MediaWorks™ is one of four brands in Cogswell's Real World Project Studios™, where students produce impressive, professional work for businesses in Silicon Valley and beyond. Students from Cogswell College's Audio & Music Technology and Digital Art & Animation departments are involved in real-life client projects, which include all aspects of a full-scale audiovisual project, including production.

MediaWorks was responsible for creating a space-themed animated trailer for the SMPTE 2019 Convention. The project incorporated the seven different aspects of the conference into a 60-second piece. MediaWorks also created short audiovisual announcements to introduce the speakers of a range of sessions over the four days of the conference. The secondary goal of the collaboration was for students to implement SMPTE's new branding into the trailer. Since SMPTE was recently going through a re-branding process, it provided Cogswell students a rare opportunity to work in a real-world environment dealing with various stakeholders as they moved through each phase. You can watch the LA SMPTE trailer here: https://2019.smpte.org/

"Cogswell College students worked with SMPTE during the Summer 2019 semester to produce wonderful video content for SMPTE's 2019 annual event. The group of students were quite professional in their approach, asking probing questions, offering suggestions, drafting, scripting, and producing the content. SMPTE staff found the students to be passionate, collaborative, creative, and full of interesting ideas. They also responded well to feedback so the final version would be something of which SMPTE, the students, and Cogswell College would be proud!" says SMPTE Director of Education Joel E. Welch.

Advocate Health Care is enrolling adults with Down syndrome for the first research study in the Down Syndrome Clinical Trials Network Supported by LuMind IDSC Foundation

On the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital campus, Park Ridge, Illinois, Advocate Medical Group Adult Down Syndrome Center researchers are enrolling adults with Down Syndrome who are older than 25 in the Longitudinal Investigation for Enhancing Down Syndrome Research Study (LIFE-DSR). The goal of the study is to better understand the health issues people with Down syndrome face as they age, particularly their risk for Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Read related news here.

"In spite of recent advances in medical care, adults with Down syndrome continue to face very significant challenges, including a markedly increased risk of Alzheimer disease," said Brian Chicoine, MD, site principal investigator for Advocate Health Care and cofounder and medical director for the Advocate Medical Group Adult Down Syndrome Center. "We are excited to be participating in the LIFE-DSR study and hope that this work will lead to better treatments for older people with Down syndrome." Read all the latest news.

Diagnosing Alzheimer's is complex, particularly in people with Down syndrome. With no single test currently available, diagnosis is based on an individual's history, physical examination and cognitive testing. The LIFE-DSR study will observe adults with Down syndrome to validate tests of cognition and function designed specifically for adults with Down syndrome. The clinical trials network will also collect blood samples from all study participants to aid in the development of blood tests for Alzheimer disease.

The clinical trials network is sponsored by Alana Foundation and biopharmaceutical companies, AC Immune and Lundbeck with $3 million in initial funding. LuMind IDSC Foundation directs the clinical trials network. Through a research grant, Advocate received more than $300,000 from LuMind IDSC to participate as the first clinical trial site in Illinois.

"We believe that the clinical trials network will open up greater access to clinical research for people with Down syndrome and that is why LuMind IDSC is excited to be providing funding and leadership for the first study in the network, the LIFE-DSR study," said Hampus Hillerstrom, LuMind IDSC chief executive officer.

Researchers will enroll more than 270 adults with Down Syndrome older than 25 in the LIFE-DSR study nationwide and follow them for two years. Eligible study subjects must have a study partner, and both must provide consent to participate. Participants who enroll through Advocate Health Care will be compensated $50 for each completed visit (three total) and reimbursed for up to $50 for travel costs for visits.

"We're pleased to collaborate on this innovative trial designed for patients with Down syndrome," said Katie Wozniak, director of specialty research for Advocate Research Institute. "It is a privilege to serve this important community and to partner in efforts that may advance their future care and diagnostic testing."

To learn more about the LIFE DSR Study, contact Monika Kapinos at 847-723-2243 or LGH-LIFE-DSR@advocatehealth.com.

Right Hand Foundation Launches to Support and Uplift Underserved Communities in Atlanta

Right Hand Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding families in unstable living conditions, launched last week in Atlanta to support underserved communities, specifically Atlanta-based single mothers and their children. Founded by Courtney Stewart, the manager of Grammy-nominated artist Khalid, Right Hand Foundation provides single mothers and children long-term housing, educational programs and the tools necessary to prepare them for lifelong success. In addition to housing, the foundation offers educational programs that include financial planning, workforce training, health and wellness training, and home transition support to help create a sustainable lifestyle for these women and their families.

Stewart is creating these "Right Hand havens" by purchasing properties in various Atlanta neighborhoods and revitalizing the houses, outfitting them with modern appliances and making them comfortable, rent-free homes for a family to use while they get back on their feet. The foundation's first property in Historic College Park was recently completed and its newest tenant has plans to move in soon. After some time there, the family will be moved to a property where they will pay minimal rent and eventually, with assistance from the Right Hand team, move on to housing that is within their means. More info here.

"Atlanta is my hometown and to see these communities really suffering was something that resonated with me and I felt the drive and need to assist however I could," says Stewart. "I have always enjoyed investing in the Atlanta community whether that's with my time or investing in properties. Revitalizing the houses and using them to help those that need it seemed like the logical solution to blend my passions of real estate and giving back to the community that I love. Right Hand Foundation is the first step in a long journey for these women, and through the holistic approach we take, we are enabling them to become self-sufficient members of the community."

Right Hand Foundation is not Stewart's first experience in philanthropy. He has been supporting local Atlanta shelters since 2015 and earlier this year helped Khalid launch his own foundation, The Great Khalid Foundation, an education and arts focused initiative for communities in need. Most recently, The Great Khalid Foundation and the Right Hand Foundation hosted a benefit concert in Khalid's hometown of El Paso, Texas, for the victims and families of the August 3 mass shooting. The concert, "Khalid & Friends: A Night for Suncity," raised $500,000 for the El Paso Community Fund. Click here to read the latest news.

In order to ensure the right tenants find homes, Stewart is partnering closely with local nonprofits to find families who are a good fit for the program. Through an application process, the tenants will be referred to Right Hand Foundation and begin receiving the assistance they need. On October 10, in conjunction with Homelessness Awareness Day, the foundation hosted a private launch event in honor of their first long-term housing project being completed with notable attendees including Senate candidate Teresa Tomlinson, R&B musician Bobby V, and Linda Wolfe of The Great Khalid Foundation, among others. Photos and interviews are available upon request.

ABOUT RIGHT HAND FOUNDATION:
Right Hand Foundation provides single mothers and children with long-term housing, educational programs and infrastructure to prepare them for independent sustainability. Taking this holistic approach to supporting families in unstable living conditions is critical to preventing homelessness and putting families on a path to thrive. Right Hand Foundation works in underserved communities to uplift and guide future generations. The Foundation plans to build Right Hand "Havens" in communities throughout the country.

ABOUT COURTNEY STEWART:
As founder of Right Hand Management Group and Right Hand Foundation and co-founder of Keep Cool Records, Courtney Stewart leverages a 360-degree approach to all aspects of his business and philanthropy. By sharing a similar spirit and vision to his clients and the causes he supports, the artist manager, record label executive, and humanitarian maximizes every opportunity for success from all angles. This ability to align with artists and collaborate closely not only fostered the breakout of five-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated superstar Khalid, but it also cemented Stewart among the industry's future leaders recognized on Billboard's prestigious "40 Under 40" and named as one of Variety Magazines 2018's Hitmakers.
