H Code Partners With The Panamanian International Film Festival In Los Angeles To Spotlight Empowering, Diverse Voices

The rise of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements have exposed cases of sexual abuse within workplaces in the fields of government, entertainment, sports, and various other industries. Child sexual abuse has been missing from the conversation, which is surprising. The prevalence and effects of sexual abuse are devastating.

Considering that one out of every ten children experiences sexual abuse by the age of 18 and there are over 42 million survivors of sexual abuse in the United States, the #metoo movement is only the beginning. Statistics tell us that women who have experienced abuse are prone to re-experience abuse again later and adopt harmful beliefs about sexuality, leaving them vulnerable to revictimization.

Karla's journey started as a Salvadoran immigrant, and she built up two decades of experience in community and economic development before leaving her career in city government to truly walk in her purpose. Her personal experience of healing from her own sexual abuse, both as a child and in the workplace, prepared her for her career as an author and keynote speaker, with a passion to reach women who have experienced abuse.
