Craig Patterson Launches Colorado History and Photography Book on Kickstarter

Colorado Monuments by Night has launched on crowdfunding site Kickstarter. With a buyin as low as $40, which includes bonus prints, Colorado Monuments by Night is the first book to combine Colorado history and nighttime photography, with the added bonus of including camera settings for every shot.

https://kck.st/2FxbSYp

Colorado Monuments by Night is written with a different attitude than previous history books. With over a hundred monument and marker locations included, the history behind the markers is written in clear, concise, footnoted text, revealing the story behind the marker. Although the marker text is included in the image captions, what really happened, and what you won't discover from the marker, are the highlight of the book.

Simultaneously reverent and irreverent, the short sections on each marker are easily read and understood, eliminating the stuffiness of typical history books. Maps are provided, along with GPS coordinates and directions for finding every marker, making it easy for anyone to find them, whether they use electronic means or not.

Of Craig's work, Thomas J. "Dr. Colorado" Noel, Professor of History at the University of Colorado Denver and Colorado State Historian, says: "He is spot on with his understanding of the need to tell history as it truly is, without sugarcoating the things we've done in our quest for grandeur, and without forgetting the smallest of contributions by people who have been completely forgotten. Craig's unique focus on seeing the monuments and markers at night provides a greater sense of the history of this magnificent place. It also underscores how tenuous our hold is on our own history, often forgetting the markers even exist."

You can back the project at the Kickstarter page, starting at $40 for one book, including five special prints: four from the book, and one reproduction of the only surviving image taken by Solomon Nunes Carvalho. Classroom packages are also available.

This New Media Company is Driving Change, One Free Video at a Time

Abhi Sambari is an entrepreneur who is determined to show how successful business and doing good can and should go hand in hand. About a year ago, he founded his new media company, The Change You Want To See. This company produces micro-documentaries for nonprofits and facilitates donations from viewers, all at no cost to the organizations. Each micro-doc is funded through partnerships with brands that are dedicated to the cause the featured nonprofit is tackling. The Change You Want To See is the crucial link between these two entities, and uses the promotional video produced as a means to get the nonprofit's message out to the public and elicit donations from its followers. The Change You Want To See converts the funding from the partnering brands into crucial engagement and exposure for the nonprofits that allows them to continue their pursuit for positive change. In the last one year, they have created 14 micro-documentaries about nonprofits tackling issues such as climate change, education, access to technology, workforce development, homelessness, disabilities, immigration and animal welfare.

At its core, The Change You Want To See is on a mission to provide a platform for the heroic yet often unnoticed work being done in our communities. They achieve this through their engaging and shareable videos which help their featured organizations receive the funding they need to continue that work.

Abhi is a former software engineer turned entrepreneur, with the founding of his last video production company, Vercel, already under his belt. Spreading his beliefs of conscious capitalism and profits with a purpose is central to Abhi's mission for The Change You Want To See. His experience in film production at Vercel has prepared him for the engaging storytelling that is central to The Change You Want To See. Filmmaker Dillon Magrann-Wells is the Chief Creative Officer at The Change You Want To See, and also serves as the director, editor, and lead animator for the micro-documentaries. He has experience in music video production and his personal projects have been recognized by the Austin Film Festival.

One organization that has already partnered with The Change You Want To See is human-I-T, a nonprofit based in Long Beach, CA committed to eliminating e-waste and shrinking the digital divide in Los Angeles and beyond. human-I-T identified these two problems and took it upon themselves to be the solution. Their service provides a means for companies and individuals to dispose of their unwanted or broken technology, which they then either safely recycle, or refurbish to then be redistributed into lower income communities to people, students, and families who don't have the technology they need to succeed.

To help promote this amazing work being done by human-I-T, The Change You Want To See has produced a micro-documentary about their work in conjunction with running a donation campaign with them leading up to #GivingTuesday - an annual, socially-driven global movement to connect donors with charities happening on November 27, 2018. The campaign went live on November 20, 2018.

Abhi's vision is to make The Change You Want To See a ubiquitous platform that is branded around social change. "We are passionate about social issues such as the climate, race, gender, LGBTQ rights, education and workforce development", he says. "We will consider ourselves successful at The Change You Want To See when we know that we contributed to meaningful change on each one of these issues, and more." Click here.

Community Action Partnership Of Lancaster Debuts New Website

The Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County (CAP) today unveiled a new website, with an updated platform, a clean, fresh design, and expanded content.

Read all the related news.:

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/keywordfirst-rebrands-as-true.html

According to Kristy Aurand, CAP's Chief Development Officer, CAP's former website was built on a platform that made it difficult to do in-house website edits and updates, which meant CAP was either spending money with a consultant or not making needed changes to web content. Aurand says the CAP team felt it was necessary to transition their site to WordPress to better share their story with the community with increased in-house ability to make content and design updates.

"One of CAP's core values is innovation, which means we often add new programs, services, or partnerships, and we will now be able to create a robust web presence that accurately portrays our organization," Aurand says. "The new site keeps all the great information our customers regularly access regarding available resources, while giving us the ability to share success stories, engage the community in supporting CAP and – most importantly – share the 'why' regarding the importance of our work."

To create its new website, CAP turned to Lancaster County's RODA marketing and worked directly with firm co-founder Matthew Roda. Aurand says RODA was by CAP's side every step of the way, from initial concept design to content creation.

"Not only does Matt know what makes a good website, he also understood from the very beginning how important storytelling is to us," Aurand says. "He was also our biggest cheerleader, sending reminders to keep us on track and advice on how to make the process less overwhelming."

"Community Action Partnership contacted us to make their website mobile friendly and to bring life into the website with bigger images, videos, etc. We collaborated with their team throughout the process and really enjoyed helping them bring their vision to fruition. Our goal was to make the community of Lancaster more aware of all the wonderful things CAP does and their new website will definitely do that for them" – Matt Roda, Owner of RODA marketing.

CAP is Lancaster County's largest anti-poverty organization, helping low-income families move toward a life free from poverty's barriers. CAP's service profile interrupts inter-generational poverty with programs that support families and individuals at every age and place in life, in the areas of education and child development, health and nutrition, household stability and safety and empowerment. CAP serves more than 42,000 people per year through legacy programs like WIC and Head Start and innovative resources like Navigation (high-touch, person-centered goal planning and support) and CAPital Workforce (on-the-job training in the construction trade for individuals with barriers to employment). CAP also leads Empower Lancaster, a social services database with a universal intake assessment currently being shared by more than 40 county non-profits.
