The Photo Arts Conservatory at New York Film Academy is a community of global visual storytellers, with students and faculty from around the world. The Photo Arts Conservatory (PAC) was established at the prestigious New York Film Academy (NYFA) and has built a reputation as both a fine art and commercially-focused photography college which prioritizes both intersectional diversity and the highest standards of photographic practices.
New York Film Academy has a long history of educating through hands-on, technical learning. "The Photo Arts Conservatory fuses this approach with passionate, political and conceptual programming," says Los Angeles Co-Chair Kean O'Brien. "The conservatory thrives in its constant engagement with a multitude of perspectives and aesthetic practices, mining its diverse understandings of cultural identity, beauty, and symbolism in the collective pursuit of artmaking."
In Fall 2019, the Photo Arts Conservatory will roll out its newly revamped MFA and BFA programs in Los Angeles, focusing on impactful theoretical concepts, in addition to lighting, imaging, printing, and business courses. Classes include Deconstructing the Body: Exploring the New Beautiful in Fashion; Photography and Social Media: Breaking through the Gram; Domesticated: Humanity's Complex Relationship to Nature; From Concept to Creation: How Advertising Images are Made. "Filling this niche between theory and technical skill is rare and an exciting and welcome new type of art school," says LA Co-Chair Naomi White.

These updated degree programs join NYFA's wider slate of photography curricula, including 4-Week Fashion Photography workshops for both experienced photogs and those brand new to the medium, a 1-Week Digital Photography workshop offered at our location in Florence, Italy, and the newly-available 2-Year Photography program at our New York City campus (this program is already available at the LA campus).
PAC doesn't explore the photography world from the outside looking in; rather, the institution endeavors to be a part of a living, breathing art form. This year, PAC will be exhibiting at Photo LA and Photoville NYC with work from their award-winning photography students, alum and faculty, sharing copies of PAC's fashion and fine art magazine FAYN and organizing discussions and workshops in the programming section of Focus LA.
