Online Store Focuses on Helping California Residents Prepare for Planned Blackouts and Disasters

SurvivalGearSystems.com, an online store that offers disaster preparation gear, announced today they will be offering California residents specialized gear and discounts for planned blackout preparation.

California residents are facing a new challenge with the state and power companies working together to help prevent further destruction by imposing planned power outages. Experts state that over 2000 fires were ignited by utility lines and equipment between 2014 and 2017, then the devastating Camp fire in 2018 caused by electrical transmission lines. Better management of vegetation along with planned blackouts will be in force this year. Not only will residents need to be prepared for these power outages, they will need to be prepared for any massive wildfires that may occur in the future.

The co-founder and owner of the online store is someone who experienced the consequences of these events in the past and wanted to offer one central place for information and innovative products that help people across the country plan and prepare for disasters.

"I realized there was a need for one place to search for disaster supplies and information when I lived in California and was forced to move from my homes twice due to massive wildfires that devastated the small town of Manton where I lived for twelve years. The first fire was in 2005 and the next in 2012, the latter of which wiped out the entire water supply in my area for six months along with frequent power outages. Needless to say, I was unprepared and didn't know what I needed to survive these events without having to move or leave my home to get outside support," Jones remembers.

Jones states that there are some important things to consider when there are planned power outages. People with CPAP machines or other critical medical equipment need an affordable alternative power source to maintain their health needs. Another critical element is the risk of theft when the power is out and the fact that home security systems may be disabled, so either a portable solar kit or generator is recommended. High quality first aid kits and emergency kits that have life saving supplies including masks to protect from dangerous emissions from smoke; freeze dried emergency foods or MREs; portable stoves that don't require power to heat water and prepare food; and water and food storage containers are among some of the basic supplies needed in each household.
