No one, not even her parents, knew she was being trafficked for sex. Twenty years later, Theresa is speaking out on the reality of human trafficking in the U.S. She is the author of The Slave Across the Street, a USA Today and Wall Street Journal best seller, and The Sacred Bath. Barcode Scanner pic2shop Marks 10 Years on the App Store with New Partner

Vision Smarts celebrates today the ten-year anniversary of their barcode scanner app pic2shop. The app was the first to show that scanning barcodes with the iPhone camera was possible. Now the latest version of Vision Smarts' barcode and QR readers powers the apps made by new partner XPAND K.K. to read signage in large public spaces.

"For 10 years our clients have kept coming up with innovative ways to use our apps and SDKs. Each one was an opportunity to add new functionality or to make our barcode scanner faster, more versatile, and more robust. XPAND is the perfect example: reading signage from afar is a new application for us, yet they were able to use several of our products, and it turned out to be a great fit!" said Benoit Maison, CEO of Vision Smarts.

"Our latest app features the high-performance scanning engine of pic2shop. If it did not exist, we would not have been able to launch a business. The Vision Smarts barcode scanner will continue to be key to connecting the real and the net. Happy Tenth Anniversary!" added Toworu Nanmoku, CEO of XPAND.

Vision Smarts started 10 years ago with pic2shop, the original barcode scanner for iPhone. With no official camera API and no video capture pic2shop managed to read the blurry UPC and EAN barcodes captured by the first iPhones. Real-time scanning, many more barcode formats, and Android and Windows Phone apps soon followed.

Vision Smarts now offers a range of mobile apps and Software Development Kits (SDKs) that can be easily leveraged by end-users, hobbyists, startups and large corporations.

The story of XPAND.CODE's development illustrates the flexibility of Vision Smarts' product offering. Initially, XPAND leveraged the free app "pic2shop" to explore proofs of concept. Next, they moved on to the customizable "pic2shop pro" for prototyping. Then they considered using the app publishing service "Barcode Shell" to quickly establish their presence on the App Store. Finally, XPAND decided to build their own iOS and Android apps incorporating Vision Smarts' native SDKs. Continue reading.

XPAND codes augment public signs with unobtrusive barcodes that provide free links to indoor mapping, navigation and additional information. Because they are meant to be read from a large distance (over 50 meters), XPAND codes test the limits of smartphone cameras and barcode reading algorithms. Originally designed for reading blurry barcodes, Vision Smarts' software is uniquely suited to that task. Click here.

Taiwan Matsu Festival & Islands of Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope Nominated for Emmy Awards

Taiwan Tourism Bureau partnered with Public Broadcasting Service's (PBS) popular travel series "Joseph Rosendo's Travelscope" to produce "Taiwan Matsu Festival and Islands." Just days before Taiwan's annual Mazu Pilgrimage begins its procession, the travel series is nominated for the 46th Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Award's Outstanding Directing for a Single Camera Lifestyle, Culinary, Travel or Educational and Informational Program. Following "Taiwan Lantern Festival," "Iron Pathways to Adventure" and "Taiwan's Penghu Islands," this is yet another wonderful production that showcases Taiwan tourism on an international scale.

Joseph Rosendo's Travelscope came to Taiwan in 2017 to participate in the Mazu Pilgrimage and incense ritual. Through his interview with Folk Studies Professor Mao-Hsin Lin and exploring Mazu culture in the Matsu Islands, Rosendo explores the relationship between Taiwan's folk religion of Mazu and Matsu Island, inventively connecting the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage and Mazu in the episode. The journey to Matsu Island highlights the Statue of the Goddess Mazu, Qinbi Village, Tunnel 88, battlefield scenery, and local delicacies. The episode has been broadcast in North America and Canada since April 2018. Read here.

Rosendo enthusiastically recalls experiencing the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage for the very first time, joining the remarkable sight of performance troupes (dintao), the announcer (baomazai), Maitreya Brigade, Prince Brigade, Guards, and hundreds of thousands of Mazu devotees in escorting Mazu along Taiwan's coastal towns and villages. The powerful sight of unity among the Taiwanese is propelled by Mazu's charms. Only by witnessing can one deeply experience the kindness, hospitality, and warmth of the people. "Mazu is inside, outside; Mazu is pretty much everywhere in Taiwan," the host concluded towards the end of the episode. When presented with news of an Emmy nomination right before the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage sets out, the Travelscope team ecstatically expressed, "Let's welcome Mazu to join us at the Emmy ceremony."

The Director General of Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Dr. Yung-hui Chou expressed, "We are honored that Taiwan can be nominated with the travel series Joseph Rosendo's Travelscope at the 46th Daytime Creative Arts Awards. It means that our direction and efforts on Tourism 2020: A Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy are positively recognized." The Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, Ambassador Abraham Wen-Shang Chu added, "Taiwan has a rich natural and cultural landscape, as well as warm hospitality with the spirit of altruism. This nomination is Taiwan's best global recognition."

Moreover, "Taiwan Naturally" has also aired as part of season 10 of the PBS travel series Joseph Rosendo's Travelscope since April 2018. This episode features Taiwan's successful sustainable tourism and its devotion to conservation of mountains, forests and birds as well as farm to table dining. The director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau's Los Angeles office, Brad Shih expressed, "Currently, we have partnered with well-known tour operators to develop a variety of special interest itineraries such as bird tours, hiking tours, island tours, gourmet tours, and many more. Thus, American audiences who love the Travelscope series can have the opportunity to visit Taiwan and explore in-depth." With Matsu's supernatural power in the mix, the Travelscope team also expects to hit a new milestone and bring home its seventh Emmy Award. Read latest news here.

myLAB Box Promotes STD Awareness Month with “Safe is Sexy” Health Tips

April is STD Awareness Month, and now more than ever, STDs are preventable. There are steps each of us can take to minimize the long-term consequences of these infections, but vigilance is key. Recent CDC data for three nationally-reported STDs—chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis—show alarming numbers, with cases of all three diseases increasing for the first time since 2006. Read news here.

To help educate consumers on the realities of STDs, myLAB Box, the first at-home sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing service, today offers up the realities of STDs and tips to help curb the spread of STDs and STIs.

State of STDs Today

Young people ages 15–24, and gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men continue to be at greatest risk for infection. Environmental, social, and cultural factors, including high numbers of STD cases in these populations and difficulty accessing quality health care, contribute to the higher STD burden.

More info here.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/hills-pet-nutrition-helps-pet-parents.html

All STDs can be managed, but they can't be managed until they are diagnosed. And the first step to detection is regular testing. That is why during STD Awareness Month, we're asking our readers to spread the word. Please share this message with your friends and family.

Beyond getting tested, the most important way to combat STDs is knowledge. Unfortunately, a lot of misinformation has gotten in the way of protecting our health. And if there's one thing for certain, it's that you can't rely on gossip and hearsay when your life is on the line.

The Various STD Myths:

Where Can You Get Tested for STDs?

Thankfully, there are more quick and efficient options for getting tested than ever before. At-Home Testing Kits offer the security of a testing center, while completely protecting your privacy. If you would like to get tested in private for STIs such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, or HIV, testing kits such as myLAB Box offer a reliable testing experience. Be alert to the latest news.

myLAB Box offers direct-to-consumer STD test packages for every lifestyle, discreet packaging and free shipping, easy five-minute tests, lab-certified results, and free physician treatment consultations for those with positive results. And unlike other at-home testing solutions, myLAB Box allows for extragenital testing (screening of the rectum and throat in addition to genital-only examination) and is also the first and only to offer fully nationwide free treatment support.

Click here to read the latest news.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/sago-mini-launches-worlds-first-pillow.html

That last bit is critical. It's an area where myLAB Box is ahead of many traditional testing clinics. Typical STD exams from a clinic will only check the genital area, but ignoring rectal and oral screening leaves a major portion of the population untested. Current public health guidelines dictate that doctors only recommend screening for the so-called "at-risk" population (gay men and HIV-positive individuals). And even then, the additional testing is only offered upon the admission of personal details or request.

And, Global Pet Expo's custom Snapchat filter was seen by more than 5,400 people.

Global Pet Expo also garnered national media attention from outlets eager to share the latest trends and products with their pet-owning audience. During Global Pet Expo, APPA released its annual pet industry spending figures- announcing a record-breaking $72.56 billion in pet spending for 2018, up from $69.51 billion in 2017. Estimated spending for this year is $75.38 billion; a 3.9 percent growth. Also released at the Show were initial findings from APPA's 2019-2020 National Pet Owners Survey. The Survey revealed that 67 percent of U.S. households own at least one pet; an estimated 84.9 million homes. Millennials represent the largest segment of pet owners for all pet types owned, especially bird owners, small animal owners, and saltwater fish owners. And for the first time, The Survey assessed members of the emerging Generation Z (Gen Z). The releases can be found in their entirety in the Association's press center at http://www.americanpetproducts.org.

"There has never been such an exciting time to be a part of this industry," said APPA CEO Steve King. "The continued success and impressive growth of Global Pet Expo and the entire pet industry further solidifies the importance pets play in our lives and that we truly value them as important members of our families." He added, "I have no doubt the 2020 Show will continue to inspire both newcomers to the industry as well as those of us who have been involved for many years.
