Guadalupe Clinic is Partnering with Local Insurance Business, Rutledge Agency, to Keep Wichitans Healthy

The Rutledge Agency's initiative was a valuable contribution to Guadalupe Clinic, which has provided quality healthcare to the uninsured in Wichita and surrounding areas for more than thirty years and is supported by the generosity and good will from donors of time, talent, and treasure who make this mission possible. An estimated 70,000 people in the community lack health care coverage today. Guadalupe Clinic is dedicated to serving those families. The organization believes no one should have to choose between feeding their family or seeing the doctor. Thanks to partners like the Rutledge Allstate Agency, community members were asked if they'd like a policy review in exchange for a $20 donation to the Clinic. A $5-dollar contribution is always asked of patients as well, however no one is turned away if they are unable to donate.

Cover is King, Not Cash When it Comes to Holidays

As a new survey reveals that 63 percent of Brits worry most about not having enough cash to spend on holiday, travel tech specialist Aquarium Software argues many more should be concerned instead about not having any travel insurance. The survey from First Direct suggests cash is very much still king when it comes to traveller priorities but as 6.5 million Brits jet off for the school holidays, no one in the survey expressed any thoughts on the one thing that could solve many of these money worries – comprehensive travel insurance.

Research by Aviva found 26 million of us do not purchase insurance at the same time we book our holiday, while a staggering 23 per cent don't buy travel insurance at all. Aquarium is using its cutting-edge software and Smartphone apps to help insurers bridge the gap and encourage more people to invest in cover.

"Survey after survey shows money worries prey on our minds, but holiday is not the time to cut insurance corners," said Aquarium Software Director, Mark Colonnese. "65 percent fear cards being stolen and two thirds fear losing cash abroad. Insurance never makes these lists, yet comprehensive cover could cap all the worry and we could all spend more time relaxing and enjoying the most important two weeks of the year," added Mark.

"Brits spend £4,792 on the average family holiday and having spent all this money, surely protecting such an investment makes complete sense," added Colonnese. "With family insurance available for as little as £50, it remains a puzzle why more of us are not covered. The risk of health problems; cancellations; crime; losing pounds and possessions; plus, the cost (emotional and financial) of resolution and replacement, makes insurance a no brainer. Apps can help educate people about the importance of travel insurance, by putting the facts in the palm of their hand. Tech also enables providers to bring exciting new products to market faster than ever. Cash may still be king, but overseas, insurance cover should be prioritised," concluded Mark.

The New End of Life Doula Profession Merges with Health Care in Historic NYC Event and Announces The National Professional End of Life Doula Certification (NPEC)

Hosted by Professional Doula International – a collaboration between Patty Burgess of Teaching Transitions/Doing Death Differently, Deanna Cochran RN of Quality of Life Care, and Suzanne O'Brien RN of The International Doulagivers Institute. This is an event especially for hospice, palliative care, comfort care, senior care and end-of-life doulas (or those who want to be!) to learn how to work within healthcare organizations who are beginning to embrace the utilization of doulas in their agencies. This weekend event will offer the NPEC Certification (National Professional End-of-Life Doula Certification) which is a specific healthcare focus, and it offers nursing CEs. The time has come for palliative and EOL doulas to take their rightful place alongside, and supporting mainstream healthcare.

The "silver tsunami" in healthcare is upon us. The number of patients aging and needing palliative and end-of-life care is increasing at an alarming rate. Hospices are the only option for end-of-life care in this country other than personal caregivers. There are huge time and service limitations for hospices to serve this need.

Doulas are the bridge between the patient/family and healthcare agencies. EOL Doulas can serve in capacities that agencies cannot staff for at this time.

NATIONAL INITIATIVES ARE NOW IN PLACE:
The newly formed NHPCO End of Life Doula Council and The National End of Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) have been created to establish this new progressive profession and also set the highest level of standards and scope of practice.

This training, led by US EOL doula trainers is designed to offer the highest level, and most relevant, current best practices for this doula role. You can use the 'NPEC' designation upon the successful completion of your NPEC Certification Weekend. More info here.
