As most pet parents know, our pets are generally notorious for getting into just about everything and eating anything they deem as food. Pet parents should also know how important it is to keep anything poisonous or harmful, such as prescription medication, out of their pets' reach. The best way to keep your pets safe is to store all medication safely away from pets and children, and to remove all unused or expired medication from the home as quickly as possible.
The most effective and safe method of disposing of expired or unwanted prescription medication is to take them to a drug take-back collection site. However, if a collection site is not nearby, the following link provides an alternate suggestion.
"The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications," says the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Diversion Control Division.
National Prescription Take Back Day takes place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 27, 2018. If you wish to safely dispose of any unused or expired prescription medications, use the DEA's collection site locator to find a collection site near you. For more information or to find out where year-round collection sites are located, visit the DEA's website.
