Franklin County Visitors Bureau Remembers 1864: The Burning, Ransoming & Rebirth of Chambersburg

Franklin County Visitors Bureau remembers the 1864 burning, ransoming and rebirth of Chambersburg ahead of the annual re-enactment event on July 21 from 6pm to 10pm in downtown Chambersburg.

On July 28, 1864, General John McCausland with the Confederate troops received Jubal Early's order to hold Chambersburg ransom for $100,000 in gold or $500,000 in Yankee dollars, and if the ransom was not met, to burn Chambersburg. The July 26 order, also directed to General Bradley Johnson to join McCausland in the raid. McCausland would use the same route as J.E.B. Stuart when he raided the southern border of Pennsylvania in 1862, crossing at McCoy's Ferry Ford and moving northward into Mercersburg, raiding and taking supplies, and then to Chambers¬burg on July 29.

The people of Chambersburg could not meet the demands and the soldiers burned the town. Many took shelter in the cemeteries and fields around the town to avoid the burning blaze. The destruction began at about eight o'clock in the morning and by elven o'clock, the Confederates had left, but ten squares of buildings were burned to the ground and two thousand people were made homeless and many, penniless. The value of real estate and personal property lost exceeded $1.5 million. Several structures did not burn including the Old Jail, Mary Ritner Boarding House/John Brown House and the Masonic Lodge on Second Street.

Despite the hardships and massive loss, the citizens of Chambersburg began plans to rebuild one month after the fire consumed their town. Among these plans were widening Main Street, planting trees and the creation of popular spots for residents to gather. On Saturday, July 20, 1878, through work of the ladies group and veteran's organizations, 10,000 residents and visitors gathered in the diamond to see the unveiling of the 26-foot tall, five basin cast iron bronzed Memorial Fountain with the 7-foot tall soldier. It was a day to celebrate Chambersburg coming to life from the ashes. To this day, the fountain and statue remain a strong symbol of the resilience of the people of Chambersburg.

In celebration for the rebirth of the town after such hardships, Franklin County Visitors Bureau holds their annual 1864: Burning event! This includes a living history re-enactment and light show, presentation by Ted Alexander, music competition, Civil War walking history tours, book signings, art auction and more from 6pm to 10pm on July 21! Pet Med Company Celebrates Top Honor from TopConsumerReviews.com

TopConsumerReviews.com recently awarded their best-in-class 5 star rating to Pet Care RX, a leader among online sellers of Pet Meds.

https://jessicapressreleases.blogspot.com/2018/05/intouch-insight-launches-liacx-new_7.html

When someone needs to fill a prescription, their first thought is usually a local pharmacy. But what about when it comes to pets? While it is true that some prescriptions for dogs and cats are available at big-name pharmacies, most people go the easy route and fill the prescription with their veterinarian. However that convenience comes at a price, literally, as costs can be twice as high when buying directly from the vet's office. For the lowest prices on the exact same prescriptions, many pet owners buy their Pet Meds online, from a surprising array of trusted, established companies who usually offer extras like food, toys, and grooming supplies as well.

"To save money on your pet's meds, we strongly recommend shopping at Pet Care RX," stated Brian Dolezal of TopConsumerReviews.com, LLC. "Every prescription medication they sell is EPA- and FDA-approved, from the same manufacturers you find for sale at your local veterinarian's office, and usually at a significant discount. To save even more money, you can take advantage of Pet Care RX's loyalty rewards program. And, if you'd like to add on some treats or toys to help the medicine go down a little more easily for your favorite furry friend, this store has you covered. With low prices on all of the meds your pet could need, and an excellent track record for fast deliveries and quality customer service, Pet Care RX is the best choice for buying Pet Meds online. We're happy to give them our highest rating in 2018."

Lovevery Introduces The Play Kits, a System of Science-based Products and Guidance for Babies

Today, Lovevery introduces The Play Kits, a subscription program of science-based, non-toxic products and guidance for baby's first year. Applying the same design philosophy and aesthetic that earned the brand a Red Dot Award earlier this year for The Play Gym, their goal is to give parents the right products and information, grounded in child development science, and delivered at just the right time.

PLAYTIME WITH PURPOSE

"Our goal with The Play Kits is to take one thing off your plate: researching and figuring out which toys and activities your baby is excited for right now," said Lovevery Cofounder and CEO Jessica Rolph. "Our mission is to give parents the right products and the right information, at just the right time. We want parents to feel confident they are giving their children the best start in life." Before cofounding Lovevery, Ms. Rolph helped grow Happy Family into the #1 organic baby food company in the US, leading to a successful acquisition by Groupe Danone.

The Play Kits offer an entirely new approach to toys and early childhood—one that helps parents feel connected and tuned into what their babies are experiencing in the moment. Parents subscribe to The Play Kits on loveverybaby.com at any time during their baby's first year and receive a box every other month containing just the right playthings at just the right time. All 6 Play Kits were devised by child development experts and tested with families all over the United States to make certain that everything inside is of interest to the baby and of service to the parent.

"Lovevery is serious about making early childhood cognitive development a mass market movement, and they are making baby brain development approachable for parents by taking a fresh approach," said Lovevery advisory board member and human neuroscience professor Dr. Gillian Starkey.

Each product in the kits is thoughtfully crafted using organic cotton, sustainably forested wood, and baby-safe materials. The Play Kits will retail exclusively on loveverybaby.com for $36 per month ($80 per 2-month Play Kit with shipping included, discounted to $72 if prepaid). Each Play Kit comes with a Play Guide full of ideas for how to play that are relevant for the development stage and backed by all the research parents often don't have time to read.

"Before I became an advisor to the company, I got feedback on these remarkable products from my most important advisor - my baby daughter," said Lovevery advisory board member and Bank Street College of Education President, Shael Polakow-Suransky. "Lovevery has done a remarkable job distilling a large amount of child development research into a set of engaging toys and activities that stimulate both learning and powerful interactions."

DIFFERENTIATED COMPANY, HIGH DEMAND

Since launching its debut product in November 2017, Lovevery has generated millions of dollars in sales and averaged double-digit revenue growth month-over-month. The company recently closed a round of funding to support future growth that included participation from Collab+Sesame, Founder Collective, Yes VC, Reach Capital, Maveron, and notable women-focused investors SoGal Ventures, The FEMPIRE, and #Angels members Chloe Sladden and Jana Messerschmidt.

"The rate at which Lovevery has grown since launching just eight months ago shows that we are satisfying a need in the early childhood market for better, science-backed products and information that inspire rather than overwhelm," said Lovevery Cofounder and President Roderick Morris. "Delivering The Play Kits to our customer base is an important step in our vision to create a transformative early learning company."

ABOUT LOVEVERY

Founded by Jessica Rolph and Roderick Morris, Lovevery was started to help parents feel confident they are giving their baby the best resources they can. Lovevery play products are designed by child development experts and distilled to their simplest, purest purpose: to be exactly what children need at every stage. Taking a science-based approach, Lovevery products have won awards from Red Dot, Parents' Choice, and NAPPA. For more information, visit loveverybaby.com.
