Pfluger's Doghouse Wins Best of Show at Austin Barkitecture Event

Pfluger Architects' Kelsey Snider and her team developed the Best of Show winner for the 2018 Austin Barkitecture, hosted by Animal Lovers of Austin, Inc. This year's event benefits PALS, Emancipet, and Bastrop Animal Rescue. The Benny House was designed for its namesake, Benny, a BAR rescue dog fostered by Snider.

The house boasts a large-scale layout with a modern chic vibe that would accommodate any size dog. The house has a quartz floor and solar-powered fan for those hot Texas days and was designed for easy cleanup by simply hosing the whole thing down.

For the second year in a row, Pfluger has participated in Austin's Barkitecture event. Pfluger's team designed and built this year's house in partnership with Wilsonart and UShip Gives.

Barkitecture events across the country raise money for local animal welfare organizations. Companies and organizations build luxury doghouses that are auctioned off to the highest bidder. All proceeds from these sales go straight to animals in need. This year, Benny was one of the lucky dogs chosen as a beneficiary of Austin's event.

U.S. Toy Industry Sales Grow 2 Percent Leading Into the Holiday Season, Reports The NPD Group

The U.S. Toy industry grew its dollar sales by $264 million to $11.6 billion, a 2 percent increase over the same period last year, according to global information company The NPD Group.*

"The 2 percent gain was lower than the 4 percent increase experienced over the same time period in 2017, but this year's slow growth shouldn't be dismissed," said Juli Lennett, senior vice president and industry advisor, Toys, The NPD Group. "With all the change the toy industry has endured over the past year, growth is a welcome surprise and speaks to the tenacity of the toy industry."

Six of the 11 supercategories tracked by NPD posted gains, with Youth Electronics growing the fastest at 24 percent.

In terms of top-performing supercategories based on absolute dollar growth, Dolls had the strongest growth, increasing $168 million, a 12 percent increase over last year, followed by Action Figures & Accessories, Youth Electronics, Arts & Crafts, Vehicles, and Infant/Toddler/Preschool Toys.

Though it declined 1 percent to $2.6 billion, Outdoor & Sports Toys was the largest supercategory in terms of dollar sales. Plush, Games/Puzzles, Building Sets, and All Other Toys posted flat to modest declines.

The top-performing properties based on total dollar sales include Marvel Universe, L.O.L. Surprise!, Nerf, Barbie, and Star Wars. The property that experienced the most dollar growth was L.O.L. Surprise! followed by Jurassic World and Marvel Universe, whose toy sales were propelled by the theatrical releases of Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. The 100 kHz test frequency is one of the added features that sets the device apart from similar tweezer-multimeter devices. This feature allows for 0.01 pF resolution while testing capacitance and less than 1 nH resolution for inductance.

The MP offers a Large Cap mode by having a wider range of test frequencies (25, 100, 120 Hz, 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 and 100 kHz) as well as DC measurements. The Large Cap mode measure large and super capacitances up to 680 mF. The device will automatically reduce the test frequency to 25 Hertz when using this mode for higher accuracy. LCR-Reader-MP is twice the weight of previous models, at 2 oz. and uses a jog-wheel navigation instead of the joystick control on Smart Tweezers.
