International PechaKucha Day Brings The World Together on Feb. 20

PechaKucha (PK; pron: Peh-cha Koo-cha, ペ-チャ-ク-チャ) invites global citizens around the world to participate in its inaugural International PechaKucha Day, a day when thousands of participants will join in storytelling events across the globe on February 20. Participants will create PK presentations or watch one -- around the world from Tokyo to Geneva to Orlando, and more.

A PK presentation is simple: '20 images X 20 seconds-of-talk-per-image' format. #ipk2020 is one day only, with hundreds of global events producing thousands of 400-second presentations.

"International PechaKucha Day 2020 is garnering buzz -- from a variety of public events, school, and business events. It's exciting and unprecedented to have so many global participants during one 24-hour period of time," says Sean Smyth, CEO, and Co-Founder of PechaKucha. "We see first hand how PechaKucha is becoming a fan-favorite 'show and tell' presentation platform."

Since its inception in 2003 in Tokyo by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, PechaKucha's community has grown tremendously. In 2019 alone, more than 50,000 people attended over 1,200 PK Nights in cities across 137 countries, watching thousands of presentations. Over 100,000 people use the pechakucha.com website and app every month to post their own PK presentation or watch 16,000+ previously-recorded PKs.

Tokyo, PechaKucha's headquartered city, will be home to various #ipk2020 celebrations, including an internal office PK presentation at HQ, a lunchtime working session at a school to teach kids how to create and give a PechaKucha, an afternoon public and community workshop on PK, and a nighttime public PechaKucha Night event -- Tokyo Vol. 169 at Core Kitchen Space.
