Washington Realtor Lesleigh Jacobs Touts the Merits of Selling in Winter

Spring and summer are widely considered to be the best times of year to sell a house. "However, selling your house in winter has some distinct advantages," said Jacobs. Read all the related news.

To educate homeowners about selling in the winter, Jacobs, who has a 30-day maximum exposure marketing plan, dispels the following four myths.

Myth No. 1: It's too late in the season to sell. "This couldn't be further from the truth," stressed Jacobs. "The truth of the matter is that a plethora of serious buyers are in the market during this time of year. These include people that have been transferred due to their jobs and those that have just sold or closed on their home."

Myth No. 2: There are no buyers in the winter. Actually, buyers are out in droves. "When Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices puts its homes on the market in the winter, we actually get ahead of the flood of homes that will come onto the market in the spring," added Jacobs.

Myth No. 3: People can't enjoy their holiday guests if their home is for sale. False, as there are simple ways to ensure one's holidays are uninterrupted. "Have your Realtor put a 'No showings during ...' notice in the local Multiple Listing, which will notify Realtors that you are not showing the home on certain days," noted Jacobs. "You can also take your key box off and put a 'Showing by appointment only' sign attached to the bottom of your sign. When your guests leave, activate your listing again."

Myth No. 4: Realtors are not working in the winter. "I personally work right through the holidays because I know there is plenty of business during this time of year. But this year I'm taking the holiday off but working the rest of the season," concluded Jacobs. "It is imperative that you find a Realtor who is willing to work during this time of year, but still takes the time to enjoy the holidays."
