Visitors to Taiwan Reach 10 Million Earlier Than Expected This Year!

Under the cooperation of the travel industry and the government departments, the number of overseas visitors to Taiwan reached 10 million on Sunday night (Dec. 2). It's the fourth year in a row that the number of visitors to Taiwan has surpassed 10 million. This year, the goal was reached two weeks ahead of schedule. Under a competitive international tourism environment, Taiwan has been tapping into different tourism markets and diversifying its sources of tourists. According to government statistics, nearly 1 in four visitors came from the 18 countries covered by Taiwan's New Southbound Policy, which seeks to expand tourism and other links with countries in Southeast Asia, South Asia as well as Australia and New Zealand. The fastest growth came from tourists from the Philippines and Vietnam, which grew by more than 50% and 30% respectively compared to last year. Overall, the growth in tourists is strong and relied on the government to build a friendly tourism environment, and industry to actively improve the quality of tourism, so that Taiwan can really stabilize the number of visitors. This shows Taiwan's efforts to develop multi-source markets has achieved results.

The Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications pointed out that the top five source markets for Taiwanese tourists in the past four years include: mainland China, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, and the United States. Visitors from those markets accounted for more than 70% of the total number of visitors to Taiwan, of which the Japanese market is expected to exceed 2 million by the end of this year. Although the Korean market was affected by the Hualien earthquake in eastern Taiwan from January to October, it is expected to maintain the million-person scale this year. As the number of visitors from the 18 nations covered by the New Southbound Policy can exceed 2.5 million this year, all of these source markets added together will account for more than 95% of the total number of passengers coming to Taiwan.

Under the Tourism 2020 strategy, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications will market Taiwan's tourism resources under an annual theme. It will also create a friendlier environment and make efforts to develop diverse sources of international tourists by developing a multi-market approach and promoting experience-filled tourism and such sightseeing strategies. With the joint efforts of the tourism industry this year, the performance of all major source markets has been outstanding. The growth rate in Southeast Asian market has grown by nearly 20% and the growth rate in the long-haul markets of Canada and Europe have been maintained at 6~16%, proving that Taiwan's tourism resources are indeed able to attract different source markets. This also gives us more confidence to open up more potential markets and make the market structure more diverse.

We are looking forward to launching our tourism marketing to the world in 2019. In the face of fierce competition for tourists from neighboring countries, Taiwan's tourism will fully integrate with local industries in the hope of using Taiwan's various small towns to attract tourists to have an in-depth travel experience in local areas and experience the most local Taiwanese style.

$15,000 Available to Students in Spring Create Real Impact Safe Driving Contest

What would you say to prevent distracted driving and how would you say it? That's the challenge to students ages 14-22 as the Spring 2019 Create Real Impact Contest, presented by Impact Teen Drivers and California Casualty, kicks off.

Students can earn prizes and make a difference in the battle to stop unnecessary teen driving crashes, the number one killer of teens in the United States, at http://www.createrealimpact.com. The entry deadline is March 27. Continue reading.

The Spring 2019 Create Real Impact Contest will provide a total of $15,000 in educational grants for the best peer-to-peer messages showcasing solutions to reckless and distracted driving – with $1,500 grand prizes in the following categories:

There will also be awards for schools with the most entries and for the top online vote getters.

The Create Real Impact contest was initiated in 2009 as a proactive solution to the deadly epidemic of inattentive driving by teens. Research shows distraction is a key factor in almost 60 percent of crashes involving drivers ages 16 to 19. Empowering messages convincing other teens to adopt safer driving attitudes and avoid the tragic result of bad choices behind the wheel can save lives.

"I have confidence teens can change the culture of driving to one that is distraction free – much like earlier generations did with seat belts," said Kelly Browning, Ph.D., Executive Director, Impact Teen Drivers. "The Create Real Impact Contest provides an opportunity for teens to join the conversation and do something about the problem."

Students aged 14-22 can enter and find motivation from past winners at http://www.createrealimpact.com. The deadline for submissions is March 27.

Online voting will take place March 28 through April 5, with judges determining grand prize awards and notifying winners around April 8, in conjunction with National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Click here.

Survey: How Brands Use Social Media Giveaways

According to a new survey, "How Brands Use Social Media Giveaways Today", Facebook giveaways are the most popular type of contest on social media. 25.7% of respondents carry out giveaways exclusively on Facebook. However, a more common strategy is to run giveaways on both Facebook and Instagram: 45.5% of brands use both networks to organize contests.

In total, 92.6% of all survey respondents organize giveaways on Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg's social network continues to be the most popular choice for brands. Instagram is the second most popular social network for giveaways, used by 67.5% of survey respondents. However, only 6.1% of brands run giveaways exclusively on this network.

Twitter comes in third, used by 20.6% of brands. But most brands only run giveaways on Twitter in combination with other social networks. 13.5% of brands regularly organize giveaways on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Overall, 66.8% use more than one social network to run giveaways and promotions.

Simultaneous and combined giveaways
55.8% of brands run simultaneous giveaways on multiple social networks, mostly on Facebook and Instagram (43.1%). A further 10.9% run contests which combine followers from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. And 4.7% organize simultaneous giveaways for Facebook and Twitter. However, we should not overlook the 44.2% of survey respondents who never run simultaneous giveaways.

"55.8% of brands run simultaneous giveaways on multiple social networks"

At Easypromos, we have seen a new demand from giveaway organizers, often social media managers and marketing strategists. "Brand communities on social networks are not as divided as we think," says Carles Bonfill, CEO of Easypromos. "Social media giveaways started on Facebook, but now they are common on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. And community managers and social media managers have been very innovative in their efforts to join forces and treat these communities as one."

"The regular use of giveaways depends on the maturity of the brand's social media strategy, on the product or service which it sells, and its capacity to create and share incentives," says Bonfill. "Everyone loves prizes, and everyone is on social media. That creates an opportunity for brands to organize regular giveaways on social media, to have a lively and engaged community online."

That's one reason why the concept of the multi-network giveaway has become so popular, and why the leading platform for online giveaways and contests has created a new app to support brands which run giveaways across multiple social networks. When brands were asked for the main reasons why they run simultaneous giveaways (or plan to do so), the most common motivation was to satisfy all their online communities (41.6%). Making the giveaway easy to design and plan was also a strong incentive.

Frequency of giveaways
32.5% of brands organize one giveaway a month on average. Almost as many brands (28.6%) organize less than one giveaway a month, but run several contests throughout the year. Click here.

Main benefits of social media giveaways
Increasing followers is still one of the main motivations for organizing giveaways, although Facebook no longer permits contests based on likes. 64.8% of survey respondents list this as one of the greatest benefit of social media giveaways. The other most popular benefits are increasing brand visibility (62.2%) and increasing social media engagement (58.7%).

Half of the brands surveyed regularly invest in publicity for their giveaways. 33.9% will invest more than 50€ per giveaway. Another 16.9% will pay to promote every giveaway, but spend less. 35.2% of giveaway organizers only invest in publicity sometimes, while 14% will not pay to promote giveaways at all.
