Stream, the leading provider of activity and news feed technology, today announces the release of its second product, Chat by Stream, an API for adding messaging to your application. https://getstream.io/chat/
Stream's activity feed technology powers the feeds for over 500 million end users. Brands such as NBC Sports, Product Hunt, Dubsmash, Powerschool and Bandsintown rely on Stream's products. Built upon the same foundational structure as Stream's feed technology, Stream Chat leverages Go, RocksDB and Raft to provide an enterprise grade chat and messaging solution. Chat by Stream provides front end development components, greatly reducing the time to market to add messaging to an application. Stream chat also features a beautiful UI kit for 5 out of the box use case configurations:
Social Messenger
Team
Commerce
Livestream
Gaming
Chat by Stream also comes out of the box with advanced features like muting/banning users, slash commands, rich URL preview and embedded videos/images, threaded conversations, built in customizable reactions, advanced AI moderation, search and many more.
"I believe the future of cloud computing is serverless combined with APIs to power various components of apps," said Thierry Schellenbach, CEO and Co-Founder of Stream. "One of our customers leveraged serverless plus Stream's APIs to build a Facebook competitor in days; it's incredible to see how fast teams can move with this technology."
Originally founded in Amsterdam, Stream participated in the Techstars accelerator 4 years ago and is now headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. The company discussed the benefits of their dual country setup. "Having a presence in both Amsterdam and Boulder allows us to offer round the clock support to our customers. The ability to attract top quality engineering talent in Amsterdam is also amazing, making this a perfect arrangement for a cloud computing startup like Stream," said Tommaso Barbugli, CTO and Co-Founder of Stream. Be alert to the latest news.
Chat by Stream is positioned to have explosive growth in applications around the world. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, said in a post on his Facebook profile that within a few years direct messaging would dwarf discussion on the traditional, open platform of Facebook's news feed, where public posts can go viral across the world.
Chat by Stream is currently in beta. The product is still in its early days, though many customers are choosing Stream over older providers in the market. The ability to have a single provider of both feed and chat technology, which shares user profiles and provides consistent, easy to use APIs has been a huge advantage. The dozen plus companies that participated in the closed beta all appreciated the pricing transparency and real time support they received directly from the Stream development team during testing.
